No More Bourne for Matt Damon

Just to clarify a bit of the backstory, Robert Ludlum created the original character and did write three books about him. He was working on a fourth story when he died, and his will stipulated that, in his absence, no one was to ever finish it. So, after several years, his estate granted Eric van Lustbader the right to continue the series. Lustbader wrote "The Bourne Legacy" from his own view of the characters, and the forthcoming novel is rumored to be called "The Bourne Trajectory". We'll never know where Ludlum himself intended on taking the series, because of that clause in his will.

Regarding the films, I am looking forward to "Ultimatum", but I was sad to hear Damon's refused to follow up with any more. Hopefully, when they eventually recast, it'll be someone who can bring the same kind of intensity to the role.

weren't there only 3 Bourne books? I understand that the movies aren't terribly faithful (just read the synopsis for Ultimatum and you'll see) so why make more? Time to put a good thing to rest. Hopefully this will be the best of all three.

Any movies after the 3rd one will suck (like in every another franchise, except SW), because after this film, everything goes wrong (director change, cast change, weak script, boring ideas or even problems with the rights). No trilogy is saved from this.

^That'd be cool, but for some reason, I don't want Bourne to become a franchise character in the likes of Bond or Batman.

You guys know we're talking about Daniel Craig's 'Bond' right..?
we are? i was just thinking of Bond in general.

perhaps mark wahlberg could take over.
Whalberg's career is doing pretty ok now, he ought to avoid potential clunkers like what Bourne#4 might become.

they should just give the movies a rest, and really push the books.

Bourne should stay as a trilogy anyways, let's not milk the franchise until it becomes crap now. Hopefully this latest installment will tie up everything nicely.

Atleast i hope he doing The Bourne Legacy.

And then somebody's ele's for The Bourne Betrayal (book 5: Release date in Vs/uk: June 2007.) & The Bourne Trajectory (book 6: Release date in Uk: July 2008)

Pay him 50%-75% more then the first three for part 4,5 and 6 and mabey he wil doing it.

I expect that Mark Whalberg get his own frenchise now with Shooter and i expect a atleast a Shooter 2 and people mabey not accepted frenchise swith with this kind of movie's. Same story for directers, you see that people don't accepted what Lee Tamahori did. First Die Another Day and then Triple X-2.

I haven't read the books,so i don't have any idea how old born is in book 4,5 and 6.
Mabey there should ask Wentworth Miller (Michael Scofield in Prinson Break),Mat Damon is from 1970 and Miller is from 1972.

It's good that Damon wants to end it. I mean, sure they could go on to cash in, but it'd only start to get dull after a while.

If there's only 3 official books, make only three movies.

if they make an oceans 14 and he comes back I will have lost all respect for him.
Bourne is so much more fun for me than the oceans.
I supose i have a bias. I loved the bourne books, and I really didn't like oceans 12.
besides anything with brad pitt just makes me think of those damn trashy magazines in the grocery store checkout line.
I DON'T GIVE A DAMN HOW MANY F'ING KIDS HE AND JOLIE ADOPT FROM STARVING COUNTRIES AND WHO THEY ARE SUPOSEDLY CHEATING WITH!!!!
What Tom and Katy are having a fight. I need to read about that.

But a movie series like Bourne is so much more demanding to its lead actor than a series like the Oceans movies. It makes much more sense that Damon would rather do a (hypothetical) Oceans 14 than a Bourne 4. He carries the entire Bourne movies. It's a real challenge to keep that interesting. While the Oceans are carried by a whole string of actors and the acting required is less intense and serious.

An actor saying he's done with one character after three runs doesn't mean he categorically refuses to do any character more than thrice...

Grow up, that's not Brad Pitt's fault.

no kidding its less serious. did you see oceans 12? Just my opinion but i would rather see him go on to more serious roles rather than make more movies that seem to get less funny and more self gratifying as they go on. I like Damon as an actor and I don't want him to turn into a Pitt or a Clooney

Grow up, that's not Brad Pitt's fault
does not make it any less iritating, and if you could not tell from the tom-kat coment at the end I was half kidding

There only needs to be 3 Bourne movies anyways. 3 books, 3 films. End.

i love both bourne movies -even though im not a fan of matt damon-, but i hope they dont make any more. im not sure they'd be necessary ...

3 Bourne movies.
3 Ocean movies.

Yeah, I don't blame him for wanting to quit.

Good for him. I think the first was a decent spy thriller (if disposable fun) but the secnod was just meh. I think Damon is done.

If I were him I"d also swear off Ocean's movies as well as the second one was terrible and the third doesn't look to be much better. But alas, that won't be.

Somewhat disappointed because the third movie does look great even in this non-stop summer glut of sequels.

I mean c'mon the amount of sequels and third movies for franchises released this summer is ridiculous.

One thing though. How many actors have said the same type of thign Damon has said, "I'm done with this character. I'm never going to play such and such character again." And then several years later, they are playing that character again. I've lost count. MIB2 is a good example.

Matt Damon told the press today in Cannes that The Bourne Ultimatum will be his last time to play Jason Bourne, despite the franchise earning hundreds of millions of dollars around the world.

"The 'Bourne' thing I'm definitely done with," Damon said, as he sat in a news conference with co-stars from Ocean's Thirteen, which was being shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Oscar-winner added, though, that the Bourne character may well live on, played by another actor, much like the James Bond series.

The Bourne Ultimatum opens in theaters on August 3.

I think they should stop with Ultimatum. Make that the last one.

I believe that is called contract negotiating. :yay:

I think Matt is right it s time to move on, I mean it s always the same thing running running away
