Next Big Cosmic Event:The Thanos Imperative

He's been emotionless and bland for so long that that IS his personality. I imagine he is the type who can be floating somewhere, and he is so stoic and lifeless that all the birds flock to him as if he was any other statue, and get freaked when he finally moves. Which, again, is a problem if he is the star of a series. But if he's just going to be a part of a team and blast monsters, that doesn't matter as much, though. He's awfully serene for a guy who is back to being Galactus' waiter.

"Greetings, people of ______. Galactus will eat you today. Would you like a menu of death, or would you prefer to panic for the next few hours? I can offer some lovely bread sticks to go with your annihilation. Now serving Table 10, Galactus of Prior Universe, party of one."

(I know Surfer tries to give the planet's inhabitants enough time to flee, but that really doesn't help them too much. Roaming like endless nomads through space is hardly ideal. And whatever happened to that "Galactus Revenge Squad" that used to put Surfer on trials?)

But what would you fix it to? It's hard to have a sense of humor when you're janitor to the apocalypse like Surfer is. The Surfer has always lusted for no other character besides Shalla-Bal, who is unreachable. The Surfer tries to be loyal to friends, if they don't cut into his brooding/moaning/speechifying time. It's hard for him to act like a naive innocent when he has been around longer than many comic readers have been alive and seen more than some gods have.

The move back to herald was made because no one had any ideas about what to do with him. Removing that herald status would help, but only dredge up the same problem. Being emotionless is his emotion. Being boring is his hobby. It's hard to do anything else and still have it seem like it is "in character" for him.

I don't know, but then again, I'm not a professional writer who gets paid to think s*** up for these characters. :o

Godhunter was a great mini for Beta Ray Bill, written by Gillen. Bill on a one man war against Galactus was awesome! It wasn't quite as good as Stormbreaker, but still very good. The Green of Eden, however, wasn't near as good. A decent aftermath to Secret Invasion: Thor though.

SS had a successful series for decades. I mean, there have been a few relaunches but still. The way he has been written and the bad stories he's been in have been part of the problem. I think JMS would have been the perfect writer to write a SS ongoing. His SS Requiem mini was great.

I followed the Silver Surfer series from 34 to about 105. It was very entertaining.

I read it leading up to and during the Infinity Gauntlet storyline, and during the Morg/Terrax time period. Very good stuff. And that Impossible Man issue really was fun (Acts of Idiocy!)

Yeah, I consider The Green of Eden more of a bridge between Secret Invasion: Thor and Godhunter. You start to see the beginnings of Bill's loss of faith there, which leads to his fall in Godhunter. I personally rate Godhunter slightly above Stormbreaker, myself, but they're both great.

I see the problem with Surfur is that nobody knows what to do with him next.As he stood, he kinda had a finite amount of stories he could do with the "cosmic observer" he displayed in those earlier series.I don't know it sounds like an easy fix. Give him a new mission and some new twists. I think nobody wants to do much with him becuase the old "cosmic searcher" character is so sacred in comics subculture they just are content to do the occasional cameo and mini.Just furthers my opinion that Quesada has no Guts.

I never had any nostalgic moments with Silver Surfer. I once found a great poster of his in the lobby of my apartment building that still hangs in my room, but if terrific artwork made a character great by itself, then Ghost Rider is the best character of the last 35 years. His cartoon from 1998 was god-awfully boring. I've never cared for him at all.

I know Beta Ray Bill has been in space in the past, but he did return to earth for SECRET INVASION: THOR. But he hasn't really been seen since, so by all means let's add him to the major space event. Who knows, it might get some Thor fans to buy it, and present a sales uptick.

I do agree it would have been interesting had Super-Skrull continued on his trend of being morally ambiguous instead of a standard FF punching bag. I don't miss, but he's had his moments. That said, it may be because some writers are as tired of Skrulls after SECRET INVASION as readers are.
No one likes Super-Skrull when he's not verbally and physically abusing sentient machine chicks from the Negative Zone.:csad:

Anyone call on Shuma-Gorath making an appearance and the Transmode Virus used against the Cancerverse?

Wasn't that the story where Silver Surfer tried to connect with every day people?

Which was in no way like his THOR run, in which Thor moved into Oklahoma to interact with the locals.

Which is in no way like his SUPERMAN premise, where Superman sets out to walk across the country and connect with the locals.

