Infinity War No More Thanos - The Scarlet Witch Thread

I think those are the writers assumptions, which I wouldn't mind. Didn't see any direct quotes to confirm them.

It's nonsense. There's no mention of Captain Marvel.

Agreed. I highly doubt a solo movie for SW & Vision ever materializes, much less be considered as an actual prospect to take on.

What would it even be about?

It'd be a remake of Yours, Mine & Ours but with imaginary children.

As much as I'd love a Scarlet Witch centered movie, I doubt they'd actually make one.

People thought that about Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man, though.

The Vision & Scarlet Witch comics and Tom King's Vision provide ample source material.

You can't do a romantic comedy, as Wanda is too stoic a character for that, but you could do a kind of drama with light moments. The villain would have to be Chthon, Kang, or Master Pandemonium, they are the only ones who would fit.

No imaginary kids as that was a dumb storyline. Just leave any of the nonsense written by Byrne or Bendis in the bin, frankly.

The difference, though, is GOTG and Ant-Man have far more viable stories that can be told around them. And it actually made sense for them to have their movies.

It makes no sense to give Vision and Wanda their own movie and it's too risky a move for them to even try it.

I think that Wanda and Vision will have a love story in Infinity War, and if audiences like it then Marvel will give them a spinoff film together.

Joss Whedon gets lots of hate for ‘ruining’ Wanda and Pietro’s heritage in Avengers: AoU, but as someone from Eastern Europe I think he did a pretty good job in telling a modern story about two young people from my region. I loved how Whedon made them anti-war activists, how he managed to show the fear and the hate people of Eastern Europe feel towards USA. It may sound strange to many tumblr users, but in some ways the USA is pretty hated here. And I don’t mean the American pop culture – we live and breathe American pop culture, we watch every superhero movie on opening night, we discuss the new episode of Game of Thrones all week long, we listen to Beyoncé and Adele non-stop. But most people in my region absolutely hate the USA politics. The USA foreign policy is seen as extremely aggressive and people here view the USA army as the enemy. Historically, my own city has been bombarded by the USA air-force. I was about 8 years old when my parents were frequently going to anti-war protest, I helped them paint their signs that said “USA, go away from the Balkans!”.
So it was amazing for me to see all that in Wanda and Pietro. The scene when Pietro was talking about the Stark shell in their home made me cry like a baby, right there in the cinema. (And it also explains why Wanda would never, ever, ever, ever, in a million years, be #TeamStark). In AoU Wanda and Pietro were so angry, so desperate to save their ruined country that they were ready to sign up for horrific experiments in order to have the powers to actually do something for their people. I can relate to that. Every young person from my country who actually gives a damn can relate to that.
For me Joss Whedon didn’t ruin Wanda and Pietro’s heritage. He used them to tell a great modern story about two young people from Eastern Europe. And I love him for that.

Thanks for this post, it's a different and refreshing viewpoint.

Like I said before, it's a shame most of the responses to that post are "no, they whitewashed them and took away their romani/jewish backgrounds"

The way Pietro and Wanda have been handled in the MCU is definitely not a case of whitewashing.

And are those same people complaining about Evan Peters being Quicksilver in the X-Men franchise?

Oh, double standards...how I love you so. :o

Yeah, that sounds more like something that Warner Bros would do. :sly:

Nope because Evan Peters still got to be Magneto's kid. :funny:

Here is a proposal for a Scarlet Witch and Vision movie:
http://www.geeksgamers.com/movies/14-opinion/622-pitching-my-ideal-marvel-film.html

The movie I most want to see within the landscape of superhero cinema is a date movie between Scarlet Witch and Vision. But not just any date movie; rather I would love to see a film between these two characters modeled after Richard Linklater’s Before trilogy, specifically Before Sunrise, where it chronicles the first proper date between Vision and Scarlet Witch. Other movies have tackled a very similar concept, such as Southside with You and Medicine for Melancholy, where it follows two people for a day and we truly get to know who these characters are through their interactions, and this very niche subset of films might be my favorite type of film that exists.

