Official '24' Season 5 Discussion Thread!

kay, so I just watched. before I actually comment on it, let me just get this out of the way.

OMFG THAT WAS AWESOME!!!! I CAN'T F***IN BELIEVE I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL JANUARY!!!! DAMMIT!!!

kay, so now that that's out of the way I gotta say that this finale only confirmed what I already suspected: this was the best season of 24 EVER. no doubt about it.

man, I just loved seeing the look on Logan's face when he was getting arrested. I honestly didn't see the microtransmitor thing coming. specially since I could've sworn up and down that Wayne was going to come out and shoot Logan right as he passed the casket.

I loved the look of satisfaction in Martha's face. and OH, Gregory Itzin damn well deserves an Emmy nod this year, because he was amazing all season long.

and man, I sure hope Morris stays. he's definitely the new Milo, and works great opposite Chloe.

as far as the ending goes, I imagined it'd be something like that, but those last couple of shots... that was definitely the "oomph" factor that they needed to close off this amazing season.

I just went on AA.com to see what the travel time is between LA and Shanghai. It is only 11 hours between the two cities. So 24 could take a risk and have Jack on a plane for 11 hours and have other characters handle a crisis in America. Of course even if they do rescue Jack, that's going to piss of China more.

Actually, I thought about this last night, and to me what made the most sense was if they had next season take place only a few hours after this season ended. You have Jack wake up on the cargo ship a few hours out to sea, and the first 6 to 8 episodes is him breaking out and causing havok on the cargo ship, turning the ship around, and bringing it back to US waters. I just really doubt they will have most the season take place overseas, and I also doubt they would have Jack on a plane for 11 hours. That's almost half the season of having Jack pretty much fly a plane. The cargo ship realistically seems to make the most sense as they dont travel nearly as fast, and Jack is more free to engage in action on it, and by doing that you could still realistically bring Jack back to America early in the season. While it would be a bold move on their part to have Jack in China for an entire season, I just don't see it happening. I'm calling it now, Jack will be back in Los Angeles halfway through the next season.

man, I'd love to see Chase (aka agent Charlie Brown) coming back for the next season. it's not like James Badge Dale's schedule is full...

oh, and with Commander In Chief cancelled, maybe the producers will finally work up the courage to get Donald Sutherland in. either as the new president or Papa Bauer. :D

I've been wanting Donald to join as Jack's dad for the longest time. I think it would be brilliant.

I remember back in the day last year Silly IMDB had donald sutherland listed as Jack Bauer Sr. for season 5 :P

Meh, I don't think Bauer's parents are necessary. It'd be kind of lame, IMO.

Like Keith Richards playing (supposedly) Jack Sparrow's dad.

Anybody know when this season will be on dvd?

Well you can't judge that until we find out what their purpouses would be.

After digesting the season finale (which was great), I gotta say the season as a whole ranks at number 4 for me.

1. Tie between seasons 3 & 4, just felt these two seasons were perfect, it seemed like every hour was important and the writers had a definite plan how to fill each hour with story progress.

3. Season 2, this would be number one without a doubt if not for two words: Kim Bauer. I'm not knocking the actress or her performance, but the writers for giving her the lamest storyline ever, her storyline really dragged the season down.

4. Season 5, while a great season it felt like there were too many "filler" episodes after the president was revealed as the mastermind (I would've ranked it #1 at the point where the pres. is revleaded), like the writers just didn't have enough story to fit all 24 episodes. Also, it didn't feel like the real time format was working at times like they skipped a few minutes/transitions just to get things going.

5. Season 1, while groundbreaking, the writers obviously kept things safe in case they didn't get picked up and wrote two half seasons. I love the season, but compared to other seasons isn't as good.

Well, it's coming back in January of '07, and those DVD folks love to capitalize on sales...so I would assume probably around November or December of this year.

I would be surprised if it came any earlier than October.

I was hoping this month:(

Yeah, it does kind of suck.

It'll be worth the wait, though. IMO, this has been the best season yet.

Jack could barely talk after 10 minutes of getting beaten. So in the next hour after his beating on the ship he would probably be a swollen bloody body. First chance he gets, he is taking his own life.

So season six will be atleast a couple months after season five; let his wounds heal and have China use him for whatever they wanted. To start the sixth season with the four hour premiere, have Jack rescued midway through episode four and have a cliffhanger that occurs on the West Coast. The next 11 deal with a terrorist crisis in America. Jack would arrive in episode 16/17. That would be 10/09 hours of Bauer in America. Now yes, him sitting in a plane isn't exciting TV. It does allow him to have phone conversations with people ala President Keeler in season four. There could even be a agent who was ordered to kill Bauer again. Have the Americans shoot down the plane near Hawaii, so he no longer is a problem.

Filming a season takes 10 months, could they have an entire season in China or other East Asian countries that long? Budget and morale wise I mean.

Well the last two DVDs came out on December 7th and 6th, so December 5th is the most likely date. The UK will get their DVD out in August so most features for the set will be annouced in the next two months.

Well I havent seen the current season yet, Im still catching up. At the moment im at season 4 disc 4. Best season yet!

I dunno, Slinger, 10 or 11 hours without Bauer would be risky. Especially without Tony and Michelle in action anymore. They would pretty much have to bring back Chase if they were to do that.

They should start next season with Jack sitting in a bar having a drink with Curtis, Chloe and Buchanan. Jack toasts his friends and says "Thanks for getting me out of that Chinese prison, guys".

"No problem Jack," says Curtis, "That was some day."

Then you start the new season.

No, it should start with Jack being tortured, then suddenly he wakes up in his apartment. He hears the shower running so he walks in, pulls off the curtain, only to reveal DAVID PALMER!

Jack: I had a horrible dream...you were dead...and Logan was president...and I was kidnapped by the Chinese

Palmer: Its ok Jack, it was just a dream (hugs him)

Curtis, Pierce, Bill, The O'Brians, Wayne Palmer. They could always bring Logan back for something. And a new castmember. Kiefer fully believes the real time format is the star of the show. It would only be 11 hours of Jack not in action. He still can have his scenes discussing what they did to him, phone conversation with Kim or working on a computer helping Curtis out.

Still, 11 hours is a long time to marginalize Jack...then again, its TV...they could probably get away with cutting the flight down to 8 hours. I still think if they take that approach they will need Chase.

Best scene of the night...Henderson's death...although I would really like to know more about him.

The actor who plays him wants nothing to do with 24. They've wanted him back but he's turned them down.

Playing with my avatars.

Really? Hes turned them down? When was this? What were the circumstances? That seems strange, its not as if he has bad blood with the show, as he did the voice and gave his likeness to the game. Maybe just schedueling conflicts that will be taken care of by the time to film?
