Anyway, what do you guys think of the new director Martin Campbell?

interesting if its true but we dont have wb confirming this yet.

For some reason, I never thought Berlanti would end up directing it.

Let's just get this thing going already! Start shooting in May, cast this sucker in March. I hope Barlanti is still playing a major part since he did shepard it this far.

It looks like the WB is serious enough about the film to want a more competent director (The Major was right). What is interesting to note is that Campbell has some experience with police based films/TV shows, but no real space based Sci-Fi action/dramas. Not to say that he couldn't do one, but it will be interesting to see if the direction the film take will be one that has a lot of focus on the policing nature of the Green Lantern Corps.

Yeah, it's kinda how when they announce a movie, sometimes I have a feeling that the movie will be in Development Hell forever. For example, I think the Predator 'reboot won't go anywhere for a very long time. Just a feeling!

So with Martin involved, now we can hope for a great leading actor and move the production forward.

Well, Alan Horn, did say that Green Lantern was his best guess at the next superhero property coming out of the WB, and that it was pretty much on the "runway" so to spear and almost ready. It could be that they are waiting to sign the right director and then it's a go.

I just hope they get this movie off the ground soon.

P.S How about Matthew Bomer as Hal Jordan / Green Lantern.

yea i too hope filming starts up in the next few months so we can see this sucker come out next summer.

I think The Major's concern was that Berlanti wouldn't be able to handle something this size as his first big-studio pic. While Martin Campbell hasn't worked a lot on CGI-heavy films, he does have experience shouldering big-budget fare like Casino Royale and the Zorro pics. (I'm gonna let Vertical Limit slide since that happened nearly a decade ago.)

And Berlanti will still be involved -- as one of the co-writers and producers.

I think it might reflect how big a deal the WB suits think Green Lantern is now. They might have been happy to let a relative newcomer to the world of directing have a go at it at first. But perhaps the script they've seen shows such promise, and the possibility of franchise is so tangible, that they felt the project is now big enough to justify a bigger director? Maybe they're looking at this, for the first time, as a potential tentpole property?

I would say, however, that Berlanti being given this smaller project to direct by WB is his reward for bringing GL to them, and giving him a chance to earn his stripes and position him better to direct a future big movie.

I thought so too.

The possible appointment of such a seasoned director as Campbell gets me excited.

It shows intent.

My thoughts as well, if his directing project does well, I can see them offering him another DC franchise (potentially). GL is coming, so is Jonah hex, and the Flash has a new writer, maybe down the line Berlanti will get something like

I have no problem with him directing Hawkman. If he screws up, well... No biggie. Hawkman's not exactly anyones favourite superhero.. and if he delivers the goods then it'll be like Favreau's Iron Man and he'll introduce the character to the mainstream public...

That's exactly why I chose Hawkman. His name is known, and generally the way he looks, but the general public knows nothing about him, yet he has franchise potential IMO.

I started a thread about a hawkman movie just now, too.

Yeah, I do think that the other project for Berlanti was a reward for his good work getting Green Lantern this far. And a chance to gain more experience. Who knows, Berlanti's big budget debut could be Green Lantern 2.

You've got it correct, McClay.

Good choice i love casino royale and goldeneye hopefully this movie will be great.

Good choice, should be interesting who Campbell casts, he did go outside the box with casting Daniel Craig as Bond.

Hey! I liked Vertical Limit!

Great choice. Campbell is a great Director. There is definitely hope for this movie.