Which is in no way like his WONDER WOMAN premise, in which Diana loses most of her powers, gets amnesia, and has to be a street level heroine interacting with the locals.

I'm getting the feeling JMS only has one story premise for any "big power level" character, which hints that he's the one who can't write them doing big powered stuff.

I digress. You are right, there have been a lack of solid Silver Surfer stories since the end of the 90's.

He is a hard character to handle and figure out what to do with. As a "cosmic observer" he basically would wander around getting involved in adventures, which is fine for a while but may not be the hook that gets a monthly audience.

Perhaps not. I wasn't minding him being played as more than a one note villain for once. But then again, I guess that's why everyone was screaming about Baron Zemo lately.

I've heard this a few times, either from you or others. It would make some sense. I doubt that is where it is heading, though.

No Dread, Requiem was about Norrin dying and the effect he had on different races in the cosmo, including the planet Earth.

I just think that Super Skrull should be involved since Lord Mar-Vell and his Lovecraftian masters are a universal threat. Anything that threatens the universe would logically threaten the Skrull Empire remnants. Or maybe Kl'rt is still hunting down his daughter or maybe he's hunting down what's left the Skrull jihadis that didn't participate in the Secret Invasion of Earth ?

But Kl'rt's an outcast and he hated the faction of religious zealots that were featured in Secret Invasion anyway. I don't think he'd care much about what little is left of the Skrull Empire at this point. I'd probably go with the idea that he's off hunting Jazinda as the likeliest scenario.

That's probably true. He was loyal to his empire and his people and he still got treated like trash just because he lost to a group of filthy humans who beat Galactus a bunch of times. I really want to see Kl'rt in this because the way he and Ronan trade insults with eachother.:woot:

Yeah, in the right hands, Kl'rt is just an insanely fun "love-to-hate" character.

Even though The Avengers is still years away from hitting theaters, Marvel fans are curious as to what the next step will be once Earth's Mightiest Heroes unite on screen for the first time. Obviously, heroes like Iron Man, Captain America and Thor will continue to have solo film sequels; and Marvel President Kevin Feige has already publicly pushed for Black Panther, Iron Fist and Doctor Strange live action (albeit smaller budget) films. But is that enough? Once you assemble the largest superhero team ever to appear on screen, what can you possibly do to top it? Tackle the final frontier, of course.

Marvel Studios is going cosmic, and in a big way. After the magnificent showcase which was the Marvel Hall H Comic Con panel, I managed to have some face time with one of my contacts at the studio. Apparently, introducing elements such as the Infinity Gauntlet and Sword (and the Cosmic Cube) are only the beginning. If all goes according to the current plan, The Avengers will feature minor (MINOR) appearances by key cosmic beings from the Marvel Universe. The Easter Eggs won't just be pleasing to fans, but an easy way to pique interest from general audiences.

The characters being considered for inclusion are: Captain Marvel (an amalgam of Mar-Vell and Noh-Varr), Adam Worlock, Black Bolt and Nova. Several of these roles are already being written into the current film treatment, and actors are already being pursued to portray them.

Other characters that may find a way into the film(s): Drax the Destroyer, Moondragon, the Guardians of the Galaxy and Eternity

Now, I wouldn't be able to consider myself a Marvel fan if I hadn't asked whether the Watcher would make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The very pleasing answer I received was, "Absolutely! These movies are going to need a narrator down the road [laughs]"

Damn I just read that, sounds so awesome.

I'd ****ing LOVE to see Annihilation on a big budget movie.

I'm not a religious man, but I am literally praying right now that they use Nova. If they're taking their cues from Annihilation on--and, really, why shouldn't they, given that those comics have gotten people interested in cosmic stuff in a way that hasn't been seen for years--Nova should be the headliner of the film. The only other character who comes close to singularly encapsulating the essence of cosmic awesomeness is the Silver Surfer, and he's under contract with Fox.

A return to ass kicking form for Ronan. Sweet.

I just hope we get a return of at least Nova or GotG post Imperative.

Ha, runic tracery on Stormbreaker. I wonder if we'll start seeing that all over Thor and Bill now because of the movie.

Anyway, that pic is overflowing with awesomesauce. I could do without Ronan twirling his hammer like Thor and Sepulveda's utterly horrible Photoshopped (or whatever) Silver Surfer, but otherwise, just badass.
