No Man's Sky

The concept is amazing on paper, but I'm definitely waiting on reviews and impressions at the end of the day to see what the general consensus is. This game just feels like it has the writing on the wall of a game with an amazing concept, but one that it can't possibly truly deliver on and become a massive, if ambitious, disappointment. Kind of like this gen's Fable.

I think I have a little more hope than you do Tron, but I'm in the same boat in terms of waiting to see what the general word is. If it pays off, No Man's Sky is going to be a very exciting game, so it'll be worth a bit of an extra wait.

On a personal note, the fact it comes out virtually right in the middle of summer is another reason to hold off -I won't be playing a lot of video games when it's clear skies and sunny out.

It is an open world sandbox game, so it has the same appeal as Minecraft minus the crafting, with superb graphics. The problem I think lies that while Minecraft you enjoy a lot at exploring, it is because of multiplayer interaction. No Man's Sky is reported to start in the middle of nowhere in the galaxy, and unlike to encounter other players.

I'd much rather not encounter other players. I never played Minecraft online and had a blast.

Well, on the bright side, we've already had this gen's Fable in the form of Destiny.

I don't think that Fable is an apt comparison, to be honest. Fable's hype is small in comparison to No Man's Sky. I'm not quite sure how to describe No Man's Sky. Nothing of this scale has ever been promised before by a game.

Hell, I'd say if anything, No Man's Sky is probably more comparable to a hyped up console. If No Mans Sky delivers a half of what is promised, it'll be a revolutionary game. It will do for gaming what Sony Playstation's release did. And if it doesn't deliver, it will be Atari Jaguar or 3DO, a much hyped up but ultimately underwhelming release that couldn't live up to what its developers promised, and thus it'll become a sad foot note of gaming history.

No way, Fable's hype was through the roof when it was first being talked about. It was very similar to No Man's Sky, because they basically promised you could do anything as your character, good or evil, and that the entire landscape of the game would change depending on what you do. None of that really panned out, even the good/evil system wasn't very good or in-depth.

...No. I mean, this is crazy. It has a lot of ambition, but it's not even close to this level.

Hear the first music track from No Man’s Sky

April 8, 2016 22 Comments

Wonder what you’ll be hearing while you’re exploring the near-infinite universe of No Man’s Sky? Work has completed on the soundtrack for the upcoming game, and you can go ahead and sample the first music track right now.

The No Man’s Sky soundtrack was composed and recorded by UK instrumental band 65daysofstatic (no, we didn’t make a typo there). The score will be a blend of original music, soundscapes, and raw audio, totalling 16 tracks. The band is calling it an “overwhelming sonic experience,” so use that as fuel to make whatever jokes you want in the comments.

While the album won’t release until the game does on June 21st, you can pre-order it. The prices range from $12 to $60, depending how deluxe and vinyl you want to go. Oh yes, it’ll be on vinyl. Give the first released track, “Supermoon,” a listen after the jump and let us know what you think!

Surprised they ain't getting in on the VR bandwagon with this.

I have to admit that I'm a bit behind on this game. Still not sure on what this game is about, but some of the basic concepts sound good.

It's not really about anything from what I gather. It's basically a more sophisticated Minecraft really. You go to various places, get materials, meet aliens, visit planets, etc. I think they've said there's a vague goal of getting the center of the universe, but it doesn't seem like it has a traditional narrative around it, at least not one they've detailed at all.

kinda bummed that there is no multiplayer in this game. Kinda think without others this game will get boring fairly quickly.

Yeah. I was getting that kind of impression from what little I had seen. Hopefully it proves to be compelling even without a strong narrative.

I think you can encounter players, but there doesn't seem to be a traditional mp mode. I'm hoping that you're not too isolated though. Wouldn't mind being able to invite friends or clan up and explore together. I think it would be great to have that opportunity to interact with friends and other players without the traditional ruleset of your average mp mode.

Unsurprisingly I'm fine with no multiplayer, but I think you can run into people if you want. They've been pretty vague about it, but my rough understanding is that you all exist in the same universe, as it were, but it's so vast the likelihood of running into someone else is very, very small. I imagine if that's the case you can probably arrange with friends to meet at a certain planet or whatever.

Take all that with a large grain of salt though.

If I ever see anyone else I'll be zipping away in the opposite direction.

Do you need internet to play this game?

Ok cool thanks.

Though it probably makes sense to be online as maybe the broadband expands the universe.

I didn't really have much interest in this game, but after reading more about it and watching more videos, I'm on board now!!

No Man’s Sky will no longer make its previously planned June 21 release dates, sources of Kotaku have said. The game has reportedly been delayed until at least July or August.

One of Kotaku’s sources is a GameStop employee who received marketing materials today for No Man’s Sky with the original June 21 release date. However, the store was informed by corporate the the release date was no longer correct and that it should be covered with a “Coming Soon” label.

The notification reads: “The release date for No Man’s Sky has changed since the provided posters were printed. Please use a coming soon pop-on to cover up the date and communicate as needed your guest about the change of release.”

No Man’s Sky will be available for PlayStation 4 and PC.
