Beltran has been trying to live up to that postseason ever since. Injuries have really taken their toll on him, although he has had a pretty good season this year (until the trade).

i'm surprised the giants are still in first place.

they're trying their hardest to give the division to the dbacks.

It's a game of hot potato. D-Backs are letting the Lastros walk (rather crush homers) all over them all of the sudden.

He's had DL stints recently because he's old.

But he's a Knuckler, but Jamie Moyer had to get arm surgery so yeah, sure.

So far the acquisition of Beltran has'nt helped much, & he's already missed 1 game with a little uncomfort in his hand. I don't like how it's panning out.

i'm honestly not too worried.

beltran, even this year, was still a pretty big rbi guy. the giants offense, as bad as it actually is, is not as bad as it has been in recent weeks. when the offense picks up, i expect beltran to be leading it, or at least contributing to it.

No trade-backs.

just having him in the lineup is a plus for the offense; i'm confident he'll do well in the playoffs...if the giants make the playoffs.

plus as good a prospect as wheeler is, the giants really haven't traded any prospect pitchers that actually turned out to be good. look at tim alderson for freddy sanchez, for example. the only time i can remember the giants making a really bad pitching trade was trading joe nathan, but he was far from a prospect.

I see people overreacting to a week's worth of at bats for Beltran. You know there is the human element of the fact that he's temporarily staying somewhere where he's never lived before, and the whole getting to know teammates/whomever. Not that it's a reason for his brief lack of success but anytime someone gets traded they have to adjust personally.

I really hope you're right & he somehow manages to turn it around quickly. Also, him resigning with the Giants next year would be a plus too.

I'd expect Beltran to get it going again. As long as he's not injured, he'll be fine.

I don't know, I kind of feel like Beltran is a bit over-rated, mainly for how he played during that stretch with the Astros. I mean, he is definitely a good player, but not as good as he's been made out to be. Before that 2004 season, he never hit more than 30 HRs in his first 4-5 seasons. Then after hitting 38 in 2004, he only hit over 30 twice with the Mets in 5 seasons, not including the past 2 seasons where he was pretty much injured completely. He's always been a good double hitter, but I feel like he received way too much hype for just a couple of great seasons and is still expected to be some offensive powerhouse for any team.

Beltran was never hailed as a big time power hitter, he was always more of a 5 tool guy who'd hit 20-30 HR's but steal 40 SB's and hit somewhere around .300

Agreed - I always thought Beltran was viewed as an all around offensive threat vs an all out power guy. Leg injuries have definitely taken away the threat of the steal (for the most part).

Yes, **** one of the most productive players the Mets ever had

overpaid, didn't produce considering what he was paid, and the Mets have zip to show for it....behold the genius of Omar Minaya

so yes....F*** him

You sound like one of the mentally ******ed people who call into WFAN.

I'm not that bad.....just angry that my team has underacheived for the past 3 decades

I believe this is the correct object of your anger. Basically the reason the Mets have underachieved, many bad decisions.

Looks like the White Sox are making their annual push to get everyone excited ... soon to be followed by their late season collapse.

Let me ask you a question. Is it the fault of the player for not living up to impossible pressure, or fault of the high expectations by fans/media/ownerswhogavehimthecontractinthefirstplace? Beltran has been a great player during his career, just because the Mets didn't win '06 doesn't mean he was bad:huh: There are more issues on that team that transpired over the last several years, and his various injury issues were only a small part of it.

Uggla with 32 game hit streak...even more impressive with the ball of tobacco in mouth.
