Matt Damon told the press today in Cannes that The Bourne Ultimatum will be his last time to play Jason Bourne, despite the franchise earning hundreds of millions of dollars around the world.

"The 'Bourne' thing I'm definitely done with," Damon said, as he sat in a news conference with co-stars from Ocean's Thirteen, which was being shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Oscar-winner added, though, that the Bourne character may well live on, played by another actor, much like the James Bond series.

The Bourne Ultimatum opens in theaters on August 3.

I love the Bourne movies to death, as I do the character, but I am happy that it is remaining a trilogy. When most franchises think it's OK to become a trilogy, it's pushing it. This is an exception, but this should join the "great trilogy" club. No quadrilogy.

Ludlum wrote Identity, Supremacy, and Ultimatum before he died. There is another one out there, and there is one coming soon, making it 5 books in total.

I think he wrote the first three. But he died soon after and someone wrote a forth based on his notes or something. Its been awhile sense I've looked up anything on the Bourne books though. So I might be wrong.

He only wrote three, and I'd be happy if they end it at Ultimatum, as long as they actually end it.
The Bourne Identity is my favorite film, and I'd like to see the series go on, but if they want to end it at Ultimatum, I would be perfectly happy. I can't see anyone else as Jason Bourne. Without Matt, there is no Bourne.
