Obama, Edwards, and Clinton talk about their faith.

I thought carpetbagger wasn't necessarily a negative appelation, and was typically used to describe fresh-faced upstarts trapped in a world they never made. I guess that's why I'm not a politician...

Carpetbaggers were Northerners who moved to the South and took control of the South with the freedmen and scalawags. Politically and economically. Yeah, they were upstarts, but they moved to the South on their own free will for their own personal benefit.

Clinton is just the same. She's from freaking Illinois and Arkansas. She never even lived in New York State. She took the seat because it's easy for a Democrat to win in New York, she's a Clinton, she was First Lady, and she could use it to build up a career in which she can become President. She did it for her personal benefit, not to serve New York. She's the same as the carpetbaggers who moved to the South during Reconstruction, thus she deserves to be called one.

I thought she lived in New York at some point in time, however brief it was.:o

No. He just uses it to rally the evangellicals to vote for him. I'm not a neo-con dolt you ass :o

At least Bush stayed in Texas and has lived there for quite sometime before he became governor. Clinton never even lived in New York and just took a Senate seat that should have gone to a New Yorker. But this isn't about Bush, who I don't care for in the first place. This is about Clinton, the prime example of carpetbagging still in American politics

Your the ass, you ass. (see, I can name call like a insecure 5th grader too)

You claim you're bi-partisan but you bash democrats far more aggressively and passionately than any Republican. Even more hypocritical you slam Hilary Clinton for carpetbagging and vent pure hatred for the woman despite the fact that Bush is worse. You say Bush lived in Texas for a while before he became governor. What your dumbass failed to notice was that Dubya ran for office the same year he moved to Texas. The same freaking year!!! That fits the definition of carpetbagger far more than Hilary Clinton.

And if your bashing her for seeking office in NY just ****. It's not huge deal. New Yorkers didn't have a problem with it. She won the NY senate seat twice by a significant margin. Get over it.

I'm calling you an ass because you act are acting like one. You treat anyone who isn't left winged as an automatic neo-con Bush humper.

The only Democrats I really have a problem with are Nancy Pelosi for using Congress just to make Bush look like an even bigger ******* than he already is and Hillary Clinton for being a carpetbagging *****. Most of the Republicans I didn't like are currently out of a job thanks to the American people who voted them out (like Rick Santorum and Tom DeLay).

By the way, I've never voted Republican despite being one :hyper:. Voted Spitzer and Massa, both Democrat.

Bush moved to Texas in 1977. He ran for Congress and lost in 1978 a year after he moved to Texas. At least he was a f**king resident of Texas even though he was for a short time and went just for oil. It's lame but Hillary is worse. She didn't even live at New York AT ALL.

And if your bashing her for seeking office in NY just ****. It's not huge deal. New Yorkers didn't have a problem with it. She won the NY senate seat twice by a significant margin. Get over it.
There are New Yorkers who are annoyed by it.

Clinton won an easy victory because New York is a Democratic state. Her last name and her time as First Lady. And she went up against a no name Republican (compared to a big name Democrat).

The second time she won can also be attributed to the very same reasons along the unpopularity of the Republican Party as a whole due to scandal and George W. Bush, there was no hope for a Republican victory AT ALL, an even larger funds chest, and the complete incompetence of the New York Republicans. They focused so much to defeat Hillary that they completely forgot to come up with a candidate and a platform in the process.

Um... Sorry? Crap, I was being facetious, bro.
I'm cool with atheists, it just seems a little wierd when someone brings their atheism up unprovoked. And I guess Buddhism is a form of atheism... But nobody would want a President who's all peaceful and shut all the time.

i brought it up as a joke, but it's not like it's something i'm ashamed of, so i'm not going to avoid the topic.

Who cares if Bush lived there for a few months before he ran? He moved to Texas a few months then ran for office. Are you saying if Hilary lived in New York for a few months she wouldn't be a carpetbagger?

Bush is a carpetbagger but you don't even care because you are just looking for reasons to bash and mindlessly hate Hillary Clinton. Total hypocrisy.

There was poll that asked New Yorkers cared about the "carpetbagging" issue. Two-thirds said it was a non-issue. It's a ******ed reason to oppose a candidate anyway. It came from racist ex-confederates who believed "the south will rise again". Why would New Yorkers share this narrow-minded xenophobic mindset?

Bush won in 2000 for the same reasons. Who cares?

The point is carpetbagging was a non-issue for most New Yorkers or Hillary would've lost. Period.

New Yorkers don't care about "carpetbagging". Maybe they understand where and how the word originated. It's an outdated term for good old boys(you aint from around these parts, is you boy?). It's a knee-jerk xenophobia created by Yankee-hating confederates after the Civil War to keep freed blacks powerless.

Go Yankees!

They're both carpetbagging assclowns.

Carpetbagging is an issue not just for racists. If you don't know the community, their specific needs and concerns then how can you be an effective "representative" of them? Now you might say most issues are just common sense but that's extremely oversimplifing the matter. In florida alone (insert florida joke now) the plant blights alone are extremely complex with no easy answer, it's area specific and has people on both sides of how to handle it.

New York didn't care about this because Hillary is famous, she was running in an overwhelmingly liberal state and she had enough money and political power to make this happen. The voters had neither a choice or chance.

Personally I don't think someone should be able to run for government in a state until they've lived there at least five years. That would force them to actually meet some of the people they wish to represent.

Exactly.

Obama says some have 'hijacked' faith

HARTFORD, Conn. - Sen. Barack Obama told a church convention Saturday that some right-wing evangelical leaders have exploited and politicized religious beliefs in an effort to sow division.

"Somehow, somewhere along the way, faith stopped being used to bring us together and faith started being used to drive us apart," the Democratic presidential candidate said in a 30-minute speech before the national meeting of the United Church of Christ.

"Faith got hijacked, partly because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, all too eager to exploit what divides us," the Illinois senator said.

"At every opportunity, they've told evangelical Christians that Democrats disrespect their values and dislike their church, while suggesting to the rest of the country that religious Americans care only about issues like abortion and gay marriage, school prayer and intelligent design," according to an advance copy of his speech.

"There was even a time when the Christian Coalition determined that its number one legislative priority was tax cuts for the rich," Obama said. "I don't know what Bible they're reading, but it doesn't jibe with my version."

A call to the Washington, D.C.-based Christian Coalition of America seeking comment was not immediately returned Saturday.

Obama is a member of the United Church of Christ, a church of about 1.2 million members that is considered one the most liberal of the mainline Protestant groups.

In 1972, the church was the first to ordain an openly gay man. Two years ago, the church endorsed same-sex marriage, the largest Christian denomination to do so. Obama believes that states should decide whether to allow gay marriage, and he opposes a constitutional amendment against it.

Conservative Christian bloggers have linked Obama to what they call the "unbiblical" teachings of his church. Theological conservatives believe gay relationships violate Scripture, while more liberal Christians emphasize the Bible's social justice teachings.

Obama trails Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York by 33 percent to 21 percent in the most recent Associated Press-Ipsos poll among Democrats and those leaning toward the party.

And carpetbagger is a hatespeech term used to insult lesbians.

And again, you've amazed all of us with your remarkable intellect.

To review your principal viewpoints:

1. All Republicans are evil.
2. All Democrats are good.
3. "1 < 2" is a false statement since it means that 1 is greater than 2.
4. "Carpetbagger" is a derogatory term for lesbians.

No matter how unintelligent President Bush seems, you, sir, have neither the means nor the credibility to mock or criticize him; you are as foolish and close-minded as he is.

To be fair to Spider-Bite, he doesn't think that all Republicans are evil.
