I doubt it was an ego thing, didnt he comment when he was rumoured for batman in JLA that he felt he wasnt right for it. I could see it being that or possibly because of a three picture deal/money which i mentioned before. Thanks for posting the pic dd44. He wouldnt be a bad choice.

No problem, and I could see him in the role.

Hmm...what about Jake Gyllenhaal, or perhaps (can't believe I'm suggesting him cause I have never been a fan of his) Mark Wahlberg?

Wahlberg is a good choice.

Gyllenhaal would fit Spider-man or Kyle Rayner better then Hal.

That's just my opinion...'The Believer' is an all time favorite of mine, along with Half-Nelson...I like him, but I think he works well doing films that have a lot of substance...I honestly feel he is above doing a CBF....I hope to see him hold an Oscar one day....
Being in "Batman and Robin" didn't stop George Clooney from winning an Oscar.

I'd be on board with Gyllenhaal. He has screen-tested for both Superman and Batman, so he's clearly on top of the superhero genre, unlike Gosling. Might be a better pick for Spider-Man, but I could definitely see him work as Hal.

I don't know if I could get behind Gylenhall as Spider-Man....his dome is too frakin huge.....I can only imagine what it would look like covered in the Spidey mask

I would also say matthew fox if he wasnt it speed bomb so I wonder if they would take another chance on him. He is a good actor though. I'm really curious to see who they get now.

I like Matthew Fox....I think he'd make a good Hawkeye....Speed Racer is a guilty pleasure movie for me....

For GL, casting an established actor as Hal Jordan would make more of a difference than in other properties.
Superman is Superman, so even with a little known actor named Christopher Reeve or Brandon Routh, the character sells the movie. Same with Batman, although Bale was already recognizable and as good as they come. Harry Potter is another example.
GL can and will be a great blockbuster on par with HP and Batman, but its not an instant cultural icon. A Josh Hartnett, Ryan Gosling, Jake Gyllenhaal, etc. would help reach out to more of an audience. Iron Man wasn't too much of a recognizable hero before the first movie this year, but Robert Downey Jr. being a veteran and accomplished actor helped carry it.

If Gosling is out, maybe its worth reiterating this:

I'm probably the only person who thinks this, but ever since that fake John Goodman as Kilowog article mentioned it, I've been thinking that James Franco would make an interesting out-of-left-field choice for Hal Jordan.

I do like the idea of Franco as Jordan. I think hes much better suited for the role than Gosling and Affleck. Both are undeniably talented but they have made names for themselves as introverted characters, and Hal is very much an extrovert. Hes also a growing talent. He'll be in Milk which is a high profile Oscar-bait kinda movie. and Raimi was eyeing him for Jack Ryan. After this that could spark back up

Franco was good in 'Shattered Glass' but when I think of him that image of him doing the Twist haunts my brain....

Shattered Glass? I dont remember him, and IMDB doesnt have it on his filmography. Thats the Hayden Christianson movie right?

You're right, I'm wrong...sorry....ok Franco still did the Twist and went all Melrose Place in SM3...that alone should ban him from any other CBF.....EVER

Now what if they decided to come all outta left field and again and bust out Hayden Christensen? :o

while, we're hitting pop culture quotes, at the height of there popularity
