Infinity War No More Thanos - The Scarlet Witch Thread

I hope so. But has her brother in the Fox universe even been called Quicksilver? I thought he was always referred to as "Peter".

So if none of the studios are using their names, then what are they doing?

Same thing I've been wondering for quite some time now. It's almost like they're ashamed to use the names on-screen.

Wanda is called "Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch" in the credits rolls at the end. So they've always had the right to use the code name, they just can't find a place where it would actually sound plausible for someone to use it.

Of course they can find places for it. In Top Gun, the pilots frequently referred to each other as Iceman or Goose etc. These were call signs.

On the other hand, if people don't want to use something they won't. In Ang Lee's Hulk, when the military were after him, they could easily have used the designation "Hulk". Instead they thought "Angry Man" sounded more realistic.

Now which sounds more silly? Hulk or Angry Man? Imagine a team up between Iron Man, Spider-Man and Angry Man.

When there are superheroes with the name "__ man", people often think that sounds silly for others to either give that name or the hero to use that name. But now Angry Man sounds more sensible than Hulk?

If they wanted to use Scarlet Witch they would. Just being hidden away in the credits means nothing.

Do you think now the rights have changed Wanda's powers might start getting a bit more magicky?

I don't know if it's to do with that. Don't Marvel have a mandate to keep things more based in science and tech and explainable that way? At least that's what it was before Dr Strange came out. Wanda got her powers before Dr Strange was released. Maybe it will change now?

They're going to have to change this science and tech explanation anyway. With a sorceress X-Men character named Magik, what are they going to call her?

Wanda's magic abilities come from Chthon (who literally describes her as a product of science and magic), and her mutant capabilities have tended to run alongside them as easier to use lower level powers. The mental augmentation from the mind stone could be seen as a substitute for her mutant aspect, providing her with telekinesis and telepathy as base powers.

In Doctor Strange, Mordo explains that human sorcerers use artifacts to take the strain of more powerful magics. Due to her being not entirely human, Wanda can access powerful magic without the need for mystic artifacts. I think she can channel much greater power than human sorcerers.

I think Marvel TV has that mandate, not Marvel Studios. But that in itself is bizarre as Agents of SHIELD season 4 featured the Darkhold, which is just about the most mystical thing in the Marvel universe.

I think her arc is about her becoming Scarlet Witch.

Maybe there is a scene in Infinity War where she talks about the media calling her "Scarlet Witch" derisively, and she later embraces the title as a way of owning the name and not letting people's fear of her define her. Maybe Clint suggests it, to me it seems like he would be the one to do so.

Having the media call her that when she was watching the news in Civil War would've been a good place to sneak that in. We've only had Tony calling her a "little witch" in AOU.

There have been numerous instances where they could've easily slid the code name in but for reasons known only to them they've opted not to thus far.

Maybe she earns the Name now in IW or Avengers 4 , because i dont think she had used her full Powers yet , and after she killed dozens of citizens in Civil War and the airport fight she's now holding them even more back

But the people in Civil War died because she wasn't powerful enough and couldn't contain the blast long enough. Wouldn't that be motivating her to train and get more powerful and learn to control it even better so it doesn't happen again?

Yeah after the more recent issues with superheroes you could see tabloids using that term for her.

In the IW trailer she appears to be sitting up in bed and holding a mug and reading something, so there's a straw for us to grasp onto.

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – WHY SCARLET WITCH IS THE FILM’S MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTER

https://www.wblzmedia.com/2018/01/0...-witch-is-the-films-most-important-character/

With a film so large, it is hard to imagine every character getting their fair share of screen time. We all know Cap and Tony Stark will be heavily featured, being the two biggest household names in the MCU. Obviously, Thanos, the films big bad, will be heavily involved in his quest for the Infinity Stones. So why is it that Wanda Maximoff, better known as the Scarlet Witch, will be the film’s most important character?

Let’s dive a little deeper, shall we?

For starters, let’s take a closer look at her interactions in the first trailer with another character, Vision. In the trailer, the two characters appear to be getting quite close with one another, with Vision even taking on a more human-like form. A romance between the two characters has been speculated on since they both debuted in Avengers: Age of Ultron. These rumors are based on the comic books themselves, in addition to some comments made by actress Elizabeth Olsen.

Oh, and let’s not forget the time photos were leaked from the set of Infinity War that showed Scarlet Witch and Vis locking lips.

Now, the reason we bring up the romance is because of Vision’s role in the film. The character currently possesses the Mind Stone in his forehead, which we know Thanos will be after. As a result, it is pretty likely something bad is going to happen to poor Vision. The stone may simply be ripped from his head. He might be kidnapped in order for Thanos and the Black Order to finally claim the stone. Or worst case scenario, they could kill him off completely.

No matter which of those options comes to light, it’s a good bet to say that this is going to affect Scarlet Witch. There are two ways this could likely play out, both of which will put Scarlet Witch at the center of the story.

Option one sees Scarlet Witch on a mission of revenge. This would be a scary proposition for Thanos, no matter how powerful, because Scar Witch is arguably the most powerful hero on the Avengers’ roster. Why? Because she gained her powers through an Infinity Stone!

It was actually the Mind Stone, while it was still housed in Loki’s staff, that is responsible for giving Wanda her powers. Then we got a glimpse of how she can overpower an Infinity Stone back during Captain America: Civil War. Remember the scene where Hawkeye comes for Wanda, but Vision is there to make sure she does not go anywhere?

Well if you don’t, the scene ended with Scarlet Witch overwhelming Vision, with his Mind Stone turning a red hue. Vision was thrust deep into the Earth’s surface, as Wanda uses her powers to make the Mind Stone almost powerless.

While the Mind Stone is yellow in color, Wanda’s powers always have a red shade to them. Given what we have seen her do, it appears she has some relation to the red Reality Stone. Could this mean she has ties to all six stones? Very possible. So at the end of the day, if she is hell-bent on revenge against the Mad Titan, she will surely be a critical weapon in the Avengers’ arsenal, thrusting her into the spotlight.

Now let’s look at option two. This is an option that would likely break a lot of Marvel fans’ hearts. And that is a return to the dark side. At least for a little bit.

So let’s say they take Vision captive and not kill him. Thanos then recognizes how powerful Scarlet Witch truly is, while she has yet to realize the true extent of her abilities. As a result, Thanos and the Black Order use Vision as a chip to recruit her to their side.

Let’s not forget when we first met Wanda, she was a villain. She has gone through her fair share of heartbreak already and is clearly in a fragile state. She is currently on the run after Steve Rogers broke her out of the Raft. The reason she was in the high-security prison, Tony Stark. It just so happens she has never been a fan of Tony’s. So she might be out for revenge against him.

If Thanos tells her she can be with Vision and get her revenge on the Iron Man if she comes and joins his side, she very well may jump at the opportunity. One other possible bargaining chip that Thanos might use is utilizing the Time Stone to bring back her brother, Quicksilver, who died during the battle of Sokovia.

Pitting Wanda against her former allies, with the potential of her killing some of them off, is an interesting possibility. It might even result in the writers her off as well.

There are so many possibilities for Scarlet Witch when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters. But no matter what direction Marvel takes, there is no denying Scarlet Witch will play a key role.

I really hope they don't go with the above theory. I don't want to see her go against the Avengers. I feel she learned a valuable lesson where wanting revenge gets her with Sokovia and Ultron. We don't need to do that again.

Yeah, it would be total out-of-character if she fight against Hawkeye or Captain America at this Point. The villain-plot is gone. Only Thing I can see is a double agent from her.

I can't even see that, she barely wanted to betray Vision. :funny:
