No evil shall escape my sight...The Official John Stewart Thread

Is John Stewart required for the GL Corps in this new DCCU?

  • Yes and I think he should be the main Green Lantern.

  • Yes, but I want him to be a complementary Green Lantern for the Corps.

  • No. we only need one Green Lantern.

I totally understand the general audience is going to watch these movies regardless of which versions of the characters are used. However I also reaffirm my claim that a former gigantic mistake needs to be fixed and not solely because of my biased views on the character. I believe(though I could be wrong) that DC keep using Hal Jordan outside of comics proves that they don't consider him to be toxic because he is for all intents and purposes the foundation of the GL mythos. They may or may not think that in order to start a successful franchise, you need that very foundation, regardless of whatever negative stigma he might be perceived by some to be carrying from that movie 4 years ago. If so, it basically means that, yes, WB/DC does "need" to fix it. Now, do I personally believe that we "need" Hal Jordan in a Justice League movie? Obviously not, it's an ensemble piece that is not defined by which Flash or which Green Lantern is there. However you don't just keep promoting a character like that for so long, including for years after his movie failed, just to put him on the back burner. I think they would go with introducing whoever they decide in the JL movie and then having him and someone else in the GL 2020 movie. But I don't see them completely abandoning Hal after he's been showcased as the main Green Lantern outside of comics since his return and keeps getting heavily promoted years after the movie's failure.

Well with these John Stewart/Green Lantern rumors for JL and possibly solo films in 2018/2019...I'm going throw this sleeper as John Stewart, if WB's doesn't go young for John.

I actually think Terry Crews would be a great choice as John Stewart/GL. He would be right along the lines of The Rock as John Stewart. Crews has screen presence, charisma, humor, intensity, physicality and can do action.

I would much rather see Crews ahead of Tyrese as Stewart/GL.

Regardless of why the movie failed, it failed. Even if it's not his fault, how can Hal not be associated with a film that he was the star of? When a movie succeeds or fails, the main character tends to be associated with that success or failure. If the movie was a huge billion dollar success, would you not associate Hal with it?
Hello, Hulk ;) and then including on the Avengers then.

I can only hope so, but I doubt they will also. They need to make an announcement sometime soon.

Nah. Not even close. Hulk is an icon. Hulk's movies both cost less to make than GL and still made more money. They both fared better w/critics also. Hulk's films can be described as under-performers. GL can only be described as a failure both critically AND financially.

We are talking about how were received and The first Hulk one was really bad received (fans and critics) and even by B.O, I must remember you. And of course many thought the same thing some are thinking now of Hal.

Mind you that Green Lantern is an icon if not higher than the Hulk was before the Avengers. ;)

Before all these movies came along the top five most recognizable superheroes were Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman and Hulk.

Before those movies, I had little knowledge of who the Hulk was.

That's nice. Your personal experience is closer to the exception than it is to the rule tho.

This is pretty much it. I may throw Flash in there

Ever since The 4400, one of my choices outside of the same people who always get mentioned is Mahershala Ali.

Good pick! He really did look the part when he had his uniform on back in the war days

i always though Erik King (Sgt. Doakes from Dexter) would make an excellent John Stewart

I like the idea of Hal and John being the co-leads of the Green Lantern movie, it gives both characters a sense of importance to the new DCCU.

True, but I would like if they use some of the others, too. Everyone knows about Hal and John, so why not give some more exposure to Kyle or Guy as well.

Tyrese on Instagram seems to be dropping a hint about him becoming GL soon.

^^ This again? How long is this guy going to keep lobbying for himself? I guess there could be some truth to it, but would WB allow anybody to talk about their supposed casting? It's not like what happened with Jason Momoa, he wasn't the one who started the news, the sites broke the casting and he still had to keep denying it until it was made official. When Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman, she didn't post on twitter or instagram about auditioning for the part beforehand. So why would they allow Tyrese to talk about the role? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

i hope this entire Tyrese as GL thing is just wishful thinking on his part. nothing against Tyrese, but he's just wrong for the part of John Stewart

He's just promoting himself and seeing if Warner consent. Not seeing Warner Bros casting him tho. We'll see.

If they go older John Stewart and want someone with the physicality to do action, slong with having screen presence and a sense of humor to do some comedy.

Terry Crews all the way!

Chris Pine as Hal Jordan
Terry Crews as John Stewart

I'm a fan of Crews, but I've never seen him in anything to make me think he's right for JS. I'd support it if it happened, but he's not ideal. Not serious enough

^^^
That is what I would be for! Pine as Hal and Crews as Stewart!

Especially if Idris can't be had as John.

They would both be from the military of course (Hal/Air Force, John/Marines) and maybe have a previous relationship as friends...yet a friendly military rivalry where they always talk smack and are having fun with eachother but when things are serious they are serious and they always have eachothers back!

Both have screen presence, are known name actors and both can do big time action and both can do humorous witty banter and comedy with some drama mixed in.

Those two would be fun to watch as our main Green Lanterns IMO!

The Hal John friendship should be rocky at first, the mutual respect has to be earned . I forget what story it was, but in Geoff Johns' GL run, Hal and John get into a fistfight before they become friends. I think that dynamic would be fun to explore on film

Yeah...that was Green Lantern Secret Origins I believe where Air Force guys into a fight with some Marines in a bar and Stewart and Hal go at it for a spell.
