Rise of the Silver Surfer Official: Fantastic Four 2 Novelization Discussion MAJOR SPOILERS!

Ah, my fault. The problem for me is:
if they go the route of the book, there is no interaction between the FF and the big G, which was a highlight of the 616 first meeting. In the book they don't even "meet" him and I don't like that. I hope you're right and there are some differences between the book and the film!

By the way, what movie is your avvy from? That's pretty funny!

Good Luck Chuck

This is going to give away part of the whole ending of the movie, so if you really want to have some surprises left, DO NOT CLICK THIS SPOILER:

They make it to earth and are beginning the process of sucking the energy out, but the surfer, after seeing the bravery and heart of the Fantastic Four, leads them away. That's a big reason that I think there has to be a "real" galactus somewhere. If the swarm actually was Galactus, how could they make a deal with Surfer to save his planet? How could they be so easily led away if they were capable of any actual thought?

I assume Galactus is using the swarm as his method for sucking the energy out of the planets.

And with those assumptions it does open up some interesting possibilities for the next film (either FF or SS). Even without a specific cliff-hanger, there is clearly some unfinished business here.

Hmmmmmmmm
so do they actually fight these ships or does SS just lead them away telepathicaly ?

*sighs*

Guys ya'll are going to know the entire movie......think.....think about this......

I have been going through this thread reading nothing but the comments. I have not clicked on a single show button.

Its pathetic. Feels like unrequited love.

Empty, souless, unfullfilling.

And yet I remain strong, feasting only on the sense of satisfaction or dissapointment of others.

How long shall I endure this cursed life.

I knew it should never have been done.

I appeal to the mods, we will all be lost soon.

Now that most have had their fill the thread should be closed.

Because I too now know the unadulterated truth.

I too am weak and will not last much longer.

Who (LS?, Hunter?) shall deliver us from this evil.

Buck up, Man! It's okay. :cwink:
I've read all the spoilers, and as far as I'm concerned, I know very little that I didn't already know or assume.
And the few potential "trouble spots" may very well be a lack of descriptiveness on the part of the author doing the adaptation - possibly under instructions.
There's little doubt in my mind that we're in for a few surprises when the movie opens...in just 59 days!
:ff:

Not by you, but by FOX. For the first movie we were given hints that Doom would develop throughout the film into something like the comic character. Didn't happen. Wallpapers, posters and promotional pictures promised a Thing with a brow, more imposing height and realistic rocky appearance. Didn't happen.

We were promised Full Doom, Galactus and a more faithful adaption for the sequel, and from the sound of the novel, it looks like it won't happen.

Hmmmmmm.....What I remember of their talk about Doom, was what Story wanted, but didn't get....

And I don't remember ever seeing or hearing about a brow on Thing, all I remember is the fanboys upset that we never saw a pic with a brow.....

but honestly.....what I've read of the novelization (and I haven't finished it, nor will I before the movie....), and what I've read from interviews and what not....are not different......its just that we believe there will be more than the novelization and what we have heard once the movie comes out.....

Even if there are differences, I'd say it's almost certain that the FF won't have any interaction with Galactus.

It's possible (though probably still unlikely that we could get something like Galactus saying): "What?!?! The Surfer dares defy me? Then he shall suffer the consequences. So speaks Galactus!"

. . . Yeah, you're right. Fox probably doesn't have the guts to do that either.

They don't really fight them. They're too busy with Doom, and besides, there are too many. It would be like swatting at locusts. You might kill a few, but it wouldn't really change anything.

Was it even a bunch of ships? I thought it was just a giant storm with an intelligence. Like an enormous hurricane made up of smaller hurricanes? Maybe I read it wrong.

You tempter. :cwink:

Okay, here are some more pretty major spoilers, so read at your own risk:

This is the really weird part (and I've discussed it in some detail on the thread over on F4 movies, so you may want to check that out). . . the book never describes Doom "in full armor" so that was a BIG disappointment, but statements from Tim Story and Julian McMahon CLEARLY describe "full armor".

At this point, I have to assume that the book doesn't really cover the details that will be in the film and Doom will be in full armor at the point when he has the Surfer's power, but I've been confused by that point.

Also with Galactus. There's no mention in the book of classic Galactus, but many statements from studio reps seem to indicate there's more there than the book would imply.

The Surfer clearly mentions his "deal" to save his planet (which would seem to require something like a classic Galactus), but in the book all we see is the seemingly mindless Ultimate swarm.

My assumption is that classic Galactus exists within the frame of this story, but we don't get to see him (again as told by the book). He's off in space somewhere waiting for the swarm to bring him his meal.

I suspect that classic Galactus exists and the studio plans to unveil him either here or in a sequel (featuring either the FF or SS). The book implies that the Surfer will pay a price for his actions (saving the earth from the swarm) and that wouldn't be possible unless there was a classic Galactus somewhere.

I think part of the hesitation from the studios point of view is that they don't want to be locked into a design for classic Galactus just for a few seconds of film time on this movie. . .

. . . and considering all the comments we've heard from different people involved on the film, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if there is a scene of classic Galactus that they are trying to keep very secret.

. . . one thing is sure though. We won't see him walking the skys of New York city. If he exists (and I'm nearly certain he does) he is probably off in space somewhere for this particular film.

So basically; Fox has adapted FF #48 through #50, but has decided to...leave Galactus out? :whatever:

Enjoy the film guys. Pass. :down

Hmmmmmm.....What I remember of their talk about Doom, was what Story wanted, but didn't get....
I remember definite allusions to a growth in Doom's character.

And I don't remember ever seeing or hearing about a brow on Thing, all I remember is the fanboys upset that we never saw a pic with a brow.....
There was a wallpaper on the website that had an image of the Thing that was manipulated with a brow.

but honestly.....what I've read of the novelization (and I haven't finished it, nor will I before the movie....), and what I've read from interviews and what not....are not different......its just that we believe there will be more than the novelization and what we have heard once the movie comes out.....
You believed that last time. Didn't happen.

Was it even a bunch of ships? I thought it was just a giant storm with an intelligence. Like an enormous hurricane made up of smaller hurricanes? Maybe I read it wrong.

You could be right. I guess I may be projecting the little I know of Ultimate Gal Lak Tus onto what they actually were. As with many details, I don't remember the novelist taking much effort to actually describe what they looked like, and I may be adding too much of my own detail to assume the "storm" was actually a bunch of little robots/ships.

I just finished the book and this was the most disappointing, out-of-character act of Doom for me:

When Reed finished telling off the General and Doom follows the general out of the room like a puppy. I know he was just wanting to find out where the nboard was and get permission to examine it, but this incarnation of Doom is a shadow of what the true comic Doom SHOULD be onscreen. Sad.

Hmmmm... so does this mean that...
This is Doom in human form. They could be leaving this open for a Doombot appearance. Julian has hinted about that before.

At least you have to give JMS credit for getting Doom right in his one FF appearance. He came to the US witih a swarm of Doombots when he wanted to claim Thor's hammer. He sure didn't go through diplomatic channels for that...:woot:. Of course, he may be doing it just to make it seem like he is following protocol. I hope the scene plays better in the movie.

It seems to be Doom in human form but it is never made clear. We know we've seen a pic of Ben with Doom in human form pressed against a wall. In the book it is never clear: at times it seems he is in human form, at others he has the metal skin, and I'm not sure if he's EVER in his armor so so much for "full-on Doom" if that is true!:csad:
