Whedon and Vaughan leaving practically at the same time can't be just coincidence.

Heh. I would finally have to read Runaways if Whedon took over Runaways.

Bad Marvel! Stop trying to make me break out of my comfortable X-geek shell! :p

I wish he would just stay on Astonishing :down

Oh, me too, but if absolutely HAS to leave...well, Runaways is the best place for him to go.

Whedon on Runaways? That'd be sweet.

I haven't read Runaways yet ("Old Lace"? Seriously??) but if Whedon moves over there, I'll have to start. I just love the way he writes dialogue.

UGh

Issues 1-6 were fantastic. The rest has been so blah.

What is wrong with you?!

j/k. You should pick up the digests at your local comic shop or Borders or Amazon.com. It's a really fun series, and started off with one of the most creative premises in years. There's a reason the Runaways are Marvel's most praised teenaged superheroes in over a decade.

it is good but what are your reasons for liking runaways?

Well, I picked it up by chance while reading comics for free at a Borders book store. I got hooked by the premise: A group of kids discover their parents are supervillains. Sadly, after I read the first digest, the book was cancelled. I found out way later that the book was un-cancelled, and bought up the next few digests (nobody tell me what happened after the arc where they clear Cloak's name). In some ways, the comic just comes off as a big tribute to past teenaged superhero comics. You've got Cloak & Dagger making a few cameos, as well as an interesting conversation between Gert & Spider-Man. It also explains the amazing absence of superheroes & villains on the West Coast.

But mainly, I love Runaways for the same reason I love Y: The Last Man and BKV's run on Ultimate X-Men: BKV can write characters like it's nobody's business. Reading his characters is like getting to know real people. They start off as mundane, but become more interesting as more is revealed about them.

Also, the art is pretty consistent.

Hmm. I hope it's Runaways too. Imo Joss is one of the few writers I'd trust to continue on Vaughan's work and maintain that standard.

As much as I would love Whedon on Runaways it doesnt seem likely. Vaughan recently implied that the new team on Runaways would not be a 'superstar' and would be a young writer.

My guesses are Sean McKeever (who writes Spider-Man loves Mary Jane and who also followed Vaughan on Mystique), Zeb Wells (who wrote the less-than-stellar Runaways/Young Avengers: Civil War oneshot). And as a couple of outside chances I'll also suggest Jay Faerber (Who wrote one of Vaughan's favourite books, Noble Causes) or perhaps one of Vaughan's contemporaries at Vertigo...?

I don't know what Runaways/Young Avengers you've been reading but Wells has done a damn fine job doing both the Young Avengers and the Runaways. And out of that list would be the best choice for the job, that isn't Joss Whedon.

It is truly great news, but still doesn't help with the side of situation, sad to say.

Inconceivable. Hollywood has consumed him.

sooooooooo hows about BKV for Astonishing?

Heh, talk about a job trade.

It'd be awesome, but I don't now what Vaughn's gonna do new with Marvel except his Dr. Strange mini.

i'd love bendis for it too, but he probably doesn't have the time

I don't care that I was absolutely, unequivicably, cluelessly wrong! I AM ****ING HAPPY WITH WHEDON ON RUNAWAYS.

I wonder who the new member will be? An evil ninja's daughter perhaps? A vampire? Fin Fang Foom's hatchling? (bwahahahaha)

EDIT: Good news! Runaways will be on a monthly schedule! Yay!

Re: the bimonthly digs, you guys realize that Astonishing goes back to monthly (thanks to Cass' schedule, not Joss', which has been reported many times) next month? Also, Joss' run on Runaways starts in April, giving enough lead time for a monthly schedule.

Ok, go back to enjoying the news. I'm so glad we have announced it now! This will be a great run and thanks for supporting the book!

Well, then, you'll be happy to know that Runaways is on a monthly schedule with Joss & Michael.

Joss's run on Runaways starts April 2007.

Also, for Bill, in reference to Runaways/YA - I just didn't dig it personally but I understand it hit the right spot with alot of fans. Fair?

Also, AXM is back to normal monthly schedule from now on. Double-Yay!
