I think that $80M number may be in Australia dollars, only the Australia budget amount (not including Japan) and after the tax rebate that was given. That was the impression I got and I don't think that's the real number.

This movie would probably get a total of at least $120 million. Filming in Japan is very expensive.

yes, i think is true! It will probably top the 120 million. You know... i think it could be a great movie to show his costume, probably the brown one with the cowl sides smaller and closer to the head. That would be perfect. I mean, not in the entire movie, but its in japan, and with all the masks and the japanese culture , i think a mix of wolverine mask with those japanese/samurai masks in a scene or two (a cultural event perhaps), that sounds great! Besides that, they can actually go for a real way of showing his costume without fallen into the ridiculous (like avengers...althought that cap's cowl.....)

What if Silver Samurai cousin, Sunfire get cast? Cool

By the way, it would be cool if by the end, mariko dies before tell Wolverine that they have a son, Daken (i know its from another woman in the comic, still...), to welcome next wolverine movie (where he looks his father for revenge) That would be sooooooo cooooll What do you think?

It might not be a bad idea at all. But perhaps better if Wolverine did know he had a son?

F*** no to Daken
hopefully she'll die just after she finds out she's pregnant...
that way its a nice little nod to his child, while also keeping daken away from ever appearing on film

Fox should release a teaser poster to get the hype ball rolling. The fact that they were SO quiet is what ended up hurting First Class.

One of the sets for Hugh Jackman's next Wolverine flick is already under construction at Kurnell.

Neighbouring residents were notified by the production company, 20th Century Fox, that Bonna Point Reserve would be temporarily occupied to make way for a World War II prisoner of war camp set (pictured under construction). Scenes for the film will be shot in two days between Monday, July 30 and Thursday, August 2.

I still dont get what a WWII POW camp has to do with a Japan-centric Wolverine movie? I just pray that they dont expand it too much. That was what killed XOW.

And the Marvelites over at CBM have already started going all ape**** over an Captain America cameo. *headmeetsdesk*

Moviehole with Hugh Jackman in Sydney for The Wolverine launch

Producers of “The Wolverine” are still keeping quiet on who will play Viper when filming starts next week, but reports Jessica Biel pulled out of the part are false – only because she was never in to start with!

“From all the reports I’ve been seeing about Jessica Biel, they’re completely false,” James Mangold said this morning. “She was one of many actresses we were speaking to but no decisions had been made and nobody was definitely in or out.”

But he stopped short of confirming the rumours “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” actress Svetlana Khodchenkova would fill the role – “We’re not confirming anything today!”

Our Moviehole reporter Hugh Humphreys hung out with Mangold on the set of “The Wolverine” in Sydney this morning; along with Hugh Jackman and Australia’s Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

As you can see from the pictures the set on this sound stage is only just being built to keep it a secret – there’s even remnants from “The Great Gatsby” still on the ground in one of the photos!

Hugh Jackman says he’s very happy to be home and filming a movie of this magnitude in Australia, especially seeing it’ll give Aussie crew a chance to get some great work close to home.

“We always punch above our weight, we Australians. Actors, directors, lighting, costume, set designers are all held in very high esteem around the world, and having an international film like “The Wolverine” here means we can train the next generation of filmmakers.”

Talking about the character of Wolverine itself, which Hugh will be playing for the 6th time (if you count the cameo in “X-Men: First Class”!):

“I was lucky enough to start the character 12 yars ago from a comic that started 50 or 60 years ago, and there was a massive following for the character. He’s really been the backbone of my career and I love Wolverine.

At the time of the first movie I really had no choice but to take anything that came along, but I’ve been lucky enough to walk into a character that’s the most interesting and complex of superhero characters, and I’ve always loved playing it.”

On keeping the Wolverine franchise going:

“I’m sure the franchise will live long beyond me. I do them one at a time and see how I go. When I saw the script and when Jim [Magnold] got on board – I feel like a golfer looking for a hole in one – I thought it was the best script and we had the chance to really make a definitive movie”.

And Hugh laughed about getting his Wolverine body back after trimming down for “Les Miserables”:

“It’s not easy. And by the way, it gets harder every year! That was a particular challenge, because at the start of filming I was 83kgs and had to finish up 97kgs. We did have a family holiday recently, but it felt more like boot camp for me!”

The Australian Government splashed out $12.8 million dollars to convince producers to make “The Wolverine” in Sydney’s Fox Studios, and it’ll create 2000+ local jobs.

There were even jokes about Prime Minister Julia Gillard being offered a role – Hugh said “It’s not a traditional role, she could be my stunt double! She is incredible. If you know of her martial arts background; the movie is set in Japan and she really is very handy with a sword and with a nunchuck!”

Filming starts next week, ahead of a slated 2013 release date.

I really want Eva Green to play Viper. :o

Love Hugh rocking the Wolvie chops. Glad he went back to the traditional ones from the first three.

It seemed he had a slight mustache in XMO: Wolverine. But I'm thinking that's because he was also shooting Australia around the same time right?

Probably easier on him since he had to have a full beard in Australia

He had finished filming "Australia" in November 2007.

Maybe we can get a cameo from Fassbender grown up or have the same actor that played him as a kid reprise his role

Hmmm very interesting concept art..
Wonder if Wolvie will be trapped in a hole and continuously shot at like that one-and-done issue of his comic a few years back

Also, I would be so happy to see him get nuked ala the "Logan" mini from a couple years ago

And in defense of those crazy CBMers, they were only joking about the Cap cameos

Right. But I thought he still had additional filming to due. As in principal filming was done. But there were still pick-ups that were needed

So, what time period is the movie being set in?

When did the last one take place, like in the late 70s or something? I suspect it'll take place in the 80s, maybe give us a nod to all those Asian-themed flicks that came out during that time period.
