Next Big Cosmic Event:The Thanos Imperative

I wonder if the Cancerverse Avengers made it a priority to take out Ultron and that's why we don't see him among the robots ?

Who knows? He could be the leader and the Vision is just taking the Guardians to see him in those few pages we see.

To be fair, the idea of robots not being effected by crazy stuff that effects life was done by Fred Van Lente in some of the later MARVEL ZOMBIES sequels, where he had robot heroes like Jocasta and Machine Man be immune to the whole zombie virus thing. But it still is a solid idea that the Cancerverse rebels would be robot heroes. Just a shame there was no shout out to one of the newest and most neglected ones, Machine Teen. Even if M-11 makes up for it.

What I like about the "DnA" events is that they're actual stories with narrative flow, and not just exercises in stuff happening. The prelude in IGNITION and issue one about "stuff not being serious until the abstracts show" was perfect foreshadowing to now.

To be fair, who the **** read those past 2?

Enough that Marvel kept making them. :o

Yes, fly, my pretties! :awesome:

Hey, I just noticed, Sepulveda got Bill's hammer wrong. Supposed to be an axe opposite the hammerhead, like a less sucky version of Ultimate Mjolnir. :o

It's interesting how despite Beta Ray Bill being there as Space Thor, it's Ronan who is doing the whole "hammer swinging while flying and screaming" pose.

THANOS IMPERATIVE #3 was awesome as usual, but I was a little dismayed by how
randomly Bill appeared. Nova's with the assembled space monarchies and calls for an assemblage of bad-asses, and Bill is just...there. No introduction, no, "I was just passing by from the last mini series no one read," just POOF, someone said his name three times, and Bill was there, JUST in time for THE RIGHT STUFF double page splash, and not a moment sooner. I mean, Ronan and Gladiator haven't done much in a while, but they did previously. Surfer, Nova, and Quasar have been heavily involved in this mini as well as other stuff. But Bill? Just there. He was never even foreshadowed with some throwaway panel appearance in a prior issue, he's just there.

It's comparable to an issue of, say, SECRET AVENGERS where a crisis has brought all three Avengers rosters together and Steve has to choose seven to walk off into battle with, and he chooses the big three and one from each roster...and then at the end is GILGAMESH THE FORGOTTEN ONE, who was never shown at any point in the story before.
Considering how reliable DnA are as writers, I thought it was a beat that could have been executed better.

But beyond that, it was all awesome.

Some of the cosmic big guns need to show up. Like LT or Infinity and Oblivion etc.

That was a bit awkward to me, too. I kept thinking of the old Sesame Street "one of these things is not like the others" thing. Also, Sepulveda's Surfer is still astonishingly horrible. But the issue overall was great.

Drax once again proves he's the ultimate badass in the universe with that last page.

First time was when he ripped Thanos' heart out.
Second time was when he said "we all have to die" and blew up the entire Knowhere compound in the early GOTG SI arc.
And now this. "Disentgration. Kill confirmed".

This is true. I was waiting for it too, once he started going off about killing Thanos now to get it over with. Pretty soon here I'm gonna break out "The Great Space Opera" that is all cosmic stuff since Annihilation and spend a weekend reading it all again. The story DnA (mostly) have crafted since then is truly amazing and of an epic scale unlike most other projects these days.

Yea totally. Marvel's Cosmic line is truly where it's at, in terms of mainstream comics, these days. IMO anyway.

DnA and co have done an amazing job.

Yep, they've built several great events in their own right into one truly massive epic.

Anyway, I'm sure Thanos is fine. Unless being the avatar of Death makes him uniquely able to die regardless of the circumstances (which would be a bit dumb), he's sitting in a universe where death is impossible.

Agreed. Every event since Anihilation has been at least great i think. In fact i think they have shown every one in the comic industry how these events should be done. Even most of the deaths have actually meant something or done well and not just been for shock tactics. Pretty rare these days.

I haven't read it yet! :wow:

I loved the synergy of Mar-Vell's cancer pretty much being the catalyst of the cancerverse.

That was weird but cool. I should probably get around to finally reading The Death of Captain Marvel.

Agreed, that would help.

True. Although the amusing thing is, this is the SECOND time Drax has gone off and attacked Thanos while he was, ironically, trying to help the space heroes. Drax managed to tear out Thanos' heart in ANNIHILATION only because he was distracted trying to help Silver Surfer and Moondragon free Galactus from Annihilus' control machines. And this time, Thanos is working on destroying the Cancerverse for them.

As Corp mentioned, though, like with Bullseye's death in SHADOWLAND, it was more of an obligatory moment than anything, because no one dies in the Cancerverse. I imagine that would apply even for travelers to that dimension; there is no Death to claim them there. Heck, if anything, Drax may have simply helped Thanos become the avatar better.

That, or cause Thanos to mutate and get angrier, like with those Cancerverse Defenders.

Haven't read 3 yet, but I wanted to see if anyone noticed that HUBERT was with the Artificial Life Brigade? You'd think HERBIE would have been the bot but it was definately the post HERBIE / Byrne Era HUBERT.

Anywho... thought that was a weird choice.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

I'm pretty sure the mutations are a result of the Many-Angled Ones' feeding them power or something.

Good eye. I didn't catch that, but then again, I never cared for HERBIE or HUBERT or whatever Reed's token pet robot is in anything except the FANTASTIC FOUR: WORLD'S GREATEST HEROES cartoon, where HERBIE was flipping hilarious.

Yeah, or something.

Has anyone else thought that the GotG and Thanos might eventually bump into the Cancerverse Thanos?

I think it'd be pretty interesting to see the Cancerverse Thanos and how he has been effected by deaths "defeat". Maybe he'd help them? Two Thanos'?!?!

Cancerverse's Thanos is dead. He was sacrificed as part of the Necropsy (I think that's what the ritual was called).
