I just want a Spidey that makes me crack up like the Spidey in the comics always made me do.

While I agree he should use more brains to match his brawn in the movies, I don't see what more he could have done in the Ock situation. They were in a warehouse.

He had to stop Ock and the reactor. To get to the reactor, he had to get thru Ock. And save MJ.

Electrocuting him was the ONLY thing to do. The power cable was right there, and Spidey was about to get stabbed.

And with Norman, he was down, but not out. Spidey had him beaten physically. It's why he pulled the sly stunt with the glider. He knew Peter had him cornered.

Exactly, he is never put in a situation where he has to out think his opponents. For some reason the films have been written that way.

Alot of Spidey's tricks can stop alot of people.

Yes but for super villians it would be nice to see him approaching them differently. Like Hydro Man, he mixed some form of coagulant into his webbing and it caused Hydro Man to get "stuck".

Well, I think in the water incident, he's not trying to subdue Sandman. He's trying to kill him. He's symbiote Spidey then, and is mega pissed about the Uncle Ben thing..Sandman looks like he's in real pain in that water.

Sorry I should have possibly explained. Yes the water incident is meant to kill Sandy, I only said subdued as we know it doesn't kill him.

No, I'm saying all Spidey needs is to beat down Venom somehow. He doesn't need to confront him as a person, or reason with him etc like he did with Norman, Otto, and probably will with Flint Marko and Harry, too.

Brock is really nothing to him. He's just going to take him down somehow. And that will be that.

Ah but something tells me he will. Like (sorry to keep bringing it up) in TAS when he sees Eddie and the symbiote have bonded he tries to convince Eddie to get rid of it "it doesn't just bond with you it takes you, makes you do what it wants. You've got to seperate from it". I do think when Venom reveals himself to be Eddie, Spidey will try to reach him...but Venom is far to an angry being to listen and so decides to batter Spidey instead. YAY.

Spidey has always been one to try and reason. I mean in SM1 when Norman is begging to spare him, I get the notion that if he didnt try and impale him with the glider. That he would try and help him. I mean my point of view is that its not really Brocks fault, the symbiote is just fueling his rage. Im thinking Spidey will try and reason with the Brock side, but after that fails the gloves are off.

What I'm wondering is....how does Venom reveal to Spidey that Brock is his host?
and as far as Spidey using his intellect...
I think its going to come down to some of Harry's hi-tech weaponry, and Peter giving Harry the heads up to use it. Thats to detach it from Brock. I have this feeling that the symbiote is going to end up in fast drying concrete or something like that. I mean in TAS it was conveinantly shuved on a rocket. I dont see any rockets in the preview. In the comics it was seperated by the Scarlet Spider and a branch of shield took it away. I hope we dont see SHIELD in the movie. So im interested to see where it ends up. Sorry if i rambled.

I'm thinking that spidey goes to the construction site and finds Brock there. and like in TAS spidey asks Brock what he's doing there and then he turns into venom and the battle begins. Now I think Harry will have soe part in defeating venom but I don't think it will be a huge one. I just wonder how spidey will get the symbiote off brock, maybe fire from harry throwing a pumpkin bomb or something. Sound vibration could be the key to defeating venom but I'm sure there are other ways.

Good point, I cant wait to see that on the screen. The cab, the black webs....Spidey arrives. Brocks just sitting there...chillin like a villain.

I think it will be more of a case of Spidey seeing Eddie first as opposed to Venom. Surprised Spidey begings to question him and asks him what is he doing with MJ and more importantly whose webbing is strewn around the place? Eddie now has the perfect chance to reveal all. He can tell Spidey he knows he is Pete and then begin to talk about all of his injustices. Then for the climax..."We hate you that much Pete that I even went to God to ask him to kill you. Rather than killing you himself though he decided to give me the power to do so. Allow us to introduce ourselves as....(transforms) VENOM".

S.H.I.E.L.D will not make an appearence but I have no idea what will happen to the symbiote after it is seperated from Brock.

The softy repeat speech about "Giving up the things we want the most" was a smart move, because it worked and Spidey didn't even have to lift a finger after that. He persuaded Doc Ock, who is much older and wiser/smarter than Peter to do it. I would classify that as smarts.

