No Fear, All Sky: Kyle Chandler IS Hal Jordan/Green Lantern

One thing I have forgotten to mention is that Kyle generally has great taste in projects. Both on TV and film. Sure, he does the Monsterverse movies as a bit of junk food (and there are certainly worse junk food franchises around), but his filmography, the talent he's chosen to work with from Friday Night Lights onward has been an unusual abundance of quality. Carol, Zero Dark Thirty, Super 8, The Spectacular Now, Wolf of Wall Street, Argo, Game Night, Manchester By The Sea, First Man, Bloodline, Catch-22...any actor would kill for a filmography like that. The fact that he's chosen to do this bodes very well for this project, imo.

Seeing as how we have a more mature Hal, I’m hoping for a more mature Carol Ferris.

Maybe Jennifer Aniston.
I could definitely see that. Speaking of Jennifers, I could also see Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Connelly pretty easily too. But hey, if we're going for houshold names for Carol, let's call Sandra Bullock and Halle Berry while we're at it!

More realistically...Rhea Seehorn or Michelle Monaghan? I know the latter's 10 years younger than Kyle, but I'm used to seeing her as Tom Cruise's and Matthew McConaughey's wife so it doesn't even seem that way. :weeping:

I started watching Friday Night Lights. I'm only a few episodes in, but Chandler is great. He does look like Hal, specifically 20 years ago lol. I also didn't realize he was in Slumberland. I watched it, but I guess I didn't know who he was.

I look forward to seeing Hal go crazy and become Parallax who John will have to put down. It's gonna happen.

I wonder if Chandler's casting was in any way influenced by Sarah Aubrey. Aubrey was heavily involved w/ Friday Night Lights and currently serves as Head of Original Content for Max. Maybe not, but you never know.

I’m glad it didn’t go to Ewan or Brolin. Was hoping for Pine or McConaughey but Kyle is a good pick. He’ll do a good job with whatever he’s given, I just hope it doesn’t have too much Earth One influence. That version of Hal isn’t the one I want to see onscreen. It’s a solid story but I wouldn’t lean into that as the main influence if I were in charge.

The Hal we're getting is most likely going to die early on so that Jon can get the ring.

I don't like that thought process. What's great about GL is that more than one person can have a ring. John can totally be the main GL in the DCU, but I don't think Hal should have to die for that to be the reason he is. I think Hal should have been in his late 30s/40s, tbh. But hey, I'm just here for the ride...

I was very disappointed when I first saw Kyle Chandler was cast, mostly because of his age. But after watching Friday Night Lights... I can see it. Sorry Mr. Chandler... I wasn't familiar with your game lol!

I still think if the DCU is a big success, and particularly Lanterns is, they could eventually do a prequel Hal series or something. It even animated feature. I just see Hal & Barry being close to the same age. I'd say Ollie too, but they may actually have plans for Green Arrow in current DCU. But he would fit an old school JL line up with Hal & Barry.

I want Kyle to be introduced properly instead of John just stealing Kyle’s origin story. If they kill off Hal and do the Parallax storyline, I’d love it if they tease Kyle at the end.

Alan, Hal, John, Kyle, Guy, and (to a lesser degree) Jessica are the only earth GLs I give a **** about. Simon and Jo are uninteresting and unnecessary characters in everything I’ve read with them, and I hope they resist introducing those two until the others have been well established. I hate Simon’s gimp suit and even though Jo’s suit is kinda cool, I just don’t think she adds anything to the lore.

To me, what this show should be is Hal and John being partners in a buddy cop way. So killing Hal off right up the bat and having his ring go to John would be a waste.

I agree. I do worry it may end up being the case. I am hoping that if it is, Chandler leaves such an impression on the character of Hal Jordan, they are swayed to further explore his character in other projects, whether it's live action or animated.

We have a fairly accurate insider/scooper/leaker who says that Hal And John are both active together for a bit at least, so I don't think we have to worry about Hal being killed early.

I think Hal may simply be going through some regrets in the series, he's older, he may have already been with Carol and that could have failed, he could just be dissatisfied with how he spent his life, I think a more natural conclusion to that is him finding Happiness or fulfilment and not necessarily through death, but new friendships and relationships.
