who are they asking for from the dodgers? billingsly, kemp, loney and another pitching prospect? yeah, that is way too much for one player, even one as good as cabrera.

still, i'd much rather have the dodgers fall for that than the angels...

Yeah, funny thing, Ned the genius GM tht we have OFFERED Loney, Kemp, and Bills but the marlins siad "No Thanks".

:wow:

But, not only are they asking for all that, they also want Clayton Kershaw. A left-handed pitcher who is said to be the real deal.

I fear, Ned would do this trade. He did sign Juan Pierre to a 5 year contract :(.

I have been hearing some Dodgers rumors that you might want to be intrested in.

  • The Dodgers may persue Aaron Rowand. This rumor came from Buster Olney so it might not even be true.
  • Mariano Rivera has told his agents to shop him around. He wants a guaranteed 4 years from the Yankees, but is upset at Hank Steinbrenner for commenting on his age. I don't blame him here. Hank is always coming out with stupid comments. Think before you speak. This is where the Dodger's may step in.
  • Dodger's are intrested in Eric Bedard

I never believe anything from Buster. Even if he is a Dodger fan. :cmad:
I think the Mariano things is just a ploy so the Yanks can give him more money.
Know, the Bedard thing is intresting. Not only, do the O's want Loney and Kemp, they want Bills and Broxton! Methinks, Tejada might be offered, but any trade that leaves with more holes instead of filling them is an obvious bad one. But I don't think Ned sees this. Example B: Juan Pierre to a 5 year contract. :cmad:

It's so hard to be a loyal Dodger fan sometimes. :(

i've been hearing that the dodgers are interested in hunter, and that comes from rosenthal, who i consider more reliable than buster, buts its clear they want one of the center fielders. juan pierre just doesn't cut it.

and yeah, hank steinbrenner just keeps getting worse and worse. the guy is an absolute moron. i'll laugh if rivera leaves new york based on this.

heard the angels are also interested in bedard, but that the orioles are going to explore an extension first.

Some other rumors I've been hearing.

  • Andrew Jones may return to Atlanta.
  • Tori Hunter may sign with the Rangers for 6yr $90mil
Tori Hunter going to the Rangers makes sense. He has a home near the ballpark.

The Dodgers have been intrested, but as I posted above, the Rangers seem to be his destination. Hunter has met with 3 teams. White Sox, Royals and Rangers.

yeah, could be. i read somewhere that the rangers were really interested in the japanese outfielder, ***udome

and initially, i think its highly unlikely that andruw settles back in atlanta. i seem to remember that the braves didn't want hunter cause they were ready to play that kid in center field. i can't remember his name. if thats true, i doubt they'll want andruw back either.

hah they censored fu kudome

The Braves are looking at someone to take a short-term deal for centerfield. That's why the Andrew rumor came up. There's also another rumor they may try and trade for Ken Griffey Jr. I highly doubt that though.

i heard Yanks might get johan santana

I think Santana is going to stay with the Twins and they will try and win with him next year. If the team is doing crappy, then he may get traded before the deadline.

yeah, i smell a deadline deal for johan next year. i doubt he gets traded this offseason.

It's not going to happen because the Twins want Cano.

If it's a deadline deal, the price will become less which means the Mets will be bigger players for him and they need him much more than the Yankees do.

Yeah, he does live down here. His kid goes to my old school, and works out up at where I work at all the time. Hunter is a great dude.

I thought the Yanks were willing to part with Melky, Cano, and Hughes

I thought the Yanks were willing to part with Melky, Cano, and Hughes

that's a big gamble since santana's a free agent at the end of next season. they'd have to work out a deal with him to ensure he's not just an expensive one-year rental.

They won't trade any of those players. Cano is a good hitter and reliable in clutch situations. Melky can put up good numbers, but can fall in a slump and stay there . Hughes is too inconsistent, but can pitch good at some times.

They should part with Melky if it can get them any kind of return (he's not an irreplaceable part). Hughes they probably still value highly. Maybe they will learn not to be comparing their prospects to Roger Clemens from now on.

Yanks don't need to do sh:t with A-Rod resigned... the offense is set... they have multiple guys they can DH... all they need is a first baseman that can play defense... and you don't trade to fill a hole like that.

They need starting pitching. Though they would be smart to improve the back end which is what really sucked. Even though Wang is not an ace he's good enough to be one during the season.

The Mets' had signed Torrealba, now the deal fell through, either he failed his physical or he voided his contract. Their options are limited. They could start Castro (horrible idea IMO), re-sign Lo Duca (not sure if he'd come back now), or trade for Ramon Hernandez (which may cost a top prospect).

Hypothetically wouldn't every team be interested in Eric Bedard? I think I've just broken Buster Olney's rumor mill. Pick a team with offseason needs, pick players who are on the market, or simply just good players and mesh them both together.

It all depends on if those teams have good enough players to trade and if they are willing to give up 2 players or more for Bedard. That's why a lot of the high market teams are in the mix. The team that gets him will have him for 2 years which most likely means teams would have to give up more than 2 players/prospects. It's easy for anyone to come up with rumors. There are a lot of teams that need a CF. That means you can pick any one of those teams and say that's where Aaron Rowand may go. With Olney, he just writes it in his blog or says it on ESPN before he hears it from a source. Take the Mike Lowell situation. Olney said the Phillies offered him a contract when they actually didn't.

Yeah, what's with this David Eckstein to the Mets I keep hearing about? Are there no better 2B free agents on the market right now?

I heard the Eckstein rumor as well. I think they'll re-sign Castillo. Kaz Matsui, Marcus Giles, Tadahito Iguchi, Mark Loretta and Jose Valentin are the other free agents from second base.

They're leery of Castillo because of his knees and arthritis. He and Eckstein are similar players except Eckstein has fewer health problems. I would rather see them trade Orlando Hudson but the need for an ace is the first trade priority. The only way I see them trading for him is if Scott Kazmir wins arbitration and becomes a free agent and signs with the Mets. I know someone who knows a pitching guy in the Mets' system. He is close to Kazmir who hates Tampa Bay and wants out. That's why the [Devil] Rays want to trade him.

The 2B FA's are pretty unimpressive which is why Eckstein is willing to play 2B.

Made offer to Santana

The word in baseball circles is that the Twins have made a five-year offer to two-time Cy Young Ward winner Johan Santana calling for $93 million.

Santana will be in the final year of his four-year, $40 million contract in 2008.

It's doubtful that Santana will accept this offer, but at least it's a start in an attempt to lock up the pitcher many consider to be the best in baseball.

Meanwhile, there isn't any doubt that the Twins are waiting for free-agent outfielder Torii Hunter to get some offers, and if Hunter wants to return here as he claims, he will give the Twins a chance to match.

Twins closer Joe Nathan will become a free agent at the end of the 2008 season. The Yankees didn't make it any easier for the Twins to re-sign Nathan when they offered Mariano Rivera a three-year contract calling for $45 million. The Twins recently exercised a $6 million option on Nathan for next year.

5yr/$93M is basically what Zambrano and Zito got in terms of salary per year. I heard from Seth Evrett (MLB Insider) that Santana would at least listen to 6-year deal. He'll likely test the market unless his heart is in Minnesota which I don't think is the case.
