Official Excalibur and/or Captain Britain movie discussion thread

If my fellow American posters can demand that Captain America only be played by an American, I think it's only fair than us Brits can do the same for Captain Britain.

So, no to the Spirit playing CB for me.

As for Pete, I dont know any of Collins' work, but if he's a good actor and can pull Wisdom's accent off then I dont see why not.

What accent does Pete Wisdom have, anyway? I always imagined him sounding a lot like Michael Cain (I'm an American. I need to use a reference instead of just naming off accents).

Born and raised in London (although I cant find anything that says what area) so yeah, Michael Cain is as good a reference as any.

Bump for Pete Wisdom (even if he is playing Fandrall)

Seeming as his a Constantine knock off I'm thinking sort of Londoner accent. Spike from Buffy kind sounding.

I kinda hope more for a Captain Britain movie more than Captain America as I thought he was a cooler character (Excalibur FTW). And I do think a Brit should definitely play him!

It's not like there's a shortage of British actors out there, even in Hollywood. I don't think anyone could conceive of a non-Brit playing Captain Britain. I mean, it's not like he's Bridget effing Jones.

Any thoughts on who should play Meggan? Psylocke (because she needs to at least make a cameo)?

Joanna Page from Gavin and Stacey/Love Actually could play Meggan.

However, should enough A-List actors express interest in the role, that could change and Pirates of the Carribean and The Lord of the Rings star Orlando Bloom has now said he'd be willing to suit up!

"I do read [Marvel Comics] a little bit," he revealed before mentioning his (vague) desire to play the fan-favourite character. "Who’s the British one? Captain Britain! There you go." While he may look at the odd comic book, it appears as if he doesn't really know that much about Captain Britain, something which became clear when he admitted: "Terrible costume, though. And you’ve also got Captain America so what you going to do? Captain Britain versus Captain America?" Well, that and more!

I very much do not want to see this

Yeah, Orlando Bloom could pass as Slaymaster, but that's about it.

Sadly, Henry Cavill would have been perfect for Captain Britain.

Ah well.

Hope they're thinking about him over at Disney.

Talk about necro-threads.

I do think that a Captain Britain film of sorts may be on the cards for phase 4 as the whole Arthurian lore angle is something that the movies haven't explored yet. It's a rich new avenue for the MCU. But a major retool is in order.

They should definitely go with the Excalibur branding. Having three Captain Noun franchises in the MCU may be a little much; even if there is little actual connection between them the title may put audience's off and make them think it's a Captain America rip off. Plus the whole flag wearing, physical embodiment of a country shtick is just not Britain's style of patriotism. It works for America, but in the context of British culture, a roided up flag waver would have connotations of xenophobia at best.

So we go with Excalibur as the title. Position Brian Braddock and his sister Psylocke as co-leads, with Merlyn, Roma, Meggan, Kitty Pryde and Lockheed in major supporting roles. British East-Asian actors for both Psylocke and Brian Braddock. A more knightly costume for braddock, with subtler flag symbolism, like the new Captain America costumes in the movies.

I'd take Orlando Bloom for him. I do think it'd be nice to take the Ult. look of him as a starting point.

My ideal choice for Braddock/Britain would be James Norton (Flatliners, McMafia, Grantchester, War and Peace)

Dan Stevens, said it for a long time, born for the role.

How about Sam Claflin?

Norton is a great suggestion.

Cheers.
He has the right sort of posh-plummy mixed with gruff voice, good physique, strong jawline, and if he dyes his hair blonde as above for his exposed 'mop-top' in his regal lion costume before we get to the Union Flag costume, that would be fantastic to see.

I like Claflin and I wouldn't mind seeing him in a comic book movie. However, he would probably fit a lot of different characters. James Norton feels like he stepped straight out of a Captain Britain comic so my vote goes to him.

I’m not so much interested in the lead as I am the style of the movie. Rather than going for captain america’s territory with spy fi and patriotism, it would be interesting to explore more of the magic stuff and go for a Gaimanesque feel

Having Arthurian elements running through the film would I think differentiate tonally from the spy-fi and patriotism of Captain America. Of course we'd have the London skyline but if it goes to rural places connected to the legend such as Glastonbury, Tintagel or parts of Snowdonia, Wales it will hopefully give it that vibe that served films such as Excalibur (1981) and the Clive Owen King Arthur film (2004) so well. Just as long as it doesn't go over the top as in the last King Arthur: Legend of the Sword film we had last year.

Arthurian mythology and multiverse stuff is captain Britain's thing.

It would probably be closer to the Thor, legion and doctor strange than captain America

Union jack is marvel's British espionage superhero.

What are people's thoughts on the whole multiverse thing? I know the MCU has gone to some pretty crazy places but is it ready for easily accessible multiple dimensions? I could see the Captain Britain Corps simply reimagined as a lineage of warriors going back to the middle ages.
