The latest effort to bring back Indiana Jones appears doomed, according to writer-director Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption). Darabont told a movie website that focuses on films in development that although Steven Spielberg had praised his script for Indiana Jones 4 as "the best draft of anything since Raiders of the Lost Ark, " his excitement was not shared by fellow producer George Lucas. In the interview with Devin Faraci of CHUD.com, Darabont said Spielberg's praise "gave me a real sense of accomplishment, especially when you love the material you're working on as much as I love the Indiana Jones films. And then you have George Lucas read it and say, 'Yeah, I don't think so, I don't like it.' And then he resets it to zero." Asked whether he believes Indy 4 will ever be filmed, Darabont replied, "I don't think so. ... I just think it's fantastically bizarre that for a project that people have been trying to crack for ten years and have a writer come in and finally crack it and then ... [for Lucas to] say, 'No, I don't think so...' It's just bizarre to me. I can't get into George's head."

Looks like Indy 4 may or may not get made...I hate this roller coast:cmad:

must've been a great script. it figures that Lucas didn't like it. must've had some of those annoying things like plot and character development, y'know, the kind of stuff that gets in the way of the cool effects.

I would love to read....if Steven liked it and compared it to ROTLA then it must be good....I feel for Frank.

I wholeheartedly agree! :D

Yeah, if Spielberg liked it, it must've ben good.
I don't care about Lucas's final say. We got his final say on Episodes I-III and look what we got.

:whatever:

Im kinda glad this is looking like its never going to happen.
Just leave the series at 3 please.

I actually feel for Steven, who, if this project ever gets off the ground, is going to have to direct a script he's not fond of, and Harrison, whose carreer is going to depend on a shoddy script being forced down the director's throat.

and of course, all of us, for having to see Indy say goodbye in a very bitter (but not sweet) way, because I highly doubt that a good movie can come out of this debacle.

maybe we should all do some fan scripts and send them in in the hopes he'll like one of them. but then again, we probably couldnt write engaging dialogue like "meesuh jar jar bink, meesuh say 'ow wude."

Why? If Star Wars can get 6 movies why can't Indy end with 4?

LOL....ok Im not bashing GL here but me think he is on his high horse again.

At this point, I just think Lucas doesnt want to do the damn movie anymore.

this is pathetic.. Lucas turning down DARABONT??? LOOOOL... I don't give a damn bloody hell who Lucas is... he's a businessman at best... certainly no where NEAR the level of Talent that Darabont is. Star Wars were great, fine and dandy and some of my fav films growing up... but seriously, I just find the talent behind the Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption to be so much more powerful than whatever the **** this businessman could ever say

I suspect you're right. He's never really shown much enthusiasm for this project.

Ummm...Spielberg has done some crap. Not saying the script wasn't good, but to say that Spielberg's opinion is like Smuckers and has to be good is wrong.

Eh, it just feels like they are forcing it now.

That's because Lucas no longer needs a tangible script. He would prefer it to be CGI-ed. That way, we can have an all-CGI Indy flipping through the air and delivering drop kicks to CommuNazi Robots.

i thought part 3 ended the Indy series well.

Also, I hated the prequels, so to me Star Wars still began and ended in 77 thru 83.

Yeah! CGI-hat and whip!

Why assume this new draft MUST be good simply because Spielberg likes it? Spielberg also liked the scripts for 1941, Hook, and The Lost World.

Lucas just DOESN'T WANT INDY 4 to be made (and I agree with him). He's said many times he's only doing it because Spielberg and Ford are for it.

It's ridiculous how some people criticise Lucas and make out he shouldn't be involved with the series, when he's the co-creator of Indy in the first placeand as responsible for it's success as anyone.

Sure, Lucas wrote (with help) Episodes I-III, he also wrote Episodes IV-VI (with help).

I can see it now...Lucas looks at it:
"Hrm....naa. What if....what if we added a child actor in as Indiana Jones sidekick. And then replace the Nazi's with CGI characters...something fuzzy. You know...so when the kids watch it they want to buy the plush dolls. Also, let's have a romance scene where Indiana and a woman and reciting poetry to each other and standing on a submarine.

Let's also add fun polka music to the battle scenes so we don't feel it's too dark and serious"

So what you're saying that we shouldn't 'project' the blame onto Lucas, right?

I'm not a fanboy or anything, but I just dig Lucas NOW. Yeah, I liked him when he was younger...and sane!

(The following is not intended for you Kevin, so don't be offended. It's just a very broad genralization)

It's almost like the argument that X3 was underwhelming b/c of Singer not because of Fox or Ratner. Huh?

That's that the type of weird logic and off-the-wall copouts that I can only see online on message board.
