I never had a problem with the motion controls. They could be frustrating at times (especially the octopus-like boss on the ship where you had to skyward strike all the time). But I never found them so off-putting that I couldn't finish.

My biggest problem was the linear nature of the game. It made the game feel small. Solidus, you say you thought TP was small, but it was huge compared to SS. I played TP after SS, and was astounded at how much potential SS missed as a Wii game.

No I said TP was small compared to OOT, SS was even smaller than that.

Zelda needs some new blood. Every console game has been based on the Ocarina of Time engine (great engine, don't get me wrong, but it hasn't evolved much). Still no voice acting (I'm not talking about Link talking, I mean all the other characters who only get soundbytes). Gameplay is still as linear as hell... maybe even more so.

And the plots haven't evolved much either.

Probably why Majora's Mask was one of my favorites games. Some damn originality.

I just hope Nintendo gets a bit more adventurous with the next game.

Plot is not key to these games, it's mainly about the feel/environment/gameplay. Honestly it's the ones that try to be really different that IMO usually fail. Though I really like Majora's Mask it was the best of the ones that tried something different. Usually I thought they fail a little when they try something different. WW and SS were proof of that to me.

The core gameplay is so sound, they just need to really work on creating some new environment, and make it really immersive. OOT did it, and none of them really have done it since.

Oh and no to voice acting/cinematics. That is what is pulling people out of games, and is the biggest problems, with so many modern games. Games are about gameplay first, too many try to shoehorn in stories of depth. Zelda, Mario, and Metroid are not about that, more environmental then actual story telling.

No no no, and Shigeru Miyamoto has said many times that goes away from what makes these games. So I have no worries about that.

How is SS different from the "average" Zelda game?

If anything the game was full of throwbacks. Link is an orphan (I think) with prophetic dreams. Zelda is part of a prophecy which involves the villain. The villain is an evil dark lord (I assume Ganondorf had some prior engagement). Zelda's father isn't King, just head of the school, and pretty damn useless.

It's extremely formulaic. Only thing missing was the Triforce.

Are we playing the same games? Zelda has cinematics. Just with scrolling texts, which sometimes slow them down. All these games have stories. Some more interesting and complex than others. But there are hours worth of text / dialogue.

Also, how does voice acting hurt gameplay? When I am fighting enemies, I find it a lot more engaging when they are talking. Taunting, giving orders, etc.

As for Miyamoto, he's said he'd think about it.

You apparently did not play SS because at the end there is the Tri-Force and you have to get all three parts.

But anyways, yes, what makes it different is the whole layout, the flying overworld thing, the lack of many mini-games ect. And the weapons/gameplay fully revolve around the motion control, and not as much adventuring, more platforming. Like WW was all about sea travel. The story in SS clearly states that the hero of time, and Gannon/Demon lord are eternally bound and will fight forever. So ya.

And the formula works, it's about gameplay, you want crappy stories that try to pretend their cool then go play Gears of War, or COD. That's fine but that's not what these games are about.

To me it's clear you did not play SS the Tri-force is huge at the end.

Yeah...I can understand Nintendo not doing it in the N64 age..but the whole "We want the player to feel like Link" thing has run it's course. Just...Update the series a bit.

Oh yes, briefly at the end. In that statue, with those damn rooms that you had to keep switching. I must admit, it didn't leave much of a lasting impression on me.

Demise was like a rejected Ganondorf design (actually I think he is, going by Hyrule Historia).

Formulas need to change and evolve.

Also it's Ganon (one "n").

How was Wind Waker? I never played it, but I love the art style in it. I plan on going back and playing it on my Wii over Christmas.

I'm all for them trying voice acting...If it doesn't work, in the next one simply don't do it. Zelda has tried different things over the years... Why not voice work? I'd rather hear a fantastic voice cast (Oddly...When I read Ganon's text in my head I "hear" Jeremy Irons, haha) than "Guh?!" "HEHEEEEEHHH!" so...Why not?

I don't hate WW...But I didn't LOVE WW. Being the first Zelda since OoT/MM I was fairly let down. Not enough dungeons IMHO and the sailing just got...Old.

If they could get a voice cast as big and reputable as Kingdom Hearts, I would be extremely happy.

Good game. The sailing can get a bit tedious (especially if you're one of those people who go for 100%). But overall a very solid game.

It also has the best "incarnation" of the three main characters. In my opinion, anyway.

It ties into Ocarina of Time a bit. Won't really throw you if you haven't played it, but if you have, you'll appreciate the references.

I've played Ocarina, but it's been about 5 years since I last played it. I remember enough to get all the references, I'd bet. I got all the connections in SS.

I actually agree with this. So many people seem to either love it or hate it...I thought it was good but could have been better.

I think the main controversy with voice acting comes to Link talking.

Technically he does speak in the game a few times, when you choose his dialogue.

But I don't really care one way or the other. I just don't see why other characters can't speak.

How great would it be to have grand voice overs? Or music with choirs.

Enemies screaming at you. Hell they could even make up different languages for the different races.

Yes thank you for correcting me....you're welcome for me correcting you on a huge part at the end of SS ;) :oldrazz:

The thing is I don't want full blown cinematic type crap like a lot of modern games. To me they need to focus on making the world (with this new technology of the WiiU) much more immersive, graphically impressive, the Wii is still really just the GameCube. We need to see a true next generation. We really have not seen any attempts on really making the world so much more so, I will admit that and that is what needs more work then anything. Adding a voice really won't do much for me one way or another. And I could care less about it though.

Off to watch The Walking Dead, Dexter, and Boardwalk Empire will be back in a while.

His purpose to to explain why there's always a Ganondorf in all the games, so or course he might appear to be a rejected Ganondorf design. The red hair was a give away....at least to me anyway.

Okay, I forgot that part. Sometimes the endings get a bit blurred.

Having, said that, I've been playing Zelda for twenty years, I like this series. I don't want it to be generic. But it does need to adapt to changing times.

I want the world to be much more to. I think you might be surprised to find out how much characters talking would make it come alive.

But we'll see what Nintendo does.

I actually wasn't crazy about that, because it takes away from Ganondorf. He establishes why he did what he did quite well in Wind Waker.

James Earl Jones as Darunia :p

Ganondorf would be the most interesting choice.

Well, and Zelda, depending how relevant she is to the game. Only got like a cameo in Twilight Princess. Didn't even appear in several games.

I've been playing Zelda since 1990, so ya I understand we don't want generic. But the gameplay is the core of it. What needs changing is the world, not just giving it water or skies to traverse. I look at things like Skyrim ect, make something really immsersive in terms of a world, not near as big/complex as Skyrim but you get what I mean, Make it bigger, make more things going on. I think if they did that they could really revitalize the series.
