Anyhoo, those battling Buccos officially cannot finish the season with a winning record! Only one more loss and we're at 19! They gave us a scare for awhile in June and July but they really turned it around! Pad that record, boys! You may as well be the best at something (even if it is the best at losing).

And those clowns had the nerve to raise ticket prices and give Hunington a three year contract extension. No wonder why they are the joke of professional sports. If the MLB can take over the Dodgers for a divorce, they should certainly be able to force Nutting to sell the team to someone who will not profit off of shared revenue. Then again, Selig is such a joke that he makes the Pirates look like a finely tuned machine. :whatever:

I think it was pretty tactless on the MLB's part.

I can see why they did it though.

If Justin gets 2 more wins, he's taking both home.

If Valverde gets to 50 saves in a row, maybe he gets Cy Young and Verlander can get MVP.

No way Valverde gets Cy Young even with 50 saves and he shouldn't either, Verlander already has the award won.

I can see why they did it though.

I don't. They can talk about wanting everything to be the same all they want, but the fact is....it's not the same for New York as it is Boston or Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. 9/11 isn't the same for those cities as it is for New York. There is nothing uniform about it to them. Being as the Mets were the only New York team playing in New York that night, they should've been allowed to honor their city and the fallen heroes of their city.

Not to mention the Mets were the first team to play in New York after 9/11.

It was a stupid decision by MLB and now Selig and Torre are pissed they're being painted as the bad guys and trying to trash the Mets by back-pedaling on what they said.

If I was a player, I would have worn the hat and said Selig can come pick up the fine personally so I can put my foot up his ass when he turns around to leave.

The thing is that they didn't want to become judges of who they can allow to honor what event/incident.

Come on, that is a load. Frankly, there is one event since the MLB's founding that can really compare 9/11 and Hawaii doesn't have a team, so it is a moot point. This is Selig backtracking on a bad call. The MLB really screwed the pooch. It is funny, because the NFL showed the perfect way to honor the anniversary of the tragedy where as the MLB just blew it on every level.

Bud Selig has once again shown his ineptitude as a commissioner. He is so out of touch it isn't even funny. He will use his influence to stop a team from wearing hats to honor a national tragedy or insert the MLB into the middle of a divorce hearing....but sits with his thumb up his ass when a team PROFITS off of shared revenue. The man has no clue how to pick his battles. He is the single reason that the MLB has gone from America's past time to having the same notoriety as soccer.

Pretty interesting way for Mo to get his 600th save, with Ichiro being thrown out to end it.

On a completely different note, Ankiel makes another great throw to nab someone at the plate. The arm on this guy is amazing(not surprising since he's a pitcher), its always so fun to watch him throw out runners. My favorite play in the game.

Verlander is the easy choice for Cy Young but for MVP I'd narrow it down to Bautista, Ellsbury, or Granderson.

Pedroia and Gonzalez are candidates too but I just picked one Sox. Miguel Cabrera is having a great season too but he has no chance.

im having a tough time with this.

Verlander continues to dominate, but when he wins cy young the guy should be in discussion for MVP. Problem is he can be considered for the MVP and cy young...The hitters can only be considered for the MVP.

I think CY Young is a MVP on its own...I think if Red sox miss the playoffs you go with Granderson regardless of his ****** batting average.

If Red Sox make it, I think Gonzalez gets MVP.

I understand what you mean but as of now there are no rules saying pitchers can't be MVP so I do consider Verlander an MVP candidate. Its just that I don't he's been so dominant that he overshadows everyone else. There are many hitters that are worthy so I don't see him winning it.

It's also at football games, too.

The Pirates hit 19 consecutive losing seasons yesterday! Let's go for 20, Buccos!

Broken bat homer...that's certainly something you don't see often in a game.

Stings even more that it was the lone run of the game.

Thank God that run occurred, the Pirates gave AZ a run for its money the last few days. Only two more wins until they win the West!

Heard that the Mets will be redoing the dimensions outfield walls this offseason.

 Jesus Javier Vazquez...just jesus..Since June..17th I believe I read in a article, his ERA is 5th in majors at 2.03 ERA. But this...

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?gameId=310921128

he 35-year-old right-hander has won his past five starts while allowing one earned run in 36 innings, an ERA of 0.25. It has been a remarkable turnaround by Vazquez, who had the highest ERA in the majors at 7.09 in mid-June.

He is now 12-11 on the year with a 3.77 ERA. I hope he signs a one year deal for the Marlins next year but...

http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/09/21/javy-vazquez-may-retire-after-this-year/

But this...he's all but officially retired.

“Most of the players play until [someone] takes their uniforms off. For me, it’s not the way it should be. I love my family and I love my kids, and I want to be there with them. I want to see them growing up. And if I don’t, when I’m 50, I’m going to regret that, and I don’t want to regret that. I’ve seen it too many times.” And then, for the line that coincided almost perfectly with an apparent dust storm here in my den, Vazquez mentioned that his children are “old enough to cry because I’m not there.”

It's been a joy to...well, look at the live pitch by pitch of his starts this year. But it'd be nice to see him pitch next year for the team. JJ can't stay healthy, Nolasco is too on/off and that only leaves Ani.

Javier Vazuez's ERA has a direct correlation with fan attendance. The more fans, the more runs he allows.
