Eh. I'm not too overwhelmed with the idea of Evans as Captain America myself but i'll reserve my judgement till the film comes out. I would have preferred a fresh faced unknown with no connection to previous marvel films but , what can you do? He's was pretty good in London though . I didn't think RDJ could pull of Sherlock Holmes and he turned out to give one of the best portrayals of the character imo, so you I can't really Judge until I see the final product.

I love how people think that casting so-called unknowns means that the person can't fail at playing the role.

Yes, an unknown would have been alot of fun but it's not happening now so I'm over it.

This post sounds wayyyy more angry than I mean it too sound.

Michael Keaton was freakin' Beetlejuice the year before he was Batman.... and we're complaining that Evans was already a superhero?

Keaton was in only one non-comedic film before Batman, and Batman turned out ok. If we let resume prejudices completely control our casting choices, no one would ever be cast.

At this point, I'm not going to invest too much in arguing against the anti-Evans crew. When you think about it, every single comic book movie hero has its detractors. There will always be people who don't like Bale's Batman. There will be those who think Jackman is just too large to be Wolverine. Or those who think RDJ is too snarky to play Stark. Or even Ledger is not fit to be Joker.

I've just come to accept that no matter who is cast as Captain America, there will always be detractors.

It's not going to affect my opinion of Evans as Captain America. He's got the look, he's got the charisma, and I think he's talented enough to pull of all the demands of Cap's character. He'll need to show more restraint than in his other movies, but this is what he gets paid to do.

I'd rather Marvel choose an "already was" than a "never was."

You want to talk "charisma"? Michael Keaton was the very definition of it when he played Beetlejuice. Chris Evans has yet to play a role so enveloping.

You're right on the money when you said Evans will need to show some restraint. He's a serial over-actor IMO.

On a side note, it's kind of cool that Chris Evans will have played heroes that have fought Silver Surfer, Galactus, Dr. Doom, and Red Skull. Quite a lineup of villains/opponents.

Btw, it would never happen, but I'd love (but not really love) it if Chris Evans gave the Invaders Human Torch a double take the first time he meets him as Captain America. It would be disastrous but hilarious.

We have a Cap. We have a Red Skull.

Next up:
Peggy Carter
Invaders
Bucky?
Erskine

You wanna see angry? , check out some of the other sections of the board.Lol.

Seriously though ,an unknown or known could both fail in the role . In the end it depends on the actor. I just personally like the idea of casting someone an unknown much in they way they cast Hugh Jackman, Chris Reeve etc. just because the audience believe that the unknown is the character as opposed to seeing say Johnny Depp in a Captain America costume. Doesn't mean an A list actor like Leo DiCaprio couldn't hit it out of the park though.

However it's not like Evans is on the level of Tom Welling in terms of household names so it's ok.I'm just gonna wait to see him in the role before I celebrate.

That's exactly right, you can't make everybody happy and Marvel knows this. That's why Chris Evans is actually the safe choice, much like Ryan Reynolds was for Green Lantern. John Krasinsky would've been the ballsy choice, but obviously they didn't have the guts to alienate the fanbase like that, even if they truly believed in him.

I am happy with the choice. I am sure Evans will do just fine...he definitely has the charisma and most importantly...American!

Chris Evans wasn’t who I wanted to play Captain America, but now that he’s got it there’s nothing more to do than say I think he’s a good actor and I hope he does justice to the character - those are some big boots to fill.

I too am glad they didn't back down from their promise and choose an American. I have always maintained that it would have been dumb to cast a non-American for the role.

And no I'm not saying that America is the greatest and other places suck.

Hello all,

First time poster here. I just wanted to share my photomanip with you all. I ended up having to broaden his shoulders to make him look wider.

It took a while but you know what? I dig it.

It doesn't even bother me that he played Human Torch since they're supposeably going to reboot that series anyway...

RDJ, Norton, Hemsworth and Evans as The Avengers?

Finally we have our cap!!! And I'm happy with this news, I think he will do a great job. Although a little odd because it wasnt too long ago he was the human torch. But those movies werent big enough for the GA to only see the Human Torch on screen acting as Cap.

Wow... im surprised...
i thought Marvel wanted somebody "unknown"
instead they chose the Human Torch?

i am totally glad it is finally over and we now officially have captain america cast. i was totally happy to see evans officially confirmed for the role. I am sure he will do well with the role. He has the look, the charm and with the cast for the supporting players will probably back him up very nicely.

..... I swear to God, if Evans so much as misses one of his marks by an inch he's dead to me! :awesome: j/k.

Sebastian Stan (Romanian, like me) was in the running for the role, and I thought it would've been terrible if he got it! And that's not saying that Romania sucks or anything, just that Captain America is a symbol, and it's not like Kingpin from Daredevil who could be black. He needs to be american. That's just the way it is.

Although I'm not really excited about Chris Evans as Cap, if he does a good job, I'll be willing to admit it. I'm wondering, though, IF he does POORLY, will his supporters be willing to admit it, or will they rationalize by saying it was a bad script or bad directing?

Well so far most of his movies have shouldered "the blame" according to many posters haha ..... We shall see though .... this gon'get interestin'!

I wonder if was my negativity in the Superman forms was as annoying as Rock Sexton's is here?

Please dude, have a sense of humor. A vast majority of what I say is in jest. Although I do have legitimate gripes with the casting process and Evans.

Isn't it funny that they had to get an American actor, but the movie itself is being, partly, filmed in the U.K.?

Since Captain America is an American symbol/icon the entire movie should be shot in America. :woot:

Australia's the greatest. Everyone who counts know that. :oldrazz:
