While data mining Miitomo, a peek at Nintendo’s upcoming Fire Emblem mobile game app may have been discovered by The Cutting Room Floor’s Ehm2k. [Thanks, SerenesForest.]

Fire Emblem’s mobile game was announced back on April 27th and will be for iOS and Android devices. The new images found by data mining give us a look at some backgrounds, a map, and a stone structure. What further confirms these as files for the mobile game is the fact that one of the images contains the same emblem from the logo Nintendo revealed previously. In addition, some Legend of Zelda files were discovered, but it’s likely those were aren’t linked to any new or unannounced titles.

Miitomo is available for iOS and Android devices. Fire Emblem is currently slated to release for iOS and Android sometime in March 2017.

New Era of Nintendo – The RundownToday in the Rundown,

we find out how Nintendo might be entering a new era with the release of their first big mobile game Super Mario Run. We also get the latest from the Star Trek and Star Wars universes, continue the battle with the controversial space exploration game No Man's Sky, find out what were the most googled words in 2016, and finally, have some very honorable new announcements about For Honor!

Today is the first day in what might be a new era for Nintendo. The gaming giant has begun rolling out their first big mobile game Super Mario Run on iOS devices. At the time we’re filming this, it’s available in most but not all countries, and comes in two different versions: a free demo that includes a handful of levels, or the much bigger complete version that costs $14 in Canada. Unfortunately, it won’t be out on Android devices until next year, and Nintendo says you’ll need a constant internet connection in order to play. The good news is that Nintendo promises there won’t be any pesky in-game microtransactions, so if you buy the full version, they won’t ask you for more money. Getting a big Nintendo icon like Mario onto mobile devices has been a long time coming. Nintendo had been holding out against the rising tide of mobile gaming for years, but finally relented last year after disappointing sales of the Wii U. Since then, they’ve made the social app Miitomo, and now that Super Mario Run is here, they’re working on mobile games based on other iconic franchises like Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing. So why might this be the start if a new era for Nintendo? Super Mario Run is expected to make a fortune, with some analysts predicting that it will even make more money than Nintendo’s traditional console and handheld games, something that could dramatically change the direction of the company. Thankfully, Nintendo says they’re committed to console gaming, and we hope that doesn’t change. Their latest system, the Switch, hits stores in March.

Nintendo just personally talked me out of buying Super Mario Run. I can't link My Nintendo account to it. It just won't let me. No error code. It just won't do it. I called Nintendo Support and they essentially told that it's a bummer and there's nothing they can do for me.

Had no clue this was a free download. Good idea to let people demo before buying it. I like what I played of it so far but not sure I like that you automatically pass over obstacles and enemies if you dont tap

I quite like Super Mario Run. At first, it might seem like a very short game, as there are only a few worlds, but that ignores the challenges against other players and the challenges to re-do the worlds and get the special coins, both of which are awesome and more fulfilling and challenging then they sound.

I'd say the game is worth the money. I'm still disappointed it requires an internet connection, but nevertheless, an awesome game and better than most mobile games.

Blade Runner 2049 Unveiled – The Rundown

Today in the Rundown, we examine the first footage from the new Blade Runner movie, get old school with the classic science fiction movie Metropolis, get the latest from the Star Wars galaxy, take a look at the new Dynasty Warriors Dragon Quest games, and finally, head to the Mushroom Kingdom for the latest on Nintendo!

Over in Nintendo’s mobile world, Super Mario Run is a huge success, but not everything is good in the Mushroom Kingdom. Nintendo launched their first big mobile game on Thursday, and, according to the mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower, it earned more than $5 million in its first day. This makes it the fastest-selling mobile game in history, beating the previous record holder, Pokémon Go, by more than $2 million. Many people, including yours truly, were predicting that Super Mario Run would make a lot of money, but here’s where Nintendo might be running into a few problems: the game currently has a very low score of just 2.5 stars on the App Store user review page. This doesn’t bode well for the long-term success of the game, and has already caused Nintendo’s stock price to fall by around 10%. So why are users giving Super Mario Run bad reviews? Most of them appear to be complaining about the game’s price – it costs $10 in the US and $14 in Canada – but doesn’t have in-game microtransactions. Most mobile titles do it differently, being free to download but charging players later, so the average mobile users isn’t as willing to pay a premium price up front. This seems to indicate that the business model Nintendo’s is used to on consoles and handhelds just isn’t suited for the modern mobile market, which is something they’ll need to adjust to going forward since they’re planning to release more mobile games.

A new mode is now available in Super Mario Run. Friendly Run mode lets you choose specific friends to race against, without using up your Rally Tickets. [Thanks, NintendoEverything.]

