No Man's Sky

people are already pissed about this game. two people found out they were near one another, got to the same locations, streamed it and could not see one another. sounds like multiplayer isn't actually possible considering you can pause your game.
Murray tweeted about it. From his tweets, it sounds like it IS supposed to be possible and he is surprised it's happened so soon. No clear mention of why (outside of more people playing than anticipated) they can't see each other, unfortunately.

I DO like Minecraft. The only reason I stopped playing was because I sank too much time into it.

Mining for iron had me pick axing away like those tunnels were full of crack.
Right on. Then you shouldn't have any problems enjoying this game.

He didnt really address anything, he just acknowledged that it happened. Saying "wow, didnt expect that" doesnt answer why they couldnt see each other, why it was night on one stream and day on the other. Unless there is some weird story element to explain this i am not sure why hes being so cryptic. unless he fears it may hurt sales if he says MP doesnt exist.

i think the fact that you can pause a "MP" game implies that its not MP.

hello super ai it's nice to meet you. ok here's the thing mr murry did put up two tweets the one prior to people comeplaints stated that this game noman's sky is not a multiplayer and not to expect to play like one .

this came prior to the complaints of people sorta meeting each other, but not being able to see each other. here is the article from MMORPG.Com posed on the thread of this forum prior to the news to the complaints of gamers.

No Man's Sky : It's 'Not a Multiplayer Game -- Don't Go Looking for That'

Posted Aug 08, 2016

In a series of Twitter posts, No Man's Sky developer Sean Murray has reiterated that the game is "not a multiplayer game".
He further states that players should not go into it looking for that experience. The comments come on the eve of the PlayStation 4 release of No Man's Sky and within the same week as the PC release (August 12th).
In other posts, Murray stated that, due to the size of the universe, it would be highly improbably that players would run into one another. "Pretty much zero", according to one post. There are features and easter eggs to give players an indication when another is in the universe but that NMS is more about "cool moments" than interaction with others.
This isn't exactly new information, but it is a reminder of what to expect.

People have been extremely confused about No Man's Sky. Speaking about the game on Twitter today, I've had people messaging to say they didn't...

this is a case of just certain people not keeping up with the info sorry to say. cause not all out lets put this up on him saying not to expect this to act like a multiplayer game. it's the age of information. people have to seek this stuff out keep on their own toes. and staying to just one or certain site's you miss something some how.

Mr. Murry did warn people. He did give warning.

People have been pissed about this game for like a year, haha. Do you frequent GameFaqs? Basically any game that comes promising innovation is inherently over-hyped, indie garbage.

I personally have been enjoying the game thoroughly. Learning more about managing my items, which resources are important, and necessary. Getting ready to leave the second planet I've visited.

It kind of reminds me of MGSV, in the way that some people could lose interest in that game easily if you don't enjoy the core gameplay. But crawling around the bushes sneaking up on soldiers has yet to bore me, even after 300 hours and counting. Exploring in this game is just so damn fun I could care less if it's all I'll be doing the next year playing this game.

The info you posted though is a bummer, hopefully that can be worked out, or is already being worked on, as that is something I was really curious about and hoping to see.

Hes also said "yes" multiple times to whether you can see someone or not.

"In other posts, Murray stated that, due to the size of the universe, it would be highly improbably that players would run into one another. "

This is the issue with giving vague answers, you leave yourself open to other people interpreting what this means. This quote implies that its possible, but due to the size improbable. and if its possible regardless of how small the chance, people are going to try to accomplish this. Youtube streamers will fixate on being the first for the views. The size of the universe clearly isnt that enormous or the spawning is bugged. People are finding each others planets on day one and several people have managed to get to the same location to find (not find) each other.

i get that he said its not intended to be a MP experience but why keep giving answers to questions that implies you could encounter someone. Theres a youtube video out there where hes on colbert talking about seeing yourself through another player. Dont bring that stuff up and then tell players they shouldnt go looking for others. I dont think there is a single interview where he flat out says No, there is no multiplayer, you cannot play with someone. Its mixed messages. Frankly he needs to just say its a feature or its not, but i understand they wont because the game hasn't released on PC yet.

On Stephen Colbert's show he specifically said you would be able to see other people.

[YT]ZqeN6hj4dZU[/YT]

Colbert: Do we ever get to see ourselves?

Murray: No. You don’t see yourself, so the only way to know what you look like is for somebody else to, you know, to see you.

Colbert: Can you run into other people, other players in the game?

Murray: Yes, but the chances of that are incredibly rare, just because of the size of what we’re building.

He never contradicted that and is now avoiding the question. Also does he think gamers are stupid? They wouldn't be able to find each other? People love to contradict that kind of stuff day one. :funny:

hmm I think it's two things it's ether there's a bit of bug. or he wasn't expecting for people to start trying to break the game in this way to see what he said was possible so early. he just expected people to just play and enjoy the journey not try and see if they run into each other on purpose from the jump.

now the other thing is . him like peter molynue the former head of the studio that made fable (spelling) and casey hundson (more recently of bio ware )and randy pitchford ( (of boderlands )while they are head's of their stedio's . they have this double duty as sale person and they have this bad habit of over embellishment. and to say yes to thing's they aren't 100% sure of. and they say yes to alot of thing they really shouldn't have said yes to. which always hurt them in the end cause this why v other people the buyer like us are always skeptical of sale people cause this come off as dishonest.

