Hey,
Is there anything out there either comic or novel that deals with the Joker before or after TDK? I realize that there is probably nothing for after as they wouldnt want anyone to mess that up too soon. But how about before. I also realize that maybe it wont be as exciting cause he was kinda laying low compared to what he did in the Movie.
Anyone?

Why in the world would you want to know anything about the Joker's past? The whole reason that he's so cool in this film is that we have no idea who he is, and where he came from? He's just a sort of chaos demon that materialized in Gotham.

That has got to be one of the ....... things i have heard in a long while.

Its true, most fans in general would prefer to have no origin story for the joker than fabricating one that tries to fit into TDK and has nothing to do with the comics. If you really want a joker origin story then read the killing joke.

Well, since odds are nothing has been written in reference to where the Joker comes from in TDK... we can't be certain... but we can rationalize, ourselves as to what few clues we have.

Since they have no record of him... prints nor DNA... then its safe to assume he's managed to stay off the grid; never being arrested in the US and never holding a federal job.

He also seems to have quite the connection with Arkam's former 'patients'... which could be simply explained away as perhaps already being in contact with an Arkam employee (Harley Quinn).

Also, the scars... which the Joker doesn't care to fit whatever story as to their origin, are similar to what's known as a Chelsea Grin or Glasgow Smile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasgow_smile). With that fact alone... I would surmise that he was an American born and raised (through his accent) but may have got his criminal start with gangs overseas, where he gained his sense of humor along with his 'smile'... perhaps he got his taste for the cheap stuff, bullets and gasoline from some work with the IRA? He seems know his way around guns and explosives well enough... as well as planning all of these 'attacks' which are very similiar to the way insurgencies are operated.

Yeah see thats the kind of thing a novel could go into. It can be cannon or not. But I for one would like to know about this jokers origins. Even if they probably wouldnt be as exciting as TDK...

If anything I'd like to read a story (comic or novel) where a detective, team of people, or heck even Batman try to solve the Joker's origin's and past life coming up with several theories but in the end nothing conclusive. Similar to that one Black & White Alex Ross story from years back.

this thread subject gave me a good laugh, for real it really did.