Essentially a riskless version of Toad Rally, playing Friendly Run won’t cause you to lose or gain Toads. However, you can only play the new mode a limited amount of times per day, which are dependant on whether or not you have cleared the first world. If you have not cleared the first world, you can only play once a day. Clearing World 1 will let you play three times a day, while clearing World 2 will allow you to play Friendly Run up to five times. As another note, Friendly Run can only be accessed once you have completed the Kingdom Builder tutorial.

Here are the full details on Friendly Run mode from Nintendo:
“Looking to improve your performance in Toad Rally?
Eager to know how THAT person on your Friend List has been able to stay out in first place all week?
If this sounds familiar, you should try out Friendly Run, where you can casually compete against your friends!
No need for Rally Tickets in this mode!

How to Play Friendly Run

Step 1: Add a friend!
If you haven’t yet added a friend, this is the perfect opportunity!
You can add friends by going to your Friend List and then tapping Link, Invite, or Add.

Once the other person accepts your invitation, the process is complete!

Step 2: Choose your opponent from your Friend List!
Once a friend is added to your Friend List, you can challenge them to a Friendly Run!
Decide who to challenge from your list of friends and then tap the Run button to start!

About Play Limits
The number of times you can play in a day is determined by the progress you have made in World Tour.

Number of Daily Plays Available:

 • Haven’t cleared World 1: One time

 • World 1 cleared: Three times

 • World 2 cleared: Five times

Playing Friendly Run will not increase the number of enemies defeated, coins, and Toads.
You can play Friendly Run once you have completed the Kingdom Builder tutorial.”

With the release of Super Mario Run for smartphones just a little over a week ago, Nintendo has revealed in a recent interview that they have big plans for mobile gaming in the year 2017. [Thanks, NintendoEverything.]

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima spoke to Kyoto Shimbun and discussed the company’s prospects into mobile gaming for the near future. Kimishima said that Nintendo hopes to be able to release about 2 or 3 mobile games in the next year.

When it comes to Super Mario Run, Kimishima says that the game’s 40 million downloads have “met their expectations,” and that he believes the app will grow to over 100 million downloads with time. Additionally, when asked about the topic of in-app purchases as well as microtransactions, Kimishima said parents won’t have to worry about spending large amounts of money. Kimishima also mentioned that expanding to making smartphone titles has further supported Nintendo’s console division, creating interest in the copmany and its upcoming new console, the Switch, with a larger audience.

In closing, Kimishima noted that they are listening to player feedback for Super Mario Run in order to further improve the app, mentioning that the number of paying players for the mobile game is “very high.”

Super Mario Run Stumbles From Its Previous Spot As Highest-Grossing App In Any Country. December 27, 2016 . 8:30am

Super Mario Run, started off strong on its first day of release, achieving the title of highest-grossing app in 80 countries. However, new data shows that Nintendo’s mobile endeavor has fallen from that top spot.

9 comments Read >

Nintendo’s latest mobile endeavor, Super Mario Run, started off strong on its first day of release, grossing roughly $5 million in its first 24 hours and achieving the title of highest-grossing app in 80 countries. However, based on data gathered by App Annie, Bloomberg reports that the side-scrolling autorunner has fallen from that top spot.

It could be that the game’s pricing structure is in part to blame for this stumble in sales, with Super Mario Run requiring a $10 purchase to be able to enjoy all that the title has to offer. Apptopia suggests that, if Nintendo were to lower that price point to $2, they would see the app gross roughly $50 million for this month instead of the current $30 million.

However, despite this recent drop, Super Mario Run still remains the top-downloaded free app in 88 countries as of right now, and it is likely to get a boost in sales when the app releases for Android next year.

Super Mario Run is available for iOS devices and will release for Android sometime in 2017.

Last week, Nintendo announced that Fire Emblem Heroes, their latest mobile game, would be releasing for smartphones on February 2nd. Now we have learned a few more facts about the mobile game, thanks to an email sent to the Japanese Fire Emblem Heroes customer support by Reddit user SBelmont. In the email, they asked whether or not the game would have one global server and if players would be able to change the language of in-game text and voices.

Customer support responded, saying that there will be one global server for all players, meaning that players won’t be divided over several servers by region and language. There will also be the option to change the language of the game’s text. However, the language of in-game voices will not have the option to be changed.

Fire Emblem Heroes will release for iOS and Android devices on February 2nd.

In Nintendo’s financial results briefing for fiscal year ending March 2017, company president Tatsumi Kimishima talked Fire Emblem, with some info on demographic and Fire Emblem Heroes.

I will now talk about the third smart-device application, following Miitomo and Super Mario Run, that Nintendo will release, Fire Emblem Heroes. Distribution for both the iOS and Android versions of Fire Emblem Heroes will begin tomorrow, February 2, in 39 countries worldwide.

