No Film has ever had Great three sequels in a row

Actually, everyone's forgetting the longest-running sequel franchise in film history -- the Blondie movies!

That's right, this first "Blondie" had 27 sequels with the same main actors.

-And I'll bet the third Blondie movie was every bit as good as the first two! ;)

In LOTR, Fellowship of the Rings and Return of the King did awesome. The Two Towers did medeocor...

I've never seen a complete Matrix film, so I can't say on that...

Indiana Jones: Raiders and Crusade both did awesome! Temple of Doom did poorly in my opinion... or at least not as good as it could have.

In terms of StarWars. Episode 4 (first one made) was awesome when it came out! Episode 5 turned out just as good. Return of the Jedi did better IMO.

Then when they started the story again with Ep1. That one did good because people thought it would be good. But the story wasn't that great. Ep2 did good in BoxOffice because peopel thought it would be good, but it still wasn't that good. Ep3 did AWESOME in the BoxOffice AND it was a good story...

... In Spider-Man they keep getting better and better. ;)

nitemare on elm street?
Mate, you're trying to tell me the second one was good? I understand Dream Warriors. Seeing as he meant all three movies in the trilogy being successful. Plus, he didn't even say that... he said "three sequels", which would mean Nightmare on Elm Street 4, which IMO is just as bad as 2 bar no continuity.

I think SM3 will be great, and definetly raise up the action suspense. :)

The creator of this thread should be tied up and beaten.

"I don't want another Spidey movie because Rocky and Alien did bad after three films........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................"

Think about it. I really hope Spider-Man 3 is the final Spider-Man film for a very very long time...

It is so rare to have a good sequel, let alone a better part 3! Raimi is one of the few directors that could pull it off, imo.

Star Wars was a great trilogy, but once they hit part 4, people hated it.

Anything past Rocky 2 got silly.

Alien and Aliens were great, but then Alien 3 couldn't deliever.

Bottom line is movie character arcs get stale and the writers can develop the character any further after a third movie.

As far as I know, unless someone can prove me wrong, there has never been a great three sequels in a row that have all surpassed their original...

Spider-Man films have had Goblin, Goblin 2, Doc Ock, Venom, and Sandman. I realize there are many more villains out there, but these are the core villains and I think that any more would just be over kill.

Rocky 3, and 4 were real good movies, and the last Rocky Balboa was a heck of a good movie to... Rocky 5... not so good.

As far as Alien, and Aliens ill give you that but what about Nightmare on Elm Street? While all silly after part 4 it had 3 solid sequels, and don't forget the Chucky movies... heh ok maybe those were doomed from the start.
But I love all the chucky movies so sue me...
And By the way Star Wars didn't start getting good until part 3 my friend... Don't get it twisted everything after Revenge of the Sith is classic.

:wow:
Do you not understand the brilliance of Alien 3? Go rewatch it now!

army of darkness was a satire in its own genre. it wasnt meant to be taken too seriously. but it was more entertaining than the first two. as for elm street, although part 2 wasnt that great, it wasnt entirely bad either, at the time it came out. i was just trying to point out that there are other movies with good and sometimes just ok sequels out there.

did anybody else understand that he meant there havent been three great sequels? So yes, there have been great trilogies, but he's saying there have never been 3 great films after a good first one. I can't think of any either.

No matter what happens I think it's very clear that the Spider-man series is the best Superhero/comic book franchise ever. The only series that may even come close is Superman. The first two Superman movies were good, but after that it went downhill. However,Spidey is king!!

:cough:James Bond:cough:

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Sure, there are two dozen Bond movies out there, but they're wildly inconsistent in terms of quality and more to the point, there are 5 different actors playing Bond.

I would say that the most consistently good franchise that has gotten longer than a trilogy of films is the Harry Potter films. The books and the movies have proven to be immensely successful and critically acclaimed (the sequels may not have been great for you guys, but they were consistently good), not to mention the main cast has been retained for all five movies (and subsequently, the remaining two). The franchise may not bring in a lot of dough like the Spider-Man movies do, but still they've brought in a huge profit with each successive installment. (Not to mention they've had 5 movies in the space of 6 years, while we have only gotten 3 Spidey movies in the span of 5 years.)

