We should form a public interest group.

If only it could be effective. DC apparently feels it's better to push people who write a more balanced Batman like Chuck Dixon and Alan Grant away & keep them from working for them ever again which is a real shame. I mean why not hire someone like Matt Wagner or Darwyn Cooke for 'tec?

I guess cause those guys stand up for their creative voice and don't get pushed around by editorial easily. In turn they look at people who's only perception of Batman is the works of Miller (RE: Tony Daniel, Finch and Snyder) to carry the torch instead. I don't mind Snyder granted because at least he strives for a little more. I guess it's since they're easier to control from a creative standpoint being that they're not really vets in comic writing but it sucks that an iconic series like 'tec needs to go through such a hindrance in the first place.

Forgot to say; with these 2 I meant the anecdotes and story contrivances. I agree that a somber tone is perfect for them as they're supposed to be horror comics.

But it doesn't mean we always have to have the narrator telling us heavy handed stories in every single issue either. I don't think you'd find more caption boxes in any other mainstream book than what you'd find in a Snyder comic. Nor should we have convenient resolutions to narrative threads that kill the tension so suddenly. Snyder's still finding his groove as a writer though so it doesn't bother me all that much even if it is a bit obnoxious.
Oh, I got you. I don't mind the caption boxes much - and I usually hate overuse of caption boxes - but I definitely see what you mean about the quick resolutions.

That said, his actual concepts are pretty impressive for a young writer. If he improves the same way that Morrison, Moore, etc. improved, he should end up being a pretty incredible writer in the years to come.

Oh yeah, and Batwing is pretty awesome too.

Honestly, I couldn't disagree more with the last page on this thread. I like Morrison's Batman, but not nearly as much as many writers to have worked on the character over the years. Especially not in currently, when his high concepts and brilliant story ideas tend to almost get lost admist the constant assault of "weird for the sake of weird" scenes and dialogue. It was a refreshing take on the character whenever his run was in it's high point, yes, and I can't wait to read the next volume of Incorperated. But it also held the potential to be a very frustrating read on a monthly basis.

I much prefer Snyder on the book now, partly because his version reminds me alot of the Batman comics I enjoyed growing up. And honestly, that's all I want out of a Batman book. To be entertained and reminded of why I love the character.

No, you have a point too.

Don't get me wrong, I highly enjoy Synder's Batman - and, like you inferred - it's probably much more enjoyable to read on a monthly basis. It's just..not perfect.

Yeah but Morrison's was far from perfect... It was like he was throwing everything to the wall in the hope that something would stick.

I think from the entire arc, Damien is the only thing that will have any kind of lasting legacy. And sadly its grand conclusion feels stunted thanks to The New 52.

I will say, my favorite portion of Morrison's run was Batman and Robin due to his merging of 60s camp and modern day horror.

The rest of his run was definitely hit or miss, or a bit too confusing for its own good.

I agree with the bold. Those are all very solid reads as are the other ones that CConn mentioned and I also feel Batwing, Capt Atom, Frankenstein and Voodoo have a good writing/art combination. Superman also did a great turn around with #7 it easily stomps all over the stuff Perez wrote.

I loves Batwing and Frankenstein as well those are both really good ones

OMAC was good while it lasted too :)

And Batman is really good right now

Nah, the big conclusion is all about the Wayne family and the Ghul family, so i wouldn't go blame 52 for anything unless lets say Geoff Johns truly is going to have Ras' al Ghukl in his take of "Legion of Doom" and that might **** things up for Morrison, who knows?

But yeah sadly Batman as a character now due to Snyder is already going the more Miller direction and noone seems to care about what Morrison did with Bruce, so it's simply Damian and the new villains that will remain.

I think Grant Morrison's Batman run is the best Batman run in modern comics. I feel it could quite possibly be one of the definitive runs, there are but a few missteps. However, I am seeing this through rose-tinted glasses, as Morrison is one of my fave writers.

as a completely unbiased CF (comic-fan) I can confirm that it is one of the greatest

*sips strawberry milX*

He's not as bad as the Miller version yet i think but i do hope Bruce gets a bit less grim after the court of owls story

Lots of DC titles are really good right now

Batwoman is absolutely amazing, best thing DC is publishing right now without a doubt

Resurrection Man is lots of fun right now and Demon Knights has been really good too Vandal Savage beats up a dinosaur with a dinosaur

Birds of Prey has been fun Starling has been my favourite new character created after Flashpoint

Animal Man and Swamp Thing are both pretty neat

And I'm digging Batgirl, Teen Titans and Legion of Superheroes

Batwoman..I have to admit, I have every issue but i stopped reading after issue #2. I just dropped Swamp Thing last week and the rest, ugh no thanks.

Action Comics, Animal Man, Batman and Robin, Batwoman, The Flash, I, Vampire, Supergirl, Swamp Thing.

At least that's what I eagerly look forward to every month. Batman and GL included, of course.

I buy
  • Batwoman (like I said above)
  • The Flash (pretty good)
  • Supergirl (it was pretty good when i read it, lost interest and i'm 2 issues behind)
  • Batman & Robin (this one is up there with Batman and GL, I read this in the car last issue)
  • New Guardians (really good but i'm an issue behind)
  • Action Comics (over-rated, blows, i'm only buying it because of my OCD)
  • Superman (Sucks hard, buying for my OCD)
  • Aquaman (I have all the issues but i need to catch up)
  • JL (Meh)
  • Red Hood (okay)
  • Red Lanterns (okay)

No love for Action Comics at all? :csad:

Action Comics has lacked the spectacle his Batman run began with, but I'm hoping that this was just an obligatory origin story.

It's not been as good as I hoped it would be but I've been mostly enjoying it

i'm sure it would make a cool elseworlds story, but i'm good until they bring back my superman.

You should feel terrible for not reading Batwoman and Supergirl despite their admitted goodness.

i'm sure it would make a cool elseworlds story, but i'm good until they bring back my superman.
I hope they never do. "Your" Superman was largely a *****fied and bland stooge who was mishandled by the majority of his writers for the past 50 years or so.

Morrison's Superman is just like that brilliant orphan bastard from 1938 who did nothing but kick ass and take names.

But will the new villains really remain? I mean we have people mentioning how Hurt could return, despite the fact that he only works in that particular run, and we have Proffessor Pyg and Flamingo yet most writers seem to be afraid of using them since Morrison, despite the fact that they could excellent additions to both Dick and Bruce's rogues.
