While I love Sam Jackson and think he's a great actor and cool and all,I prefer the white version of nick fury.
Do you think marvel did the right thing making fury the ultimate version or do you think the 616 was the way to go.
I would've like maybe Bruce willis or Kurt Russel as fury if the 616 was used.

This isn't a racial thing just a preference in character.

White Nick Fury has more history in the Marvel Universe with being a WW2 Veteran and all, but Samuel L Jackson Nick Fury is a far nastier and manipulative son of a *****, which is just wonderful. He's the world's greatest hero and villain at the same time, thats why Ultimate Nick Fury is so damn awesome.

PS. Marvel also now made a African American son for Nick Fury, why? So the Avengers can have a "Black Nick Fury" in the mainstream universe lol. Marcus Johnson is this new character.

They did it because Samuel Jackson was available, which makes sence and i like, but after he leaves it will be more difficult

They're so different, they might as well be entirely separate characters.

But, if, you're thinkin' of my baby, it doesn't matter if you're black or white.

Nick Fury is supposed to be the ultimate cool badass, so they got Hollywood's ultimate cool badass to play him. Samuel L Jackson was the perfect pick, and I wouldn't have done it any differently.

I like both. I am glad that they actually did get Samuel L Jackson for the films. Seeing original Fury on screen would have been just as cool.

We already had a white Nick Fury. His name is The Hoff. ;)

I honestly think most comic characters are post-racial at this point. Off the top of my head Captain America really stands as the only character that should always be white, if only because they created Isaiah Bradley, who is an interesting character in his own right within that WWII super solider story.

There are characters that need to be a certain race because it is a part of their character and backstory. Black Panther, Storm, Mandarin, Magneto and Thor to name a few. Nick Fury is not one of them.

I'd throw in Daredevil too, because of the whole Irish catholic guilt thing. Spider-Man, The Punisher are two other characters that don't necessarily need to be white.

You only have Mark Millar to blame for most people assuming Sam the Man is the definitive Nick Fury. I like the route he went with him, even if I ain't a massive fan of Millar's.

Oh yes. Once I gave an opinion about this very character's race and mods had a party calling it "racial slur" and how much they could threat me with permanent bannings and whatnot.

I explained them it was just an opinion on how to adapt a character and not hating anyone, but since it had been misundersood by one or a bunch of posters, or at least since it was misunderstandable, it was preferable to punish first and ask questions later. Ironically the poster who reported me was later permanently banned because of calling someone 'an idiot.'

I'm glad now it can be discussed openly. But no, I'm not going to say anything about it because of what could happen.

A lot of people seem to be assuming that Jackson will be playing the Ultimate Nick Fury, a-hole attitude and all, but I'm willing to bet its more of an amalgam between the 2. And let's face it, 616 Fury ain't a saint.

2008 I think. But it's always agressive when you don't mean any harm and you're treated like you purposedly meant to spread hate. And no reasonable explanation helps. Leaves you walking on eggs, something you do might or might not be misinterpreted and that misinterpretation is automatically the official truth. Fortunately it was only related to conversation about races, so I know that it is forbidden for me to talk about. I also remember another member, forgot his name but he was known and posted a lot, that gave a similar opinion. He's no longer with us.

Makes me think that racism has left a bigger damage than hatred among us: fear. Fear of having people (possibly) offended. Like that South Park Christmas episode where nothing could be done for the school's Christmas play because there was always someone who could feel offended by it. It's absurd.

Is Marcus Johnson being 616 Nick Fury's son confimed yet?

Considering how much Fury gets around and hiw old he is I'm surprised he doesn't have a bunch of kids running around like Wolverine did.

I agree.

Samuel L.Jacksons character in the XXX films was similar to 616 Nick Fury in terms of personality

Samuel L Jackson is the better Nick Fury. I know alot of fanboys think 616 is better in every way but 616 Nick Fury is kind of boring and cliche. Ultimate Nick Fury (or more to the point Sam) is able to carry himself better in the movies as a shrewd, slightly devious, enigmatic operative.

But he wouldn't be as cool. That's right, I said it.

I prefer Ult Fury over 616, by a large margin.
I'd rather take Samjack over The Hoff any old day. :)

I prefer the Fury from the MAX books, he's just surly old **** that likes whiskey, hookers, and not taking **** from anyone.

i prefer 616 fury to ultimate..i find ultimate too much of an ******** whereas 616 is just duplicious.

Dunno why everyone see's hasslehof as movie fury he starred in a tv movie that didnt do too well.
that's like thinking nicholas hammond as spidey!(from 70s tv show-which i did enjoy!)

I do think that willis or russel wouldve been a great fury...but it wouldnt have the cool edge like jackson..but the tough as nails edge like willis.

Nick Fury is a character who can be played the same white or black, so saying you prefer someone as a white fury although it is someones right to want that, does it matter?

I love the first 2 volumes of the Ultimates and I've got no problem whatsoever with Sam Jackson's Nick Fury being used in the cinematic Marvel Universe but at the same time, given that I grew up with 616 Fury [Steranko's Fury in particular] I'd be lying if I said that a part of me wasn't bummed that we arent getting to see something like that:-