Here’s the thing. Vision, to me at least, is one of the most fascinating aspects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A character forced to imitate life because he will never experience what it feels like to truly be alive. In Age of Ultron he sees Thor and gives himself a cape in an act of trying to be more human, and then in the sequel we see him try to be more of a civilian, where his wardrobe is more in line with Tony Stark. He tries cooking for Scarlet Witch even though he himself has never been able to taste anything. He wants to understand what it means to be human, yet the tragedy of the character is that he will never understand what makes us, us, because through his analytical android mind, the way he perceives the world is so inherently different than the way human beings do. How can somebody know what love is without being able to experience it themselves?
*
The genius aspect of a character like Vision is that he is left to imitate life because he cannot experience it himself, and yet, when he tells Tony Stark that he did not know he could get distracted in Civil War, that right there left open this door to further explore the humanity within Vision, and whether he could evolve into being able to feel what we feel. And Scarlet Witch is the perfect character for him to share this connection with, because she is not exactly sure about the humanity within herself either. Is she a weapon, or something more?
*
Scarlet Witch is a science experiment, and that experiment turned her into one of the most dangerous weapons on the planet, and the struggle found within this character is whether it’s her power that defines her, or if she's more than what was done to her. As Vision said in Civil War, he wants the others to look at her as he does. There is an inherent struggle within these two characters that deserves to be explored in more intimate detail, away from the confines of a blockbuster, where spectacle is king, and characters like Vision and Scarlet Witch don’t necessarily get their due. There is so much thematic depth and untapped potential for these two characters, and simply setting them up on a date in order to further explore what defines them feels like the perfect opportunity for Marvel to redefine the parameters that currently define the superhero genre.
*
This movie needs to take place after Infinity War, when everything is a bit more calm and relaxed and they would actually have the time to be able to go on a date. They have been through so much, have come to care for each other so deeply, yet have never even had a first date? It’s a brilliant move where they could start off the movie with Vision rehearsing what he will ask her, and him trying to imitate humanity by looking up YouTube videos, or asking his fellow Avengers about how to ask out a girl, and the parameters of a first date, and from there we just follow these two out on a date, taking up the entire day as they explore New York city and have musings about their life, the superhero world and, more importantly, their identity. These are two characters who have this insecurity built into who they are, not quite sure about what defines them, and I would love to see them explore that together. Vision was able to be distracted in Civil War, which brought him a step closer to humanity in a profound way, and it was his affection for Scarlet Witch that distracted him. So, as we explore the character of Vision, is it possible for that ability to be distracted to snowball into him feeling emotion, and him growing his connection to our world? This is one of the most profoundly beautiful couples within the superhero genre because of what they represent to one another. Scarlet Witch is a metaphorical representation of Vision’s humanity, while Vision is able to look at Scarlet Witch and see the human being that she is instead of the explosive power within her. And the irony is that they aren’t even a real couple.

So far, the philosophical aspect of the Vision character has been only hinted at, and while I’ve been able to extract more from it than maybe it deserves because I enjoy looking into this kind of thing, a movie modeled after Linklater’s masterpiece chronicling the first date between Vision and Scarlet Witch could be an intellectually rich, philosophically challenging film about two forms of life connecting on an intimate level, and how that connection defines each character. It is a film that will be a very low budget character piece, and on that shoe string budget that a film like this needs, it will make more than enough money to be deemed a success, especially with the Marvel brand backing it. This will not only redefine the parameters that define a Marvel film, but it will redefine what it means to be a superhero movie. No villains. No action set pieces. No spectacle. Simply two characters given the opportunity to form a connection, and through that connection we will intricately explore who these characters are.*

Your post is one of the most thoughtful and fascinating I have ever seen on this board.

Really thought-provoking and makes me hope for a Wanda and Vision movie.

Since Marvel won't do this, I expect you to write a fan fic about this and share it here. :funny:

I love that Aaron and Lizzie are friends in real life.

Please let Pietro have some sort of cameo in IW, even if it's just a vision/dream from Wanda.
