Official: Gotham City Sirens directed by David Ayer - Part 1

My guess is the Bird of Prey might not actually be the traditional lineup of Barbara, Canary and Huntress. They may very well use Katana from SS in place of one of them, or have Catwoman be on the good guys side.

Can't imagine the budget for this movie being anymore than 50 mill

Huge mistake if true IMO. Classic BOP lineup is by far the best option

No argument from me there. In theory its should be pretty straight forward, Batgirl/Oracle, Huntress and Canary vs Harley, Ivy and Catwoman. But the fact they've got multiple stories with different characters indicates to me it's either going to be BOP v GCS in name only, or it's not going to end up being called BOP/GCS at all and they just using the all-girl team concept.

If the news that this project is a go has merit behind it, then I'm good with that; I'd rather see this than I would a bunch of individual films focusing on Deadshot, Harley Quinn (who didn't steal the show in Suicide Squad) and the Joker.

Regarding the team though, whilst yes, it would be great if the film focused on the core six members; Batgirl, Huntress, Black Canary, Harley Quinn, Catwoman & Poison Ivy, I don't mind a shakeup; it's not as if the other team-films started with their original teams; Suicide Squad had a different original group, and the Justice League (which was co founded by Hawkgirl & a Green Lantern) added Cyborg in their stead.

Either way, I know they've said Batgirl and Harley Quinn are the only confirmed characters at this point, but I'll be truly amazed if Catwoman isn't practically guaranteed at this point.

Hawkgirl and John Stewart were only founding members in the cartoon, not the comics.

Didn't know about Hawkgirl, but the original Justice League was founded by the DCEU team with the exception of Cyborg, and the inclusion of Hal Jordan and Martian Manhunter.

In any case, my point is that the writers of this GCS film don't need to have the group be the characters we're mostly familiar with.

It’s quite common for them to ask for several scripts and smoosh together the bits they like

I'm trying to think what the other characters are. You would have to assume one version has the traditional line up of the BOP and GCS. As for the other version I could see Katana replacing Huntress as she was already in SS, or even having Catwoman be on the BOP team. I don't know who the alternate villains could be though. Lady Shiva or Talia al Ghul maybe? Killer Frost, Livewire perhaps? I honestly don't see how you can do either team without Canary and Ivy though, it just wouldn't seem right, but apparently there's a script where neither are present.

It was my understanding that the Gotham City Sirens was Catwoman, Ivy & Harley; I wasn't aware that, unlike the Birds of Prey, there had been other members?

With the Birds of Prey you can include the likes of Vixen, Gypsy, Katana, Hawkgirl etc

This movie is so easy. BOP (Batgirl, Black Canary, Huntress) vs the GCS (Harley, Catwoman, Poison Ivy)

I feel like having six main characters might be a bit too much for the first movie.

This sounds less likes Birds of Prey and more like a DC's all-star female team up film, with Harley Quinn as the lead. It's being referred to internally as... "untitled Harley Quinn girl gang movie"

Either way, I'm all in! :hq:

Margot's Harley is the only thing DCEU related that I care about and she deserves a well received film, to legitimize her status in the genre after Suicide Squad. (Like Patty Jenkins did for Wonder Woman, after BvS)

I love Harley Quinn and I adore Margot Robbie. I'd be a shame if she was wasted and became another DCEU casualty.

I'm also happy that they choose the one Harley Quinn spin-off, that Margot herself has been developing, producing and has been completely hands-on with.

Yeah I mean all the concepts for DC movies seem easy but execution is a lot harder

Not really when there often exists a working blueprint for these movies in the form of animated shows/movies

Which is a different medium. You can copy the best DCAU movie into a live-action film scene for scene and 9 times out of 10 and it'll be a bad product. How many animated shows/movies turned live-action have actually turned out good? It's like saying making a video game movie is easy because all you have to do is copy the storyline.

It probably would have made more sense to first introduce the likes of Catwoman & Batgirl in a Batman solo before bringing them in for another film, potentially one where Batman doesn't appear (though I'd very much like a cameo from Batman, Joker, and the Green Arrow - especially if Black Canary is actually used). As much as I'm for this project, I can't help but think that (with the exception of Harley), fans just aren't going to care or relate all that much with the other characters because we know noting about them.

Suicide Squad had more...

I detect bias. :p

Posted this down in ‘The Batman’ Barbara Gordon thread, but think it’s relevant here as well-

With Batgirl the apparent co-lead with Harley in the Birds of Prey film, which is said to lead into the Batgirl solo movie (and yes, I know lots of stuff gets announced/leaked- but this feels real), I’m looking at Margot Robbie’s influence as a producer on BoP (she wanted a female writer- Hodson, check. She wanted a female director- Yan, check), and I’m thinking that Robbie’s good friend Saoirse Ronan (just search ‘Saoirse Ronan Margot Robbie friends’ and you’ll see) is a pretty solid bet right now for the role of Barbara.

I’ve thought the same thing. She’d be perfect for the role too

Batgirl - Saoirse Ronan
Black Canary - Charlize Theron
Huntress - Alicia Vikander

Harley Quinn - Margot Robbie
Poison Ivy - Evan Rachel Wood
Catwoman - Ruth Negga
