2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs: No Doubting Thomas

I dunno about Ehrhoff to the Wings..I think its possible that the Isles might actually sign him, although I don't know where they sit exactly in relation to the Cap. If not the Isles I think he might sign with someone back east..although as to who...I dunno!

Islanders are about $12 million under the cap FLOOR right now. They can throw a ton of money at Ehrhoff if they want to. Personally, I dont think he's worth more than $5 million per but I can see Snow offering up 6 yrs/$6 million per. And I'd be fine with it. Although as an Islander fan, I'm naturally pessimistic and wont believe he'll sign here until he actually does.

if im the islanders, i offer 12 million per for ****s and giggles towards stamkos and see if they match it

Yes, we have our dman

San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Brent Burns and a second round selection in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Devin Setoguchi, Charlie Coyle and a first round selection (28th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Burns, 26, was named to the Western Conference All-Star Team in 2010-11, appearing in 80 games and posting 46 points (17 goals and 29 assists), which tied for 14th most amongst all NHL defensemen. Also amongst League defensemen, his 17 goals ranked third and his eight power play goals were tied for third. He set career highs in points, goals, assists, penalty minutes (98) and shots (170) in 2010-11. Playing in every situation, he averaged 2:42 seconds of penalty kill time per game to go along with his 3:03 seconds of power play time per game.

The seven-year NHL veteran, all of which have come with Minnesota, has posted 183 career points (55 goals and 128 assists) in 453 games played. He has appeared in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games, posting three points (all assists).

They obviously wouldn't, and then the Islanders would be screwed forever. So many draft picks given up, and all it takes is one injury to Stamkos, or him not fitting into the system well, and that investment is for nothing. Plus, he might sign short-term and then just go somewhere else.

Wow Rangers bought out Chris Drury. I guess they have July 1st plans.

Yeah but the buyout doesn't wipe his contract from the books. He still counts as a $3.7 million cap hit for this season and $1.7 million for next. But that $1.7 million could be gone pending the new CBA.

Yeah..that was a good signing for you guys...wonder if the Sharks will go after anyone else?

Lol talks apparently have already broken down between the Isles and Ehrhoff. So he wants to play for a contender, and wants significantly more than the 4.6 he was reportedly offered by the Nucks. Good luck with all that, Christian.

I would be interested to find out what "significantly more" means. Heck 4.6 seems like over paying.

And Paul Kariya calls it a career.

989 regular season games. 989 points.

HHOF?

No, he's actually really good. 4.6 seems fair, considering he can really anchor a PP and is probably the best defenseman turning UFA. I heard that the Isles offered him something in the mid 5s.

And now Ehrhoff's rights have been traded to the Sabres for a 4th round pick! Good save Isles! Lets see if THEY can get it done.

PS yes Paul should go into the HHOF, but not for a bit of time. There are a LOT of good players to come out of the 90s, and although I have no doubts that Kariya would have become one of the all-time greats if not for those huge concussion problems, HHOF votes on results not potential.

I know he is pretty good, but 4 mil is my cap on him. He's a dime a dozen D in the NHL.

He's not a dime a dozen, he's the 7th highest in NHL defensemen scoring and 2nd highest during the playoffs. He's more than just pretty good, and with the salary cap going up, 4 million would be quite a discount for him.

I don't think he's 7th highest if he's not on that team. Stick him on a squad with less offensive talent and those #'s will shrink.

He had 50 pts with 28 of them coming on the PP. He only had 14 assists 5 on 5. I'd say he is more a product of the environment playing with talented forwards that can score on the PP.

Now that said, would I take him on my team? In a heart beat.

I really like one stat on him though. 108 blocked shots.

Isles apparently offered him close to $33 million for 6 years and he turned it down. I'm thinking he believes he'll get $6 million per on the open market. Cant believe we were able to get a pick out of Buffalo for him though. NO way in hell he signs there the day before FA.

I don't get why teams are willing to let go of a draft pick just so they can have a 24-48 hour window to negotiate with a guy that wants to hit the open market. I mean if you are going to become a UFA, why would you sign with someone before you get the chance to test the open waters?

The Islanders must have been under the impression that he was just looking for money, money the Canucks couldn't provide. They probably felt they could make a good pitch, but it'd be lost in the mix if there were 6-8 other teams that are better making the same pitch.

That's very true but keep in mind that is his specialty. The Vancouver PP clicked in large because of him, not necessarily the other way around. It'll be a huge void to fill, and Ballard isn't the guy to do it. Canucks'll probably pick up an Ehrhoff-lite on July 1st, or promote Edler.

Hmm... so far,

Jagr to PHILLY,
Salo and Higgins stay in Vancouver,
Torres to Phoenix,
Wisniewski to the Blue Jackets
and a whole bunch of other signings, including Eager going to the Oilers and Theodore going to Florida.

Jagr to Philly? REALLY?