I thought Spider-Man was okay (when I first saw it, I really liked it but now it's just meh), the second movie was a massive improvement and the third movie should even top the second movie. I don't think we should count our chickens before they hatch -- that is, don't automatically assume that the fourth movie will be good. It hasn't even been greenlighted yet!

And the other franchises... Indy was inconsistent (hated "Crusade"), never bothered to watch the Matrix sequels, Star Wars was inconsistent (loved the first two, hated the third and the prequels), ditto for Star Trek and so forth. The Lord of the Rings was filmed as a complete trilogy and all three were great, but we haven't a fourth one, so that's disqualified.

Well lets see:

LOTR? NO!!! I love the films but Fellowship of the Ring is the superior one with The Two Towers being the worst. ROTK is almost as good as FOTR.

Matrix? NO!!! The first one is classic, Reloaded is is only good for action and the third crap...until we get Smith's "why" speech.

Aliens? Well to me they all suck.

Evil Dead? The first one sucks, the second is the best and the third is dead funny.

Star Wars (Good) Well Empire is the best one with ROTJ is second and A New Hope 3rd.

Star Wars (bad) YES!!!! The Phantom Menace is utter utter tripe, Attack of the Clones is utter tripe and Revenge of the Sith is...dare I say it good (although every time Ewan 'worst actor in the world' Mcgregor opens his mouth my ears bleed).

Indy? Well the first one is great, the second is dark but not as good as the other two and Crusade is amazing, Sean Connery finally learned to be funny.

Harry Potter? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...YAWN...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Spider-Man? Well the first was awesome, the second was better still and this third one looks to make the first two seem like student films.

Only very subjectively are you right in saying sequels are not better.

Let me point out a MUCH more valid and more IMPORTENED point, then just -No Film has ever had Great three sequels in a row-!.... How about the fact that the SPIDER-MAN franchise is the ONLY one in superhero-movie-history that has kept the same beautiful cast, film-makers, not to mention the same genius DIRECTOR out through all 3 films!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's an achievement all by it self; That's something to be damn PROUD off!!!

I am so confident that after spidey 3 hits theaters worlwide, it'll stand out as the STRONGEST and most STYLISH superhero-franchise ever! Spidey 3 is not gonna make the same mistake as X3 did! When people get cocky with me, asking me "How can you be so ****ing sure smart guy!??"... I simply say "Because of Sam Raimi!!!"... and if you dont understand what I mean by that then read the first 6 LINES of my post, one more time!!!

Each time, the spidey flicks stand stronger! They're getting better! They have more money on their hands EACH TIME!... They have the best people within each field working on Spider-Man 3! They've really taken their time for this one (3 years!) CONFIDENT??? You better ****ing believe it! Spidey 3 will OWN every other movie's ASS this summer!

What a stupid, stupid thread. Stating what's in the title as if it's fact! It's all down to opinion at the end of the day. It's ridiculously presumptious to say Spiderman will be the first franchise to have 3 great films!

Star Wars
LOTR
Godfather
Matrix (Ye, I thought it ended well)
Jurassic Park
Terminator
Indy
Beverly hills cop :p
Harry Porter
Rambo
Rocky

3rd installments I didn't think lived up to the rest, though others might disagree

X-men
Alien

POTC: At worlds end is bound to join the good trilogy group. The trailer alone had me drooling

actually, if i'm born in the mid 90's and see SW episode 3 first, then it has three amazing sequels. Rocky 1 and 2 are amazing, rocky 3 is great(i pity the fool that thinks otherwise) and rocky 4 has Ivan Drago.( He will break you). but in essence, were all right, from a certain point of view(quote Obiwan Kenobi) :woot:

^Funny how no one is mentioning "ROCKY 5" which CLEARLY has the most heart when competing against 3 & 4!!!

Not to mention the new "ROCKY BALBOA" that was such a beautiful ending for a 30 year old franchise!!! That one is so good! It's so warm and so surprisingly meaningful!!! and if one doesn't think so, then one DOESN'T understand/get it at all!!!