He may not have been trying to mislead. but he did in way. and this case of choose your words more carefully or just being actually more truthful.

in other words they just talk too much . And just want to sell the game. There should more forwardness and they need to be aware of this they've seen other caught withthis mistake . be honest and don't say "{yes "to everything your not sure o, f if you didn't build the game a certain way say so.

Or maybe say hmmm that's a cool feature we might have to add it in or look into that,(and actually do that) if you really didn't already.

again he's more of sale's person then the other dev's like the actual director of game and lead designer anyone lower then the spokes person or head of the studio. you have more honesty from them then you would the spokes person. Depending how that person is.

he severely underestimated gamers. they had to realize that people would make this their number 1 goal even if it wasn't their intention. you can't just make a sandbox game then assume everyone will play how you want them to play.

well no one broke the game, the two players who tried to meet happened to spawn at nearby systems. This was supposed to be incredible rare. Im sure if you saw a nearby named planet you would head there immediately. Maybe (hopefully) it was a server issue that prevented them from seeing eachother but you cant make a sandbox game then dictate how someone plays it.

HG built a game with no rules and no story and no path. If they didnt think a few people were going to make an effort to meet eachother than they were being delusional. As of now they aren't addressing any of the questions being thrown at them from players and gaming sites.

for the record, i think the game is pretty cool and im guessing it'll get much better over time but some straight answers would be nice.

This is just not possible. If you have been around gaming at all, you'd know this is a thing. Something done on day one for nearly every release, more so the big ones. There are YT channels dedicated to it. Come on zenith. Lets not act like Murray is stupid.

Also how would this be "Breaking the game"? Trying to do something they told you, you could do?

I'm having fun with it but I do have to tell myself that there's no real point to it other than explore. Also, the game really tells you nothing. I had no idea I could switch fire modes on my multi-tool by pressing triangle.. I still have no idea what charges my hyperdrive, etc.

All of my planets kind of suck tho. I just landed on one that has some color but everything last night and this morning was grey or red with nothing much on it.

Yep, my buddies and I plan on trying to meet up somewhere tonight...

lol the problem is didn't see it happening. that some would try to prove him wrong and try to meet up. that'son him there ton's challenges like the speed runs.

and in that sense he lied to himself then. as I just said this is about honesty and all that mattered to him atthe time was selling the game. so he's in the same place as peter M and Casey Hudson randy pitchford now.

where people will be watching him like hawk now.

he's just lucky this is still a fun enjoyable game.

I am hoping this is just a early problem they can fix. Though considering the MP talk recently, I don't know how you do that without making this a proper MP.

Personally I have no problem letting a developer like Hello Games work through these kind of kinks.

Not nearly as bad as say, a huge developer like Rockstar delaying multiplayer a month from the sale date of the game to make sure it works properly and then still not having it work properly.

zenith why do you always dismiss this kind of stuff? I am not talking about whether it is a big deal or not, but you seem to be acting like this is okay because he is a pitch man. As if that makes telling falsehoods is okay. Isn't that worse?

if it's bug then he's inthe clear. but if it's not like I said he's where those other three studio head or former studio heads will be in trust of the public or audience. . I hope it's just bug.

As long it isn't game breaking or stops you from playing a part of the game, kinks should be expected. What I am not a fan of is when people don't tell the truth about this stuff. That bothers me more.

I am still considering whether to get this game or not. This isn't helping.

But in HG's case we have no idea if multiplayer is even a feature since they won't give us any information. most of the answers he gives are pretty vague about that MP functions. His form of MP may very well just be named planets and animals.

all of this was supposed to be incredibly rare, that the chances of it ever happening was nearly impossible. Day 1, and people already found each other.

I think what it is important is that you know, if you can see others, why wouldn't you be able to play with each other? He basically suggested something that probably isn't in the game.

and no it's not ok for him to trick people. I'm saying this isn't like it's hasn't happened before in the industry. where someone over sold and just said yes too much.

they will be punished for it accordingly and should be. if their intent was to mislead to begin with.

but there are some that may have not had that intent and just did that for stupid reasons and are in the same boat. and hopefully others should pay attention and not do the same inthe industry.

I just don't like stressing on things. I have enough problems . man mentioned in the NX thread I did have accident and almost had head concussion. lucky for me notthe case but I'm still rattled. I just don't get to this like that any more

Maybe it was my mistake.. But I was always picturing the mp being like destiny.. In a way. Just being able to bump into people on the same planet as you. Not form fire teams, etc.. But if you were there and someone else was as well.. You could run into each other.

Well, once GTAO got through it's growing pains it was phenomenal. At this time, do we know he's lying? Or assuming these two players experience is what will happen to every player, every time?

People have already got to the center of the galaxy. People have been in the same place at the same time. None of this makes it a bad game. The problem is of course how they hyped this game. As Spider-Who mentioned, they basically planted seeds of this huge, interactive world full of possibility and let the fans build up the frenzy while not contradicting it because well the truth might not be pleasing to the ears. It is why most probably have no idea what kind of game they are getting.