The Fire Emblem series is a franchise that is supported enthusiastically by fans in their 20s and 30s in particular. The series has become especially popular overseas since the titles on the Nintendo 3DS.

Though Fire Emblem Heroes changes many aspects of the Fire Emblem series to better suit play on a smart device — such as smaller maps that fit on a smartphone screen and the ability to attack enemies by dragging an allied character over an enemy — it inherits a deep battle system and the joy of training your characters, which are aspects typical of the Fire Emblem series. We developed Fire Emblem Heroes to be a quality title that fans of the series will appreciate and play thoroughly. At the same time, we hope to provide a chance for consumers who have never played Fire Emblem before to experience the appeal of the series.

This title uses the free-to-start business model, in which users can download the game and start playing for free. As the word “Heroes” in the title implies, users can acquire various heroes who have appeared throughout the history of the Fire Emblem series. Heroes are obtained by expending items called orbs. The focus of the game is to train your characters, form a team to take into battle by picking heroes from those and progress through the story. Characters are acquired randomly. Users can acquire orbs, which are required to get characters, by progressing in the game’s story, but they can also purchase additional orbs in the shop. Distribution for Fire Emblem Heroes will begin tomorrow.

Fire Emblem Heroes launches February 2, 2017 for iPhone and Android.

Making The Most Of Your Fire Emblem Heroes Rolls. February 2, 2017 . 3:00pm

There are a lot of warriors in Fire Emblem Heroes. There’s a good chance you won’t get the best or coolest characters right away. But, patience will reward players.

60 comments Read >

Fire Emblem Heroes is going to be a game with so many different warriors to choose from. After all, it will eventually have characters from 12 installments available. You’re going to have favorites you’ll want to get and use. But, since this is a game where the majority of your units will come from random pulls on an in-game gacha, you aren’t guaranteed the folks that you’d like. Fortunately, there are some things that make not getting the character you want, or the character you want at a certain star level, more bearable.

First is the rerolling. When you begin Fire Emblem Heroes, it is possible to get through an initial portion, go for a multi-summon pull with 20 Orbs, and then restart if you don’t like the five heroes you get from that roll. The downside is, it will mean redownloading the 300MB game each time. But, if you’re okay with that and connected to Wi-Fi, it is a simple process. You download the game and begin, but don’t connect it to a My Nintendo account. Going through the tutorial will give you 15 Orbs. Finishing that and doing the first three missions will get you another five Orbs. You can then use those 20 on one of the gachas. Once you get a group of characters you like, link your My Nintendo account and stick with them.

Now, when you get characters, they’ll have a certain number of stars assigned to them. This is an indication of their rarity and potential. So you could get a 4-star Fateful Prince Corrin, which might seem disappointing. But, if you keep investing in him, he could eventually get up to a 5-star unit. So, with your initial pulls, you shouldn’t let star rating determine whether you reroll or not. Instead, you should look at who you’ve gotten and what class they belong to. See how well they would or wouldn’t work for your initial party. At level 20, you can rank up the unit, which adds another star, increases stats, and offers better skills for them to learn.

There are two different gachas at the moment with characters available. One is Legendary Heroes, while the other is Deep Devotion. Each one will get you some pretty good people. What you want to do is choose a gacha based on the major characters in each one. Fire Emblem Heroes’ Legendary Hero will have a better chance of giving you Marth, Lucina, Robin, and Tiki. On the other hand, people who like Camilla, Lyn, Roy, and Takumi should go for Deep Devotion.

Once you get a group you’re happy with, it’s a good idea to start preparing the initial party. What you’ll want to do is invest in a Fire Emblem Heroes castle as soon as you can. This is a building purchased and existing outside of battle. It permanently increases in-battle experience, and it can even double the amount you earn. Once a castle has been purchased and is in place, it’s a good idea to start battling and using Universal Crystals. Both can level up units. If you have My Nintendo Platinum Points, you can even spend them on Universal Crystal Shards for characters under level 19 and Universal Crystals for those over level 20.

Fire Emblem Heroes also has a Limit Break system. With gachas, there’s always a chance you’ll pull duplicates of characters you already own. But combining these doubles with a character you already have, you can improve the one you’ve been training. This will increase the original character’s stats and SP.

With hero distribution being what it is, there’s a good chance you won’t get all of the Fire Emblem Heroes characters you want at the very start. It might take time to build the exact roster you’d like. But, don’t be disheartened if your initial few heroes aren’t the people you want or don’t have high star rankings. It is possible to rather easily reroll. Also, you can always level up and improve the people you collect. Take your time, don’t splurge for the sake of getting all five-star armies of incredible heroes, and you should accumulate a nice collection over time.

Fire Emblem Heroes is available for Apple iOS and Android devices.
