For some reason, I never thought Berlanti would end up directing it.
Yeah, I felt the same way. It's one of those feelings where you know things won't work out but can't explain it.
I just hope they get this movie off the ground soon.
P.S How about Matthew Bomer as Hal Jordan / Green Lantern.

Emile Hirsh.Who should play Kyle Rayner.
It looks like the WB is serious enough about the film to want a more competent director (The Major was right). What is interesting to note is that Campbell has some experience with police based films/TV shows, but no real space based Sci-Fi action/dramas. Not to say that he couldn't do one, but it will be interesting to see if the direction the film take will be one that has a lot of focus on the policing nature of the Green Lantern Corps.

I think it might reflect how big a deal the WB suits think Green Lantern is now. They might have been happy to let a relative newcomer to the world of directing have a go at it at first. But perhaps the script they've seen shows such promise, and the possibility of franchise is so tangible, that they felt the project is now big enough to justify a bigger director? Maybe they're looking at this, for the first time, as a potential tentpole property?
I would say, however, that Berlanti being given this smaller project to direct by WB is his reward for bringing GL to them, and giving him a chance to earn his stripes and position him better to direct a future big movie.

You've got it correct, McClay.I think The Major's concern was that Berlanti wouldn't be able to handle something this size as his first big-studio pic. While Martin Campbell hasn't worked a lot on CGI-heavy films, he does have experience shouldering big-budget fare like Casino Royale and the Zorro pics. (I'm gonna let Vertical Limit slide since that happened nearly a decade ago.)
And Berlanti will still be involved -- as one of the co-writers and producers.
Good choice, should be interesting who Campbell casts, he did go outside the box with casting Daniel Craig as Bond.
