Japan will probably just be for location shooting, and they'll shoot at the studios in Vancouver.

There's a report today that Hugh has booked the Broadhurst Theater in NYC for his one-man show for eight weeks starting October 25. No official confirmation yet, just a report in the local paper from the theater reporter, but that's a good indication that the movie has been delayed. Hugh starts his promotional tour and premieres next week for Real Steel, so I'm sure we'll hear more about it.

I thought Madame Hydra would be a Marvel (Disney) character. Also the article just say Viper and describes her as a secretary.

Ok, but why? Everyone said the script is perfect.

Yeah, I know, 99% of scripts go through the rewrite path, but still... I think I'm mostly worried because of the writer.

Have you ever heard a script for a film described as anything other than perfect?

No one is going to say 'yah, we have a screenplay and right now it's crap'

If Bomback worked with Singer on Giant Killer, then he must be fairly decent at some element of writing!

Too much flapping, I think. People need to read more about Hollywood filmmaking.

If you look at two of Bomback's credits (LFODH and Unstoppable) It's possible they have simply brought him in to beef up the action set pieces in the movie.

That's the best news I've heard all week. :awesome:

Yes, I have. But the thing with this one was, that people who have nothing to do with the project praised the script. They gained nothing from saying so.

McQuarrie was also writing JtGK, so maybe him, or Singer, or both recommended him to FOX. Who knows? He also wrote the meh erotic thriller Deception starring Jackman and McGregor.

People get scared by news like this. I know, because I do, although I know 99.9% of movies have on-set rewrites every day.

Even Simon Kinberg did uncredited on-set writing for First Class.

Really? Any particular scene's as I normally find him a terrible writer?

I'll be honest this worries me, McQuarrie is a superb writer and the script was meant to be brilliant, hope they arent dumbing the script down.
The addition of other writers on big productions generally wouldn't bother me in the slightest, but this could be a worrying sign of things to come given what happened on the last Wolverine movie. David Benioff's script for X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE was great. I think it required some tweaking and a different ending, instead it got rewrite after rewrite until the eventual atrocity was committed to celluloid.

Usually information about how good a script for a big tent-pole movie like this comes from inside the production - a lot of people outside production of THE WOLVERINE have praised McQuarrie's script highly.

Some of us (danoyse, where are you?) don't mind too much that it's been postponed, because to fill the void, Hugh is doing his one-man show from Oct. 25-Dec. 20 on Broadway!! He actually talks about Wolverine in it and shows some clips from his movies, and one of the clips he shows is Wolverine popping out of the water tank. He tells a story about how he went from Peter Allen (showing him in costume with maracas) to Wolverine, and that's when it shows him growling out of the tank as he segues from Peter Allen to that.

Anyway, latest word is this is being filmed after he does Les Miserables. I wonder, I'm pretty sure he really wants to do that one, perhaps the filming overlapped (that should start early in the year) and they thought they could postpone Wolverine to let him do that first and are taking the time to scout more locations, tweak the script a bit, etc?

Who knows what the real reasons are for what goes on in Hollywood, but can't wait to see him back on Broadway! So sounds like we may see this movie in 2013.

Hugh is doing interviews very soon for Real Steel so I'm sure we'll get more info.

:THUD!!!:

Hugh must have known I've been flooded out of my apartment for the past week (and it looks like all next week too).

Early Christmas present! :awesome:

Oh no! Irene got you! I surprisingly didn't lose power or cable and no flooding.

Oh no! Irene got you! I surprisingly didn't lose power or cable and no flooding.

Ugh, Irene got me, all right. :cmad:

My apartment complex got flooded out - the worst of it was 12 feet high, and even my building, which never floods, got about 3 feet. It wiped out the garages, so the apartments are OK, but it's a mess and we might not get power or hot water back for another week. So we're staying with our parents, but their town got flooded badly too, so we got evacuated from there for two days earlier this week (but their house is fine). Luckily my dad is a big First Class fan, so we can watch the blu-ray next week.

