For GL, casting an established actor as Hal Jordan would make more of a difference than in other properties.
Superman is Superman, so even with a little known actor named Christopher Reeve or Brandon Routh, the character sells the movie. Same with Batman, although Bale was already recognizable and as good as they come. Harry Potter is another example.
GL can and will be a great blockbuster on par with HP and Batman, but its not an instant cultural icon. A Josh Hartnett, Ryan Gosling, Jake Gyllenhaal, etc. would help reach out to more of an audience. Iron Man wasn't too much of a recognizable hero before the first movie this year, but Robert Downey Jr. being a veteran and accomplished actor helped carry it.

Exactly, and established talented actor is needed for this role.

I would accept, Josh Hartnett, Edward Burns, Gyllenhaal, or Franco.

They're gonna have to make Kilowog CG/prosthetic because while he's just standing around shooting the **** he can be mostly practical, but when it comes time for him to start running and getting hurt or dishing out hurt, CG will be needed.

Monaghan for Carol....?

I really like her, but I think she's not quite there, looks-wise.

Personally, I like Michelle Ryan for Carol.

Edward Burns would make an incredible Hal Jordan, but at 40 years old, he's older than what they want for the role now.

My bad...I didn't know Burns was 40? Wow, he don't look forty...he looks more like 34 years of age, but not 40. He can pass for an early 30 year old though.

Prosthetics and Jim Hensons creature shop style is the way to go. CGI should not be used too much for the look of the alien creatures
At least not for everyone of them.
They can put a green mask on the digital Alvin the chipmunk for Ch'p.

Oh yeah, I think Duhamel would do a good job as well.

I think Duhamel is the guy to go for.
When I think of Hal Jordan, I think of a confident, almost cocky, guy. He is very-strong-willed and has no fear.
Therefore, I have no idea why they seem to be casting from the same pool of candidates that should be playing Spider-Man instead (Gosling, Casey Affleck, Gyllenhaal).

Josh Lucas can do this, too.

They're safer.

Casey Affleck would be awesome. As for Joshes I get a good guy vibe from Duhamel while Lucas gives me more of a villainous vibe.

It kinda pains me that he's (Duhamel) ideal for the script they have written. Gosling would have been a mistake.

Now, if we can get someone who can play cocky like Duhamel would, but have gravitas...Based on looks alone, I would go with Worthington, but I really don't know how good of an actor he is. I guess good enough to land a part in Avatar...

Good enough to be the lead in Avatar, and in the new Terminator, in Clash of the Titans and in a thriller with Helen Mirren.

I'll do a collage later but my choices for various Green Lantern's would be as follows:

Alan Scott-Mark Harmon
Hal Jordan-Josh Duhamel
John Stewart-Idris Elba
Guy Gardner-Scott Caan
Kilowog-John Goodman

Monaghan has the looks and talent for normal Carol, I'm just skeptical she could be a convincing Star Saphire for the sequels.

As much as I like Michelle Monaghan, she's in her mid thirties, and therefore I fear she'd be a bit too old for a 27 year old Hal. I'd be okay with her being Catwoman, though. She'd be a good match for Bale, I think.

I see you went with my John Stewart choice, and I would only agree if it was only John Goodman's voice and either another actor in prosthetics or a really good CGI character. Also I'm diggin your Guy and Hal choices.
