Super Mario New Super Mario Bros. Wii

I have a feeling that others will be playable....like Peach.

If they made her one of the playable characters, it would be pretty awesome.

Hopefully Pandamar will be right, and they give us some variety.

I really like the fact that they're bringing SMB into the fold, but what is up with these multi-colored Toads? They're uber lame. I'm hoping there are more characters to choose from than that. Yoshi, Peach, anyone. Please!

well, peach is probably kidnapped and yoshi is playable...as a power-up.

i was thinking about this today. this must be the title nintendo told the gamestop stores to make room for around the holidays.

Yeah, I hope those Toads are just people choosing the same dude. If it's a bunch of them, those fools have to go.

Why Toads? I mean, they could easily get in ther Wario and Waluigi.

Toad was playable in Super Mario Bros. 2. I think they should have just kept it to one Toad and have Toadette as a playable character. Hell they can even have Professor E. Gadd, Toadsworth, Daisy, Peach, the Paper Mario characters, Donkey Kong, whatever.

But Wario and Waluigi shouldn't be playable IMO. They're like the anti-Mario and Luigi when you're playing the good guys.

yeah, i'm pretty sure blue and yellow toad are just characters #3 & #4. they just wanted to keep it basic.

Well, how about this.

Are games too hard for you, Johnny? Don't worry -- Shiggy's got your back. Starting with upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Wii, future Nintendo Wii titles will be shipping with the ability to, well, play themselves. In an interview with USA Today, the man who birthed Mario confirmed the existence of "demo play" for the next Mario game and "future games, too" -- essentially an option to allow the game to play itself when the player encounters an area too difficult for them to handle.

Savvy Joystiq loyalists will remember the patent filed by Nintendo earlier this year, roughly outlining the feature. The idea behind this, Miyamoto explains, is to reduce the barrier to entry for younger players and casual alike. Last we checked, the whole point of games was the challenge but, ya know, who needs that? "Demo play" remains the tentative title for now, but we expect some Wii-ification by New Super Mario Bros. Wii's release later this year.

I know those of us who don't want to use demo play have the option to not, but still, I mean, just, still

Eh. It'll save a few 5 year olds the trouble of giving the controller to their older brother to pass a level for them.

True, but I mean, well I don't know. Just doesn't seem...right. Like a sacred code as been defiled. I don't know

I don't have a problem with it at all. When I was a little kid, I owned a Game Genie for my NES and Genesis. My step-brother owned a super-thick codebook. In a world where you can play games in God Mode and skip levels, is setting your player to CPU control really all that bad?

I mean if you're going to do all that stuff, why even bother playing games? I mean if people want to do it whatever, but it feels, to me, like it'll totally devoid the entertainment factor of the title, but hey, that's just me

I use cheats all the time. Especially money cheats. If there's one thing I can't stand, it's not having enough money to buy essential things in games. When I play RPGs, I run around in circles to fight as many enemies as possible JUST so I'll have a surplus of money.

the 'play itself' feature doesn't bother me.

I wouldn't go as far as to say I'm bothered by it or anything, it's just hard for me to grasp that anyone would really want it. I guess young kids, but I also wanted to beat the games myself when I that age, I always thought that was part of the of fun.

maybe not mario titles, but there's been a time or two when harder games (like zelda) have had me wanting a feature like this.

I imagine the self-playing feature will skip over all the secret stuff you can find in levels, so kids should still have a incentive for playing the levels themselves.

yeah, surely the demo will only give you the bare bones of the game. that's the trade-off.

On that note, I'd like to see a Ninja Gaiden game with demo play. You know, just to see if it's at all possible to get through the game without dieing.

I'm going to ignore that feature and just say that I'm really excited for this game. I loved the DS version and I love super Mario Bros. games. I'm sure this one will be great.

I can't get over how incredibly lame it is to have a couple of Toads as players 3 & 4.

Back in my day, there was only one Toad. His name was Toad. Times were simpler, back then.

That demo play is a great idea, as it saves Nintendo from watering their games down for the seasoned gamers, while giving an in for their new expanded audience. This can only be good for us in the long run. Also, the catch is that if you use Demo Play, you can't save your game, so they still have to go back and beat it themselves once they see how the computer does it.

Also, Peach had better be playable (as I'm sure there will be more players than Toad) so that I can have four of us inact SMB2 the way it was meant to be.