So yay! Hugh brings good news! (even though that definitely means Wolverine is delayed). If he sings anything from Les Miz, I'll freak. :awesome:

Actually...the last show I saw at the Broadhurst was Les Miserables.

Yes, I have.

I've never heard a script described as awful by those involved with it or those not involved with it.

But the thing with this one was, that people who have nothing to do with the project praised the script. They gained nothing from saying so.

They were probably just repeating the general gossip. I can't see how all these people had read the script if they had nothing to do with the project.

McQuarrie was also writing JtGK, so maybe him, or Singer, or both recommended him to FOX. Who knows? He also wrote the meh erotic thriller Deception starring Jackman and McGregor.

Yep, I know all that.

People get scared by news like this. I know, because I do, although I know 99.9% of movies have on-set rewrites every day.

A bit silly to get 'scared.' If you had read the McQuarrie script and then knew of a particularly terrible revision/cut that was happening as result of Bomback coming on board, that might be reason to be worried or concerned. But everything is all so non-specific.

I understand that it's the tendency of fanboys either to praise what they haven't yet seen (see the comments relating to Avengers or Dark Knight Rises, along the lines of 'this will be epic') or to tear apart what they haven't yet seen, but I am always hopeful of a more common-sense, realistic and logical approach.

In addition, McQuarrie's work on Valkyrie and The Tourist (neither of which were spectacular films with amazing scripts) indicates to me that he isn't the untouchable deity he is being portrayed as on here.

Even Simon Kinberg did uncredited on-set writing for First Class.

Yes indeed. All films require on-set adjustments when the director and crew discover a scene doesn't work the way it was written, or want to add in a new scene.

I admit it was a shame to lose Aronofsky - and that he might have delivered something amazingly different and edgy.

But the news that Bomback is reworking the script is hard to judge. Especially because all films these days seem to have multiple writers. Just look at First Class for instance: Singer came up with a story treatment, Jamie Moss was hired to thrash out a draft, then Stentz/Miller were brought in to deliver a screenplay in a few weeks, then Matthew Vaughn brought in Jane Goldman. On top of that, we know Kinberg made some on-set adjustments.

Also, X2 had multiple writers. Zak Penn and David Hayter worked on it, before Singer brought in Dan Harris and Michael Dougherty who, at that time, were totally new to screenwriting.

Well I just hope they shoot the movie after Christmas!

So there's a new X-Men movie in 2013!

Read the whole story for updates on First Class and Deadpool, but Lauren S-D says this about Wolverine:

http://www.hitfix.com/articles/x-men-producer-lauren-shuler-donner-talks-wolverine-sequel-deadpool

The next project on the producer's plate is of course "The Wolverine", a sequel to the successful "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" from 2009. While the latter film did well commercially, it was also critically-panned and disappointed many fans of the series.

Not surprisingly, then, "Origins" director Gavin Hood has been swapped out for James Mangold for this installment (following the departure of Darren Aronofsky), with the film taking a completely different approach than its predecessor. Indeed, the fact that it's not called "Wolverine 2" is significant.

"[We want] to distinguish it from the other one," noted Shuler Donner of the title. "It's much more of a standalone [movie]."

As for a start date, though the sequel was originally slated to begin shooting this fall, the production was later reported to have been pushed back to spring 2012. According to Shuler Donner, however, now it's looking more like summer 2012, if anything.

"I'm not sure when we'll start," she said. "Maybe summer 2012 we'll start shooting. It's based on Hugh's schedule, frankly. When he's available, we'll film. ...He's doing 'Les Miserables', and then he has to come and train for us. So it's all dependent on him."

I still love whenever they say they need to work around Hugh's Les Miz schedules. It eases my initial fears that he'd have to ditch that film to shoot Wolverine.

I thought he had already started training for this. :p Does that mean he'll have ended up training for this twice?

He's probably had to stop and go a few times because it was initially supposed to film last year. He did say when he did his stage shows in May and July he lost a lot of weight so it doesn't sound like it's a continual thing.
