Disappointing, but at least the other stuff that was announced sounds good.

I'm still reluctant... I loved Windwaker and I've been a Zelda, Smash Bros and Mario fan for years but... If these end up just being HD sequels of games we've played before... I dunno.

Sure they'll be fun but I feel more and more like Nintendo's creative peak is well and truly behind them. They never managed to find a good replacement for 'Rare' as far as I'm concerned.

Ugh, I've NEVER seen much good in Rare. Conker was their peak IMHO. People blame Microsoft for their downfall...But I swear they just ran out of steam looooong ago.

I dunno, I doubt it. They announced we'd see Smash Bros, Mario, Mario Kart... If they had something or thought they'd have something, I think they would have wanted to announce that too.

Gotta be some surprises.

Also, Mario 3D Land was great (as was Galaxy 2) so I'm all for more Mario. I'll never not be for more Mario... Provided the "New" series is put on hold for a bit, which I quite honestly expect it to be.

Banjo, DK 64, Conker, Jet Force Gemini, Perfect Dark... These were quality games made by a dev other than Nintendo that was as good as or higher quality than the first party stuff. That's what Nintendo is missing. They need someone creating great original games to go along with their familiar stuff. I remover when Nintendo used to actually innovate instead of "innovate" (in the wank marketing sense)

Banjo, IMHO was "ok", DK64 took a series I loved and threw it down a flight of steps. It was every bit the "collect-a-thon" Banjo was with a different coat of paint. Jet Force and Conkers were probably my favorite games they made on the N64 but other than that? I was NEVER a Perfect Dark guy, I'd take Golden Eye any day.

I'd say they found a much more quality studio than Rare that being Retro. Sure they don't put out as much games but the Prime series and DK blows anything Rare did out of the water.

I'm really excited for the new Zelda and for Wind Waker

Are you kidding? Rare did Donkey Kong Country, you can't say Retro 'blew them out of the water' with what was basically just a remake with better graphics.

And Rare churned out so many games for Nintendo's console. Whatever developers they have now, the rate of original games that AREN'T gimmicky party/motion control games is exceptionally low compared to what it used to be.

DKC on the SNES was a far better series than anything Rare did on the N64. They failed to top themselves. DK64 was an annoying game...I hated every "monkey" that wasn't Donkey and Diddy...Add to the fact that I had to replay the levels multiple times with no real change to them to get everything I needed...It was a MAJOR let down.

Retro DID blow Rare out of the water...They took what Rare did on the SNES and made it better. DK64 doesn't even compete with DKCR.

:)

Rare MADE DKC on the SNES.

Along with Battle Toads and Killer Instinct.

And whether you liked them or not, Banjo, Pefect Dark, DK64 etc were immensely popular and had a huge following.

Also, this is all besides the point. My original point was that Nintendo needs someone LIKE Rare, who can pump out a good number of Nintendo exclusive games to compliment their first party line up, because their console exclusive titles are pretty lame at the moment.

Rare ****ed up by not keeping Battletoads and KI going, probably two of their better properties.

Rare defined what everyone comes to expect out of a Donkey Kong with DKC

Retro updating Rare's classic engine isn't an argument for Retro's superiority over Rare but a testament to Rare's brilliance.
Why are you focusing on DK64 as an argument against Rare? We get you don't like it, that's fine, but centering your argument around your distaste for DK64 is beyond silly and makes you look ignorant to all the other games

I dunno, I find Metroid Prime to be a amazing trilogy and the main reason I wanted a Gamecube besides Windwaker.

Rare made games I still can enjoy today like Goldenye, Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, Battletoads, DK64, DKC, Killer Instinct, Jet Force Jemini, and a few others.

All Retro has is Prime and DKCR for Nintendo. With some very little elvel work on Mario Kart 7 I think. That pales in comparison to what Rare did. In time they might surpass them. As long as they keep making quality games.

Did you miss where I said the only two Rare games I liked were Conyers and JFG? B-K games are insanely over rated IMHO... Maybe it's because I was a little older when they came out but they were nothing special to me.

I focus on DK 64 because they went from something awesome to something really ******.

I should have clarified better, I was referring to the games in the DK franchise (a ton of which were Rare games: Donkey Kong Country series, Donkey Kong land series). I guess you hate them all? Dislike all after the original DKC?

But whatever, that's your opinion and that's fine. You dislike Rare games. I happen to LOVE a lot of Rare games

Yeah, I said Rare lost a step after the SNES (the DKC series and KI are some of my all time favorites). I just think they ran out of steam... DK64 played way to much like BK, etc. I just felt they started getting lazy.

So I don't blame MS for their own downfall.

Who knows though... Maybe Nintendo kept Rare's creative juices flowing?

Call me stupid, but I had no idea a Windwaker HD as announced for Wii U! In fact I am stupid for overlooking it! I got a email from Zelda Universe a while ago and just went WHAAAAAAAAAAA

I need to get a dang Wii U...

I saw that screenshot earlier and didn't click in my head it was HD but it did make me think I wish a HD remake was coming out. :p

It's not like they made much for Nintendo after the N64 era. The only GameCube game they made was Star Fox Adventures and while it was rather weak, it was still a passable game. For the most part Nintendo demands quality when it comes to their AAA franchises, so Nintendo wouldn't have allowed Rare to produce a bad game or they would have let them die the way they let Factor 5 and Silicon Knights die.

Microsoft on the other hand just didn't give a ****, they bought Rare to make kiddy games, had no desire to let Rare spread its wings, and the team became demoralized quickly. It's why their Microsoft outings have been subpar and why they suffered such a massive brain drain.

The new lighting almost gives the game a claymation quality to it.

Meh, I preferred how it looked on the GameCube, if you're going to with the cartoony style, you gotta make it look cartoony. At least Sony kept Sly Cooper looking cartoony with the PS3 incarnation of Sly. Wind Waker HD on the other hand just looks kinda soulless.

And I feel about Wind Waker HD the same way I do about Ocarina of Time 3D and the inevitable Majora's Mask remake......yawn. I already played these games and I honestly like the old timey graphics. But to make it even worse is that the Wind Waker has aged very well thanks to it's graphical style and it being on the GameCube, while you could at least make an argument justifying the Ocarina of Time remake. Remakes should only be done IMO when the game has aged very, very poorly like Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil.
