Although I'm not really excited about Chris Evans as Cap, if he does a good job, I'll be willing to admit it. I'm wondering, though, IF he does POORLY, will his supporters be willing to admit it, or will they rationalize by saying it was a bad script or bad directing?
I seriously doubt that he's going to do a poor job but if I feel he does a mediocre job I will express my truthful opinion.

I wasn't impressed with Norton in TIH and I expressed as much.

I have been disappointed with Bale as Batman (especially in TDK. And no it had nothing to do with the Joker stealing the spotlight as Mr. J is always supposed to steal the spotlight anyhow) and I expressed as much.

I thought that Brandon Routh was lame and charismaless as the Man of Steel and I expressed as much.

I never hold back or sugarcoat my opinions of a film or performance, no matter what I expected of the actor.

I expect Chris Evans to do a pretty damn good job as Captain America but if he doesn't IMHO, I will say so.

Isn't it funny that they had to get an American actor, but the movie itself is being, partly, filmed in the U.K.?

Since Captain America is an American symbol/icon the entire movie should be shot in America. :woot:

Australia's the greatest. Everyone who counts know that. :oldrazz:
It's cheaper to film in the U.K so thats A-okay with me.

So far I have not seen Chris Evans perform in a good movie poorly. I think London and Sunshine were pretty good, and he was okay in both. Not excellent by any means, but did his job in delivering the lines.

And usually when a superhero movie sucks, the director gets most of the blame.

If there are aspects of this movie I don't like, I'll be the first to say it, his performance included. That said, I'm not gonna blame him for the movie being poor if his performance wasn't the problem, either. Which, if this movie fails, I think is more likely, considering Evans has experience being one of the solid aspects in otherwise terrible films, lol. In other words, I've seen him in bad movies, and I've seen him in movies where he's not really given anything to do, but I've never seen him actually deliver a bad performance in a movie, good or bad. At his worst, he's just adequate. So I'd say the odds are good.

Btw if we want to bring up "over-acting," are there any better examples than Bale over-acting both Bruce Wayne and Batman?

As hilarious as the fake drunken speech at the mansion was, the was almost cringe-worthy how he tried to oversell his intoxication.

And I know it's not Batman, but Bale was basically one dimensional in Terminator:Salvation.... that speech over the radio? Someone should tell Bale that yelling loud phrases does not automatically equal inspired leadership. Bale delivered perhaps the 4th best acting performance in that movie, behind Yelchin, Worthington, and Arnold's CGI'd face on the T1000.

Hello all,

First time poster here. I just wanted to share my photomanip with you all. I ended up having to broaden his shoulders to make him look wider.

Nice work! Although the shoulder/collarbone area just reminds me of the Na'Vi from Avatar.

What wasn't there to like about Norton's performance? The sad part is, we didn't even get the full monty because of the cut job they did on the film.

I thought he was every bit as good as RDJ. In fact, I like that movie just a little bit more than Iron Man. I thought the comic feel was far more pervasive.

Is this a bash Bale thread or a thread to talk about Evans?

I too am glad they didn't back down from their promise and choose an American. I have always maintained that it would have been dumb to cast a non-American for the role.

And no I'm not saying that America is the greatest and other places suck.

Yeah, if they'd cast someone non-american than it would be as stupid as casting an Aussie as Thor or a welsh to play Odin. Ohh wait...

So I'm safe to say you don't like the casting of Thor? Since, well, they should be Scandinavian.

Nah, of course not. The casting there is very good, and Evans is good as Captain America. But it would be hypocritical for Americans to dislike it if it was a non-american.

If Charlton Heston could play a Mexican, then well, anything is possible :D

T-Salvation was just god awful in every department. I agree Bale's performance in it was cringe-worthy ....especially that lame effin' speech. The only thing I enjoyed was the CGI Arnold.

Casting a foreign born actor to helm the role of Cap would've been a sign of worldly respect. Just would.

My sentiments exactly.

:funny: Bale wasn't to blame for that sometimes fun but lame movie but he's blah performance sure annoyed the hell out of me.

I don't want this to turn into a this actor versus that actor thread though. Bale is a good actor IMHO but I'm not loving him in action movies.

It was a t-800 though. Just a slight correction.

Is this a bash Bale thread or a thread to talk about Evans?

If you've been keeping up with the thread then you would recognize the relevance of the "over-acting" subject/debate in this thread. That's why I bring up Bale.

Some people have criticized Evans for over-acting, and it seems fit to bring up Bale since 1) I think he tends to over-act and 2) he plays a comic book hero.

But by all means, Thread Police, please take control of this thread. I submit to you.

Was that a Cap manip for a Calvin Klein ad?

BTW, I'm just messin' with you if you read this response Incognito. Welcome to the board! :woot:

from human torch to living legend well done mr. evans

Well I couldn't disagree with you more on the movie and performances.

I liked Norton in American History X but overall I don't care for him as an actor. He's not terrible or anything but I'm not a fan because I don't see anything remotely special about his acting.

Dude seriously.... I'm about to Hulk out right now! j/k

Matter of differing opinions I guess.

I think he just doesn't want this to turn into a "my guy is better than your guy thread." I don't have a problem with your one post or a few others because it does portain to the thread because someone brought up Evans overacting. But lets not lose sight of what the thread is about.

P.S

I disagree that Evans overacts...ofcourse. He was given nothing to do in Push though thus his performance was non-existent.

Glad to see Evans got the role. For anyone who's hasn't watched Sunshine, I recommend them to do so. One of Evans' best roles. While he might not be the greatest choice in the world.....hey, it could have been Channing Tatum.

well i am so dam happy we are finally past the cast steve stage. so we can all loo forward to who nabs the rest of the key roles for the film.

I do believe Norton is a fantastic actor but I don't know, I haven't seen him give a powerhouse performance since AHX. Evans hasn't really been challenged, like ever.

Anyway, I'll wait until I hear this news from the horse's mouth. I don't like when websites run with de facto headlines when nothing has been actually confirmed.

That's fair, I don't want this thread to devolve into a 100% Actor A v. B debate.

And for what it's worth, BBegins and TDK are still two of my faves. I'm not saying Bale is a terrible actor, he's a decent actor. But even decent actors have rough patches.

Chris Evans is one of my favorite young actors at the moment. He's an ok choice for Cap, could have been worse (Krasinski lol), could have been better (Mark Valley, yeah I know...). Would have preferred him for Hawkeye or similar character though, but I don't mind this.

Are you one of those people who still thinks that Hemsworth wasn't cast as Thor?

It's been confirmed. Chris Evans is Captain America.
