Evidently it would seem so. Raimi does NOT get spider-man, if he did we wouldn't have 3 movies with botched characterizations. Look at the 90s animated series, they didn't exactly rip storylines from the comics but for the most part, the stories worked, primarily because they had the characterizations locked down. Even the 1st spider-man game on the psx, storywise is arguably the best spider-man game ever made and again because who ever wrote the script for that game knew what they were doing and knew what spider-man was about. The story was original, inspired by the comics and most noticeably, they got the characters right. Every character in Raimi's spider-man movies are lacking and only show one aspect of their true habitual character and that is what ultimately ruins these films. The people who worked on the 90s TAS and spider-man 1 on the psx knew the characters and made it work for the media they're working in. Raimi failed simply because he just didn't get a handle on the nature of these characters he was using. As for Marvel and them liking changes, it makes no difference. Hiring a writer is what it is. It is up to the writer to tell his story of what he thinks is spider-man. If it is accurate enough to match the characters from the comics, that is fantastic, hopefully we'll get these characters in an awesome story. If not, I and others will be here announcing our disapproval and disappointments. Its not a hard concept to understand where I and others are coming from. Season 1 of the 90s TAS is far superior to anything Raimi has done with the characters and that cartoon came up with their own stories but again, they succeeded in capturing the aesthetics of the characters. So, until a writer/director can get a handle on exactly how these characters should be, the spidey movies may make tonnes of dough but to some fans that really do care, they'll continue to suck. P.S. There's a reason why shows like spider-man unlimited and even the MTV series only had one season...go figure it out if you still don't know.
