Hmmmm... my main gripe with the current "Kitty alone against the Hellfire Club" story is that she isnt. Theres a whole X-Men team there in the mansion, and other X-Men hanging about, and 198 other mutants and numerous huge sentinals all hanging about the front lawn.
Even the New X-Men team is nowhere to be seen, which is even weirder, as without them, the student body in Astonishing seems to only consist of the same 2-3 kids most of the time.
The other X-Men are there.. its proven by the fact theyre in every other X-Men comic. Whedon really should at least try to come up with an excuse why theyre not around, even just saying theyre out on missions around the world would be enough. Its kinda hard to fit his book into continuity if he wont aknowledge that theyre there.
Everyone's asleep. We even saw Kitty walk by the bedrooms and think Nova or "Megalithic... something" was keeping everyone knocked out. It was the page before Logan's "I shan't prize my life above honor" line.

The students are knocked out, there's nothing to suggest that the other X-Men teams are currently at the mansion because the titles do not happen at the same time, the 198 would rather leave the X-Men to burn with all they've been through if there still there, and the Sentinels are a stupid idea that are better left ignored.

Whedon seems to more or less be ignoring the other titles. Of course, also remember that this title is not on the same schedule as Adjectiveless and Uncanny, so it's not like it has to match up with what's going on right now. Come to think of it...if it hadn't gone on hiatus, would Astonishing even match up with the O*N*E and all that mess right now? I know Civil War wouldn't have started yet, although then that raises the question of why Cyke is wearing his visor there...

Aggh. It's better just to say, for now, that it stands on its own.

This is actually supposed to take place after Civil War.

Joss has previously said that Torn takes place after Civil War. That's why the other two teams have left/will leave the mansion. The 198 and O*N*E will probably also leave following the Civil War.

There was a debate about continuity and exactly when everything happens on Whedonesque and Joss came in and ended it saying, "Mike (Marts) couldn't tell you if my stories come exactly before or after certain things and neither could I."

So it appears that Joss nor the editors are even trying to maintain any continuity in Astonishing, other than getting rid of the other two teams so they didn't have to deal with that issue any longer. Since the events of all 16 issues of Astonishing seem to take place over a short period of time, Gifted and Dangerous now make little continuity sense if Torn and Unstoppable take place some time after the Civil War (and after the Adjectiveless Supernovas arc)

Trying to figure out when events in Astonishing take place in regards to the other X-books will make your head explode...

I think Angel and Husk should join Astonishing X-Men...what are they doing in the comics these days? I havent seen them since X-men issue 157

They have been AWOL. Seems like a lot of my faves are either being mutilated -- see Gambit -- or neglected like that pair. I would have liked to see their relationship fully developed.

Gambit is one of my favorite characters...But I think Angel and Husk would fit in better with Wheadon`s writing style and the current story line

I actually like comics better when I don't have to worry about when it takes place in relation to other comics. The mansion was attacked in both New X-Men and the X-Men Civil War, but the damage isn't seen in any of the other X-titles. Do I honestly care? No. If I tried to figure out what one X-team was doing while reading about another, I'd probably just hurt myself.

Astonshing X-Men is just vague enough for you to read it along with the other X-titles and assume it takes place somewhere in the middle of Civil War, or just read on its own without even caring about what happens in the other X-titles. I have friends who only read Astonishing, and they had no idea what the Decimation was. They assumed there were so few students at the mansion because of Danger's attack and the cure.

That's the way I tend to look at it, as well. It's just too hard to try and make everything fit, especially since I only regularly read Astonishing of the X-Books, and then Civil War, which doesn't actually feature the X-Men.

I agree. I like continuity, and I like pieces of books fitting together, but if you're just going to force things to try and conform to continuity instead of letting it naturally come about, it's just going to more create hassles and problems than it's worth.

Marrow wouldn't look too bad in this team(anybody knows what happened to her?)

The problem with the continuity is that it wasn't planned out. No one knew that it would get so far beyond. It's not Joss fault. He's just writing his story and not including any other character since he knew continuity was a problem.

The other problem is the that Astonishing team has been over-used so badly. It's like Wolverine, but all of them. They're everywhere. And the other writers aren't following what Joss is doing.

Carey's Adjectiveless is the only of the X-books that's really been able to do manage maintaining continuity and also dealing with all of the teams, all of the books, and making them seem like they're all happening in the same place, yet focusing on his characters.

Angel's got his hands full with helping to track down the 198.

Uh... isn't Cyclops tracking them down with Angel? If Scott can be in two places at once, I'm sure Warren can.

She was depowered after M-day.

I just got it yesterday, and i have to say Kitty puching Emma was the best and i loved it, Kitty is great. Logan still is making me laugh a lot. He is going to be so annoyed about the way he acted lol.

I co-sign everyone who liked this one. The cover didn't lie, this issue was all Kitty's...between the one-liners and the look on her face when Perfection uncloaked herself...funny stuff, man. Wolvie came in at a close second...I might even pick up his solo books if he was like this all the time...straight up comedy. I'm really anticipating the conclusion...I gotta see where all this is going. Emma's got some splainintahdo...in the words of Kitty, yeahbuhwhat? :\

Emma should do hair commercials with her diamond hair. The endorsement opportunities are endless...heh.

Oooh. Emma's Tae Bo moves will rough up Kitty's ninjitsu. Scary...really. Honest.

Hey, don't underestimate the skills of a rich woman with very little combat experience. Sure, she's taking on one of the finest hand-to-hand fighters in the X-Men who once managed to impale Wolverine, and Japanese people call Daughter of the Demon...

What was my point, again? Oh yeah. The rich brat might stand a chance against the Daughter of the F***ing Demon!

Oooh. Rich brat will use tae bo to rough up a former ninja of the immortal Ogun. Scary...really. Honest.

The look on Emma's face on the "You get in my head, the rock gets in yours" panel is priceless.