I guess but he just stole the speech from Aunt May. Also Ock led him in to saying it..."it was my dream"...then Spidey plagerises Aunt May (hey she should actually have the credit not Pete).

I dunno', I think Spidey's done quite a few clever things during fights, like web the goblin's face and then rip open his glider's parts to throw him off course, or the webbing of Doc Ock's tentacles together/getting him to impale a bunch of electrical cords. Not to mention thinking on his feet on how to stop that train before it flew into the harbor.

I think Spider-man 3 will definitely be an entertaining spectacle, worth all the money we'll pay to see Venom and Sandman brought to life on screen, and hopefully done proper justice though raimi's proven he can handle villains pretty well, so I'm not worried.

Where I'm unfortunately a bit apprehensive is in how my favorite comic character, Peter Parker/Spider-man, will be treated. So far I think he's been portrayed similar to the Lennie charcter in Of Mice and Men, with little of his scientific genius and patented wit found in the comic books. He sort of fumbles through his fights with little to no use of his high intellect to out-wit his opponents like Batman does in Begins when he out-wits Ra's in the end, good flick.

Goblin of course impales himself in the comic so I'm fine with that in spidey 1. But spidey 2 seemingly required no smarts on spidey's behalf when he went against his foes. What's going on, raimi? Don't get me wrong though, I loved the action as much as any spidey fan.

I would love even more though to see spidey be smart-spidey more than Ahnuld-spidey, last action spider. I always thought one of spidey's greatest strengths besides his spider powers was of course mind.

I agree with Wesyeed. Not only have I been disapointed with Spidey's lack of smarts, I've been annoyed with his lack of character. I mean, Spider-man's distinctive traits are his intelligence and his wit.

Some people write off the jokes as saying it wouldn't work, that it'd be too hard to do in the fights. I think that's just lazy...I mean, it wouldn't be that hard to have tobey put in voice overs to coincide with the CGI spidey fights and such. Not only that, I think it's blasphemous to the character to not have him being an annoying motormouth to his enemies. Having Spider-man not spout witty one liners at his villians is as bad as having Batman spout them when he fights instead. It's just not in character.

Now, unfortunatley I don't think Raimi is going to get any better on the wit front, especially with how the tone of this movie is looking, but we may get lucky on Spidey's inventiveness front. Hopefully he'll show us his brains a bit more.

I think he's used his head a couple of times -- the one Spidey-Girl mentioned that he stole of aunt may ha-ha is the main one that springs to mind. But I know what some people are thinking, that that's not the kind of brains they were thinking of; they want him to be using power-conductors and mixing chemicals into his websh--

Nevermind. He just hasn't had chance in these films to show his brains, not really. The fight with Goblin was more a brawl, but I can see that it would have fit better in Ock's warehouse at the end (and he did get Ock to frazzle himself), but the scientific brains I do agree have not been shown yet whilst in the guise of Spidey.

I do wish we had more wit though. I'm thinking if they make a '4' that's possibly when we will see more of it. I mean if you can "take down" Venom and Sandman, I'd be cocky too. Heck I hope we get some of it in '3' until Sandman sledgehammers him.

Even though we have had the slightest of peeks at Spidey's wit, it has never been so over the top as to show how different Spidey is from Pete; in these films it has always been very easy to imagine that it is indeed Pete under the mask -- whereas in the comics and the cartoons, he seems to have a drastically split personality. Spidey's personality has always been very sarcastic -- he is the chandler bing of heroes -- and I read in one comic or another, Pete actually admitting to daredevil that his jokes are just his way of handling stressful situations; I suppose if he didn't laugh he'd cry.

very true and I think that sarcasm is one of the things that makes spidey so entertaining when he's in a battle. I think it adds some of the entertainment to the fight so that we could a laugh a little. and in the upcoming spidey3 I'm sure spidey will make sarcastic wisecracks towards venom and sandman. I mean spidey hasen't really shown alot of his smartness in the films but he has a few times such as when he webbed the two desks in spidey2 and hitting Ock with them knocking Ock right through the window hitting the taxi. it's just something that hasen't really been shown alot but will in spidey3 and I gaurantee that.

I to miss this feature of Spidey. When I watch the first two films I fill in where Spidey doesn't say anything in an obvious joke situation.

Thats what I love about the comics and even more so TAS. Chris Daniel-Barnes was a genius of delivery.
