I haven't seen SB yet but isn't that much closer to DD then Broken Hearts Club to GL?

How so?

Speilberg directed 6 films before gettting into tv then did 5 tv movies and directed 6 tv episodes and finally another film before going onto Jaws, a movie much easier to make then a space opera like GL will be and Spielberg didn't expect the movie to be a blockbuster, either. Berlanti needs GL to be one.

Random thoughts.

There's a reason that Simon Birch wasn't called A Prayer for Owen Meaney. Irving absolutely hated the adaptation. Also, it's no more an action film than a romantic comedy is. (Although, let's face it, having as much experience as MSJ had, isn't setting the bar very high.)

Let's not go with Spielberg directed 6 movies prior to television. He made some amateur shorts and student films that happened to get released later because he's one of the most important directors in the world. (An 8 mm shot with a bunch of friends is more an indication of interest than preparation for directing an actual commercial film.) He directed some television episodes and Sugarland Express and then adapted a big blockbuster novel, which by all accounts was an extremely difficult, overbudget shoot that may have been partially saved by scrambling on the fly and deciding NOT to show the shark for much of the film.

Honestly, I'll bet a Hollywood production with some greenscreen work will be a lot easier than Jaws was to shoot. Shooting on location on water is one of the most difficult challenges to filmmakers. Lots of resources to lean on when you can just walk across the lot to discuss things with colleagues.

The biggest difference is not experience, it's that Spielberg was uber-talented and a once a generation talent. I'll agree, Berlanti doesn't fit that bill. OTOH, a producer in television is a hands on job. He's not someone that was sitting in an office somewhere collecting a check, but writing, working with directors, visiting sets, etc.

I guess it sounds like he'd be up for it but like most actors who play superheroes he doesn't have much prior knowledge. No biggie. If the script gets the character right and the direction is good then he won't even have to look to the comics for inspiration (like Ledger's Joker. Wasn't it said that the guy didn't even bother opening the comics he was given and just winged it in his performance?).

Heath Ledger was avoiding character study on the joker for a long time because he didn't want to get into it.

look what we got.

yeah, but Gosling was pretty blunt about not being interested in the genre and thinking that people will be watching him for reasons he doesnt want to be watched for. I dont remember Ledger being so blunt. Wasnt it his insight to the Joker that helped get him in the job in the first place?

Add some white steaks to his hair? Whoever wrote this article must not know what Hal looks like.

If Vinnie Chase hadn't already played Aquaman I'd suggest him...:woot:

Is it really that hard of a mistake to make.

Hmmm ok. I guess I don't really know. Point taken. He's usually without white though.

I don't think Christian Bale was a comic book/superhero fan before he started playing Batman, recalling some article. So Gosling shouldn't be ruled out.

He said he wasnt but I seem to recall more recent interviews were he's retconned that and admitted to being into some of the more 'darker' works of Batman before he was cast.

Bale still isn't a superhero/comic book fan, but he enjoys the darker takes on Batman where the character gets to be a "badass," in Bale's own words.

Tom Jane signed on to the Punisher for pretty much the same reason.

Neither one of them are that interested in superheroes as a whole. But both of them had a preexisting attraction to the action genre.

Thomas Jane is a fan of the genre....that's why he finds an excuse to go to SDCC every year...in '07 he was one of the judges for the IFF and this year he was promoting 'Mutant Chronicles'

Jane co-wrote Bad Planet and is good friends with writer Steve Niles. Hes used as the model for all the most recent Cal MacDonald covers.

I remember Bale saying that he wasnt interested in Batman or Bond because he was afraid of typecast (like 2 years or so prior to Begins). Nolan seems to be the bigger element to why Bale signed on. Hes always seemed more loyal to Nolan than batman anyway

And he had artist friends do a mock up of hims as Jonah Hex in hopes of getting that role.

Looking at some other parts, any suggestions for Sinestro or Carol Ferris?

Sinestro is a fairly juicy part and you really should be able to shoot for someone with a good resume. Hugo Weaving seems like a fairly obvious choice, although there's no knowing if he's interested.

I really think that the alien GLs should be a mix of guys in makeup, guys in full suits, and pure cgi, maybe with some motion capture mixed in. I think Kilowog should, at the very least, be someone who is actually on set that can interact with people as I think that helps performances. Stating the obvious, but I bet Ron Perlman would work.

Timothy Dalton for Sinestro....He has the build and he'd look good rocking the mustache....people seriously need to get off Hugo Weavings nuts

Also, Hugo Weaving also played Agent Smith and voiced Megatron. How many franchise baddies is he gonna play?

If Heath Ledger did a character study on the Joker sooner - he would still be alive :csad:

When will they learn!

As much as I love Dalton; I'm actually thinking of Robert Knepper as Sinestro.

Josh Duhamel - Hal Jordan
Timothy Dalton - Sinestro
Robert Patrick - Abin Sur

tough decision for Carol Ferris...there are a lot of women who can play that role
