Today is the first day in what might be a new era for Nintendo. The gaming giant has begun rolling out their first big mobile game Super Mario Run on iOS devices. At the time we’re filming this, it’s available in most but not all countries, and comes in two different versions: a free demo that includes a handful of levels, or the much bigger complete version that costs $14 in Canada. Unfortunately, it won’t be out on Android devices until next year, and Nintendo says you’ll need a constant internet connection in order to play. The good news is that Nintendo promises there won’t be any pesky in-game microtransactions, so if you buy the full version, they won’t ask you for more money. Getting a big Nintendo icon like Mario onto mobile devices has been a long time coming. Nintendo had been holding out against the rising tide of mobile gaming for years, but finally relented last year after disappointing sales of the Wii U. Since then, they’ve made the social app Miitomo, and now that Super Mario Run is here, they’re working on mobile games based on other iconic franchises like Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing. So why might this be the start if a new era for Nintendo? Super Mario Run is expected to make a fortune, with some analysts predicting that it will even make more money than Nintendo’s traditional console and handheld games, something that could dramatically change the direction of the company. Thankfully, Nintendo says they’re committed to console gaming, and we hope that doesn’t change. Their latest system, the Switch, hits stores in March.

Nintendo just personally talked me out of buying Super Mario Run. I can't link My Nintendo account to it. It just won't let me. No error code. It just won't do it. I called Nintendo Support and they essentially told that it's a bummer and there's nothing they can do for me.

 

Had no clue this was a free download. Good idea to let people demo before buying it. I like what I played of it so far but not sure I like that you automatically pass over obstacles and enemies if you dont tap

 

I quite like Super Mario Run. At first, it might seem like a very short game, as there are only a few worlds, but that ignores the challenges against other players and the challenges to re-do the worlds and get the special coins, both of which are awesome and more fulfilling and challenging then they sound.

I'd say the game is worth the money. I'm still disappointed it requires an internet connection, but nevertheless, an awesome game and better than most mobile games.

Over in Nintendo’s mobile world, Super Mario Run is a huge success, but not everything is good in the Mushroom Kingdom. Nintendo launched their first big mobile game on Thursday, and, according to the mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower, it earned more than $5 million in its first day. This makes it the fastest-selling mobile game in history, beating the previous record holder, Pokémon Go, by more than $2 million. Many people, including yours truly, were predicting that Super Mario Run would make a lot of money, but here’s where Nintendo might be running into a few problems: the game currently has a very low score of just 2.5 stars on the App Store user review page. This doesn’t bode well for the long-term success of the game, and has already caused Nintendo’s stock price to fall by around 10%. So why are users giving Super Mario Run bad reviews? Most of them appear to be complaining about the game’s price – it costs $10 in the US and $14 in Canada – but doesn’t have in-game microtransactions. Most mobile titles do it differently, being free to download but charging players later, so the average mobile users isn’t as willing to pay a premium price up front. This seems to indicate that the business model Nintendo’s is used to on consoles and handhelds just isn’t suited for the modern mobile market, which is something they’ll need to adjust to going forward since they’re planning to release more mobile games.

ok so this one confused the heck out of me with where to put this. it's still under the Nintendo brand but it's for smart phones so the latter would or should put it in the multi plat area but Nintendo has branched out into mobile. so i was struggling abit. if it should stay in the mobile area.


heck I gave it itown thread incase someone or one's misses it. and just wanted mario run for the time being. but as tronny said not alot of people on have taken to mobile yet. (or if they have they aren't talking enough)
