surprising how good an arm the mets got for a rental. it's really a great move. wheeler is a project; he's a raw talent with anywhere from 1.5-3 years before he reaches the majors. he's got a great fastball and a good curveball, but his command is spotty. his stuff is nasty though with strikeout stuff, but who knows how he'll turn out. he's got a lot of development ahead of him.

the trade makes sense for the giants as well, though. wheeler is a lot to give up, but to get a big bat that might help the giants repeat is worth it. they're in win-now mode (as they should be), and it makes total sense.

I would like to see AZ make a corresponding move in which they get either Heath Bell or Mike Adams for Willie Bloomquist.

my team just got rid of the last piece of dead weight from the Minaya era...if they want to divine stats with chicken guts, I really don't care

That "dead weight" was one of the best players the organization has had.

Scott Proctor falling down during the infamous Jerry Meals call

Steinbrenner called him a "fat ***** toad," not just a "fat toad." Let's not forget how much of an ******* he was.

Seems like a pointless move to me. They've already traded their top prospects over the years for Lee, Oswalt, and Halladay. They have so much money tied up in some guys down the road. I don't think Pence was worth it.

I think what happened with the Giants this past series made them feel they needed to make the move. The fact that they were able to make the deal without dealing Dom Brown or Vance Worley is just a bonus. Those prospects they traded are far from being even close to ready for the majors and Pence is almost a sure thing, and they needed someone to bat behind Howard. I really like the move. They can always replenish the farm system, which is still pretty good.

As a Mets fan it makes me happy the Phils are f'inng up their future. :D

As long as they win the world series, I'm ok with it too.

D-Backs going for the throat of the NL West by getting Jason Marquis. I don't hate this deal, getting someone who's the definition of average groundballer in AZ is not a bad move.

Ubaldo Jimenez to Cleveland and Derrek Lee to Pittsburgh.

ehhh Lee isn't that good these days, they were better off getting Pena but the Cubs were stupid enough not to trade him. Jim Hendry outta be shoved out of Wrigley.

It was a minor enough move that it won't hurt them long term but showed they are serious about being a competent team.

Pence is signed for two more years AFTER this season and they didnt give up anyone that was going to see the majors before 2014. They didnt deal Brown or Worley in the deal either so I'm not sure how exactly they've "f'ed up their future?"

Lost a lot of respect for the Angels after their bush-league tactics today.

Guillen shouldn't have been admiring his home run. Weaver was dumb to throw at the guy's head after that.

Okay, F'ed up their 2014 and beyond.

Disagreed.

Guillen showed up the pitcher, after that it's all fair in love and war, or BB.

You guys probably watched ESPN's take and assumed from there. :whatever:

Mags hit a HR earlier, and waited to see if it was fair or foul (really close call) before walking to first. Weaver just started screaming at him to "Get walking, ass****." Mags just shrugged it off and trotted the bases. Weaver kept complaining to Cabrera too the entire game.

And Guillen, being Mags' friend, looked right into Weaver's face after the HR. It was great. You don't mess with the Venezuelans. Weaver was just a crybaby about the whole thing. I loved Guillen doing that, because Weaver started it all to begin with. If you don't expect retaliation you're stupid. And he's just as big of a whiner as Jeff was.

And I knew Weaver would hit the next batter, but throwing at Avila's head? Bush league.

And nice job by Aybar *****er trying to break the no-no by bunting. The Angels were just mad they got outclassed by Verlander. He left Weaver in the dust after yesterday.
