Batman Begins Nice Coat

About the people that don't like the one-liners (and nipple costumes), Joel Schumacher said: "Those people need to get out more".

But all analogies aside, Batman Begins quotes are superior to the films that came before it.

In this case superior = less inferior, at best.

By definition, something that is superior to something else is less inferior. But I see what you're getting at. When it comes down to it, we just have to agree to disagree

I dont care about the line the only thing I wondered about was how he could remember that scruufy homoless guy after 7 years. Also all that money Bruce gave him and he didnt do anything with it oh well.

But really its sad to winge about 1 line.

It's called levity, which ultimately adds realism. It worked very well in this case. Remember, if you take this stuff too seriously you won't enjoy it as much.

I'm still waiting for the threads of the other one-liners - which are worse.

Sorry to bring a dead thread to life, but I thought the scene would have worked better if after saying "I'm Batman", the bum sees him and looks frightened. Then Bats looks at him and nods, a gesture of good will rather than any spoken word, after which he proceeds to grapple away.

Agreed. Goyer needs to learn that sometimes NOT explaining everything verbally is far better. To let the movie speaks for itself.

I gotta get me one o' those

That was my favorite one liner.

I never 'bought' the logic that Nolan gave for this (and similar scenes), i.e. that the “good people of Gotham” needed to be seen bonding with Batman… the ‘nice coat’ and, for example, the ‘balcony kid’ do more to undermine the intensity of the story rather than relieve tension.

LOL, i agree with him on that one. although in nolans movies, i expected a bit less corniness. i guess that was too much to ask.

but the nice coat line should have been left on the cutting room floor. it just didnt seem like something batman would say. i mean seriously, can you imagine keaton saying "nice coat" or "cool sneakers" after throwing that thug? uh uh. same goes for "excuse me" and "do you drive stick?". uuuh.:csad:

A lot those people did get out... and they went to see Batman & Robin and they realized they should have stayed put and after that no one gave a damn about what Joel Schumacher had to say!

So true.

If Keaton did say it, he'd say it really awesomely.

We're pretty much talking about all of them in this thread.

The driving stick line was the worst. Completely unnecessary and wasn't funny at all. Gordon could drive stick, so what's the point of asking him. Should have just left it out completely.

Well there's no evidence to prove that. :o It would've been interesting if they took at least 30 seconds of footage devoted to Gordon driving to work--driving manual, then it would've been less stupid if Batman asked him if he could drive stick.

"Can you drive stick?"

"Hell yeah!!!" :woot:

We could say the same for him: "You need to make better movies."

There's no point to the line at all, it seems like a line that tries to deliver some kind of comedy but fails.

Batman could have just thrown him the keys and let him drive, what is the relevance of knowing if the tumbler is stick, manual, automatic, whatever.
And what if Gordon couldn't drive stick...........

And what if Gordon couldn't drive stick...........

that would make for some great comedic Gordon action! now THAT would have been funny! personally though, i thought the whole gordon driving the batmobile thing wa kinda lame. he looked like he was playing a videogame, when it breaks hes like "YEEES!" :whatever: now that made me laugh.

i agree. i hated the moments when they tried to spider-dize batman. this isnt a spiderman movie! batman is supposed to be dark and deadly, not giving gadgets to poor little kids! i wanted batman to have a DKR type vibe where even the kida are afraid of him. this is why im glad they cut out that "child saveing" scene from B89, when he picks up the little girl and she says "is it halloween?" and he smirks. that is what batman begins did, and it just didnt work. in a way, i was expecting to see a scene where batman is getting beat up and some ppl help him. can you imagine batman getting attacked by those gas-crazed ppl and some hefty gothamites with heavy new york accents goin "you mess wit 1 of us, you mezz wit All of us!".:o

Well, in the comics and in TAS, Bats also helps out kids. I thought him just giving the gadget to him without saying a words was totally in character.

there's nothing wrong with batman helping kids. but if it's that "not in character" for you, then u'd just let batman leave those kids be to die? another way is to introduce robin so he could help the kids, but u guys dont like robin either. nothing please u guys, lol.

As has be pointed out in the past, Begins is neither the comics nor TAS.

I thought him just giving the gadget to him without saying a words was totally in character.
I thought him just giving away a gadget that he quite probably would need later was totally out of character... well, it would be of character for the intelligent Batman of the comics and TAS, but Nolan's ain't that Batman.
