The Dark Knight New TDK Snippet from Empire Magazine

$300 million in the US?! Wow, that's kind of optimistic considering BEGINS' intake.

Estimated 300m domestically?..

Ehh...I'm thinking a little bit lower.

300mil is pretty optimistic, but you have to remember Warner Bros did little to no advertising for BB. Enough people gave it a chance on DVD to know it isn't cheesy and lame like the last two(Schumacher's). Not to mention it's the Joker on the big screen again.

Great job as always, ActuallyRobin.

Isn't that a bit too optimistic? I thought $250 million was already pushing it but this sounds downright utopistic. Of course I'm not an expert when it comes to the US box office so maybe TDK has even more great things going for it than I realize.

That does seem rather high. BB made 205 million domestic, 166 international for a 371 million total and had the same 150 million budget.

Perhaps they're counting on that high of a gross because they're putting a lot more $$ into advertising this one after a proven success?

No. TDK will pwnz.

Thanks ActuallyRobin. :yay:

I love these little, juicy tidbits. I just hope they keep Two-Face completely under wraps until the movie. It would be awesome for all us spoiler freaks to have to wait and see it first in the theater with everyone else.

I think DVD has that effect sometimes. It sure seemed to work that way for the Bourne movies. People who stayed home for the first one saw it on DVD and were more likely to throw down the money at the cinema for the sequels.

...same with the Pirates movies, also, I think. And wasn't each Spider-Man movie more financially successful than the last?

Begins had legs. The opening wasn't huge by event movie standards, but it held on for a long time as word got around.

I'm a non-UK person and I haven't read this, so thanks a lot, limey.

As much as I'd like a shot of Two Face, I'm glad we haven't gotten anything on that front. I hope they manage to keep it under wraps until July.

I couldn't agree more! :yay:

"It's pretty common knowledge that Two-Face is a character that starts out as a guy called Harvey Dent," says producer Charles Roven. "At the end of Batman Begins, the DA ws killed, and so in the time between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, they elected a new DA.

So I guess TDK definitely doesn't start immediately after BEGINS. How much time does it take to elect a new DA, I wonder.

The ARG hints that Harvey will be made DA somehow between now and July. Right now the acting DA is Roger Garcetti, and Harvey is an ADA like Rachel was.

Going by the ARG (especially The Gotham Times articles), if I were to put a month to where BB ended in our timeline, it would be August/September 2007. Batman had been spotted 23 times when the first issue of the newspaper came out at the end of November. Since it's a given that Batman doesn't go out every night (Bruce needs to play up that party boy image sometimes), I think that's a plausible time period.

Oh, alright then. That all makes sense to me.

I'd guess two to three months. You'd have a filing period, probably a registration period, a primary election, maybe a runoff primary, and then the general election.

For some reason, these two posts made me feel stupid.

Great read so thank you. I ignored to read this one and glad I found it.

Are you serious? Every single person who has seen IAL that I know, whenever I ask if they saw TDK trailer, they all say it looks really good and are going to see it. Trust me, TDK is going to be huge. AT LEAST 300mil in the US, easy. I'm not being one of those guys who hears someone say, "oh yeah, looks cool" and blows it up into "omg itz teh best thing evah1," and I've seriously overheard people talking and someone brought up IAL on its opening weekend. First response was TDK trailer and that was the conversation; TDK is going to be massive. It won't compare to Begins at all. Quote me.
