Sequels No Sam Raimi for Spider-Man 4?

You. Don't. Know. Anything.

I.Am.Putting.You.On.Ignore. So don't bother attacking on my opinions for no apparent reason just because you don't agree with them. I won't be hearing it. Have a nice day.

They're not trying to get everyone to forget about the first three. Why would they when the first three has made billions of dollars worldwide. Spider-Man 4 is a sequel, not another origin.

Who said anything about another origin movie? I just get the Batman vibe when a studio recasts the leads and goes ahead with a sequel so soon. I'd just prefer they wait a few years before doing another one considering SM3 left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths.

Well apparently Sam Raimi is now going to direct a series of Jack Ryan movies so it looks more likely that he may not be back.

Its on Rotten Tomatoes btw, too lazy to go back and link.

It's not about a difference of opinion, it's about you being factually incorrect. You're constantly throwing numbers around as if you actually know something about the process (which, as your sig makes evident, you clearly don't) but you're really just talking out of your ass.

They are not waiting anymore than 3 to 4 years tops to make SM4 (I'm thinking 3 since they have a screenwriter writing the script). Sony can't wait too long, or Spider-Man's movie rights will revert back to Marvel (see below), Sony ain't letting that sh:t happen. You don't wanna see another Spidey film so soon, fine, but personally, I can't wait and neither can SONY:

Marvel Entertainment’s Peter Cuneo presented at Raymond James 28th Annual Institutional Investors Conference, and gave updates about Marvel’s film rights and the X-Men franchise.

“All of our film deals with studio partners allow them to continue to have the rights as long as they make the sequels within a prescribed time frame. That time frame varies from deal to deal. If they don’ t make the sequel, then the rights revert back to Marvel.” said Cuneo. “You do sometimes hear the studios saying this is the last of the ‘blank’ films — in our case that’s probably unlikely if a successful franchise. I certainly would include X-Men, probably Fantastic Four and that’s with Fox. “

Well we'll have to see what happens. Because if that's the case then there might be four or more Marvel films in the same year. I personally don't want that. Frankly I don't think Marvel would want properties competing against one another. Even though they don't make a penny for the Spiderman films, its just stupid to overload one year like that. Its bad business in the long run. But a lot can happen between now and then. Maybe Iron Man and Hulk flop and Marvel studios decides to shelve the rest of their properties. Maybe Wolverine does bad and Fox decided to shelve their X-Men property. Maybe they scrap FF3 all together... I don't know. But until those things happen... I don't think it would be wise for even Sony to continously shove SM movies down the public's throat every three years and expect 800 million in returns every time.

Looks that way. And considering the first one is set for release in the summer of 2010, that all but guarantees that Raimi won't be directing SM4.

That could explain why there's been such a drought of SM4 news--they're looking for a new director (and probably new cast).

And the screenplay is being written. The writer's strike ended like two months ago. That guy they hired is busy writing the script. I think that by summer time we'll some news.

it sure did :csad:

i hope so

Yeah, but the change of casting for the batman movies was not what ruined it. It was the writing and execution, and cheesiness that made them terrible.

Its not only that... if they wait three years... expectations are still off the charts... the more time you wait the lower the expectations fall... I don't want another director coming in there trying to duplicate the success of the first three films so soon. Plus the public is not exactly dying for Spiderman sequels other than the fanboys... even most of us are dying for just Lizard and don't really care too much about the rest. If Tobey, Raimi, and everyone else were coming back then I'd be all for getting SM4 out as soon as possible. Where are they going after Lizard anyway? Mysterio? Electro? All B villains... and is Peter Parker's life just so interesting that people need three more films about him? Aunt May's death? Gwen Stacey love triangle? Not so compelling that we need another trilogy. That's why they need to reinvent the franchise when the time comes. New cast, new director, new characters, new relationships. That's why I want to see them go in a different direction but I think its better to wait some time before doing that.

And again, how are you gauging this? What is the basis for any of these claims that you have made?

I've talked to numerous people who weren't fans of ANY superhero and they said they couldn't wait for SM4 to come out. They thought the movies were brilliant and entertaining. I really don't see where he got that the public wasn't dying to see more movies.

All my friends really liked SM3 and they always ask (knowing that I'm a movie/comic geek) when SM4 is coming out. And I tell them that it's still up in the air and they get all pissed.

Whether you like it or not, the general public (which I'd like to say is 75% of the audiences) thoroughly enjoyed the Spider-Man trilogy. I want an SM4. Same cast, same director, same everything.

I wouldn't mind seeing everyone come back, but I would also like to see new people for three movies.

Damn! Well, I still hope he returns, but if not, I hope they find someone with alot of passion for the character just like Sam Raimi.

That doesn't mean he won't be directing anymore Spidey films. I mean, he has such passion for the character and he's even stated himself that he would love to return.

That doesn't matter. Freddy Prinz JR loves spidey and knows more about spidey than Tobey does and even wanted the role but did that come to pass? Hell no. Raimi has had his 3 movies. His schedule for his next projects are already in conflict with him having a remote chance of directing spider-man 4. You need to realize that there are other directors and actors that have a passion for brining spider-man to life and could do a much better job than what has already been done.

First two Spider-Man movies are great but the third... not so much! So I think it's good if Raimi won't direct SM4. I wanna see something 'fresh'.

None of my friends liked SM3.

Of course the trilogy as a whole is enjoyable... but SM3 was a let downs in a lot of people's eyes. And if the public is expecting the same everything then they are more than likely going to be disappointed... because we could be looking at major changes. Not saying people won't still see the movie with a new cast... they did go see Batman Forever. I just think people would probably prefer maybe one more flick with the same cast. I honestly don't expect they are desperately dying for three more Spiderman movies. The interest level drops dramatically once you change the leads.

Personally, I want SM4 to be different from all three of its previous films, yet keep its continuity intact. Different style, different feel, better dialogue, acting, action scenes, etc. That's what really matters, I want something different from what we've already seen in these films. New vision and direction. People are not going to give a damn if its the same cast or different if you deliver a movie that's better than all three films, which really isn't that hard to do. But you need to bring in different and better creative ideas, people who want to do something that goes beyond your basic generic icon comic book film.

Well Chris Evans basically confirmed that FF3 is unlikely to happen earlier today... so I guess Sony can lock up a 2010 release date after all. Still a ways to go... JLA might get pushed back with the way things are going... Silver Surfer is on the verge of having a working script... MOS might get back on the fast track but we've been saying that for a year now. SM4 is probably the furtherst along than the latter two of those three though, I'll admit that at least.

Yeah, because Sony was going to delay one of their best-selling franchises out of fear of Fantastic Four. :whatever:

I know man; most of the people i work with dont read comics, yet LOVED sm3 and are always asking me when the next one is coming out (im kind of known as the "Spidey Guy" at work. :word: )...
