I'd be fine with an FF approach to it. He might not be superpowered, but he's never been about using his money to outfit his superhero identity either (aside from the arrowthemed bat knockoffs which we try to ignore). No need for armour or clever circuitry in the suit. As Dr Light said to Ollie - the man is the embodiment of what one ordinary man can do; no gadgets, no powers, no supersuits, no magic. Just a fighter with a simple weapon (I'm paraphrasing).

So a little of his pocket cash spent on a durable, stretchy material, possibly with a thin weave kevlar or carbon nanotubes in the chest area is enough "realistic cleverness" for me to be perfectly happy with essentially spandex and the leatherish tunic. Loving his current appearance without the hat though - so that design would be perfect in my opinion.

I'm supprised that this hasn't been mentioned:

New news on Super Max has been a long time coming. The state of play was this: Justin Marks was scripting, David Goyer was producing, DC comics’ Green Arrow was the lead character and the plot would see him incarcerated in the tip-topper most high security prison in the DC universe, framed for a crime he didn’t commit.

There have been any number of rumors surrounding the project along the way. Would Matt Damon star as the Green Arrow? Would Kevin Smith direct? Would Lex Luthor, The Riddler or The Joker appear? It has generated a healthy bag full of headlines over a couple of years without actually going into production, or even pre-production. Nonetheless, slow and steady can often win the race and Super Max is still chugging along steadily. David Goyer has spoken to MTV and given an update. Here’s the man himself:

We’re working on that. We’re about to bring on another writer. Obviously, Warner Bros. is now heavily into mining all of the various DC properties.

Ah, bollocks... so they're still trying to push this thing eh.

I'd prefer it if Supermax weren't mentioned here. I think there's a thread for it specifically and my distaste for the idea is.... well, I cannot begin to describe how much I loathe the concept

It would be fresh of an idea; to me, it needs a major rewrite but I love the concept.

I do not want to be flamed, but I think the actor of Smallville, Justin Hartley, is neat and I personally would like to see him as Green Arrow. It does not mean doing the same thing, but I think he has what is needed. Furthermore, he is young, the time a film is made, he will be perfect, with the moustache and all, I would like this.

I think he can handle the superhero part without problem, I think he does great with business Oliver Queen. The only "problems" I have is that I think he could handle Ollie as just a man if he was less stoic and calm (in smallville he is always calm, Ollie has a kind of versatility). The only thing I'm not sure is the "social Ollie" side of Green Arrow. I do not see J.Hartley playing Ollie as a man preoccupied by what happens in the streets, the guy helping homeless and associations. I do not see it in his eyes or on his face. That is the only thing that bugs me a bit.

Clarky, I won't flame you. After reading your post, there's very earnest about your enthusiasm.

Well, Ollie is somewhat like Robert Downey Jr's version of Tony Stark, but more left wing and socially conscious.
I don't know if the Smallville version of Ollie is like that or not. It doesn't matter however.

Smallville's Oliver Queen is just a ripoff on the Silverage Batman.

It's nothing like the Mike Grell Longbow Hunter of the contemporary comics or the JL/JLU version.

The modern Green Arrow would never form a team like the Justice League; he's 100% anti-establishment, and extremely left wing. He had to be coerced to even be in the JL.

Was reading about the news of the supermax film getting a new writer. I wonder what will change in script, then if it will actually get green lit by wb.

This movie sounds like a terrible idea. So it's a Green Arrow movie with Green Arrow not using his arrows?

Its Green arrow without his arrows (though maybe with a makeshift something that fires something akin to arrows/darts despite the characters distain for crossbows), without his goatee, without his costume, and probably without a single GA villain.

It can't be called supermax without it being like, 80% in the prison. The rest would be a cheap attempt at trying to convince us it is actually green arrow.

Man of Tomorrow: I do agree with you to a point. Though the current GA is the kind of guy who's happy in a team, provided they are going about it the right way. The Outsiders, Hal's Cry for Justice - both provide the direction Ollie has always felt the JL needs. Not sitting up in space as virtual Gods above the little man. But peopel with the ability to do right doing so to prevent wrong from happening

I think its a great idea for a character that I can't honestly see them making a movie for even though he's a good character. I'm sure the script is going to be re-written because I doubt they would put the joker in there anymore, with the superman franchise going nowhere they dont have a luthor, and depending on what nolan is doing with batman 3 the riddler may not be available.

I really like the hooded Green Arrow Costume. I can't find any picture but the DC universe MMO thats coming out is what I would like to see his costume look like.

I know we disagree on the Superman boards quite often, but I agree with you 100% here.

For a Green Arrow movie to stand out, the character needs to be the anti-establishment, left wing radical Longbow Hunter. Thats the Green Arrow that I love, the Green Arrow that took Batman's place as my favorite non-powered hero......thats right everybody, I said it.

i do have to say in the script, they shaved Ollie's hair and goatee. I say..don't do it. Just leave it. There's no reason for that.

Instead of using such well known villains, this would be the perfect time to introduce the lesser known villains, since so many will be used at once. One of those villains of "lesser status" wouldn't be able to carry a film as the single villain but teamed up with a bunch of other villains of "lesser status" it could work.

It would be a waste to use Lex, Joker, Riddler etc... IMO. Besides, why would they all be in the same prison? Wouldn't they be separated depending on which city the villain is from? And wouldn't the Joker be in an asylum instead of a prison?

Exactly what I was thinking flawless, all the batman villains would probably be in arkham save for the penguin because he's not really insane. I could see that they would want to use a batman villain just for some publicity and I think with goyer on the project they will. Someone like the penguin could do the trick because he's popular thanks to the 60's batman tv show.

I'm not to familiar with green arrows villains so I don't know who they could use. They would also need to use some villains that the audience will like if there going to help green arrow escape. I see a lot of potential in this concept so it really all depends on the execution.

The movie is filled with second-string villains. The big guns are barely mentioned.

there were some that they could switch out. Instead of 'Blockbuster', put in Solomon Grundy. Or put in Deathstroke in there instad so and so.

Well in that article that said dc was moving forward didnt they mention that there developing 2 green arrow films, one being supermax, the other being an origin.

I just want to see something made with The Green Arrow period!

I havent read Supermax, I cant find it, so Im not going to doubt if it's good or not. But still it doesnt sound like it's a good idea for the first Live action Green Arrow movie. Maybe after a director or 2 had their run with the character and the GA is more comfortable with the character SuperMax would be a good idea.
I heard it had some flashbacks to his origin, but since they're adapting him to the screen for the first time it would be better to do straight Origin tale I think.
SuperMax it would be different and that's a plus but I still think it would be to risky

I would like josh holloway or jon hamm or simon baker for Green Arrow.

Simon Baker (The Mentalist right?) might be a good Ollie. Seems like he can pull of confidence, charm and borderline arrogance quite well in his series.

Agreed, he's been my favorite for a while now.
