In order to introduce GL to the general audience, it's probably a lot better to have one main character that serves as the audiences bridge to that world....and Kyle Rayner is not that bridge....Hal Jordan is

amen.

Once again: God, I really want to punch this kid in the face.
:huh::huh::huh:

are you saying this based on the pic, or are you familiar with his work...

I just don't get it

not that I am saying he is the best suggestion, or anything, it was just a random unknown name

but, still, that seem like a pretty odd, respones

Why?

Again, why?

In terms of story-telling, especially with the amount of exposition needed for GL, audiences need that connection into the story...someone to relate to that is learning all these elements as the audience is.....and I think it's a lot easier to have one character to focus on....

No disrespect to Alan Scott, but Alan Scott may have knocked up Green Lantern, but Hal married her.....He, among most, is the character most associated with GL....my personal preferences are Hal, John Stewart, Guy Gardener, Kilowog, Kyle Rayner.....

I am saying it based on the fact that the guy's face begs to be punched by a man with a large fist.

There will be blood...from the nose.

If Will Smith can do a film like Hancock, then actors better damn well be interested in a sci-fi epic like the GL film.

I think my two favorites for the role now are Duhamel and Hartnett. After re reading Secret Origins, I can visually see one of those two actors as Hal along with imagining them saying Hals dialogue.

well it's Will Smith...his name alone gets people in the door, regardless of the film in most cases....

Obviously. This, though, does not preclude having two lead characters.

and I think it's a lot easier to have one character to focus on....
Yes, that's what your first post said, and I asked why. Repeating your claim doesn't answer my question.

I'm not sure if this is directed at me. I didn't say anything about Alan Scott.

Kyle > Hal

Yeah, I said it.

Personally, I agree. I like Hal too, but Kyle is my preference. I'd really like a Green Lantern: Torchbearer ongoing series. Then I could be buying three Green Lantern books. That's just awesome all over.

I mention Alan Scott because he was the first to bear the title of Green Lantern....I started reading GL when Hal was the guy and did not even know of Alan Scott until the mid nineties....

the only places I see any kind of regard for Kyle Rayner are here and when I go to Cons...most fans and people I know who are aware of Green Lantern associate with Hal Jordan....

I never took to Kyle Rayner...I hated the GL outfit they put him in....I saw his as the ESPN 2 (The Deuce, early days of ESPN2) of GLs..I've grown to like him, but he isn't the GL that got me into comics...

Green Lantern was the first comic I remember reading as a child, so the character has a special place in my heart and mind

Right. Hal is the face of GL. He was GL longest, everything iconic about GL was introduced with him. You don't need to be aware of Alan Scott in order to get Hal's story. In order to tell Kyle's (and the other GLs) story you have to know who Hal is, so it's best to start with Hal. Hal's story is the most streamlined and is the starting point for the contemporary GL stories. Hal has, IMO, the best story and is the most adaptable to alternate media solo projects. Give him good characterization and you got a movie. This argument sounds familiar.... :whatever:

Who you like and dislike is your business, and if you want Hal to lead because you like him best, that's a good enough reason. I've only disagreed with your assertion that the format requires it.

Nonsense: all you need to know is that somebody nuked the GLC and Kyle's the last one. This is sort of like saying that Darth Vader's story had to be told before Luke Skywalker's.

so it's best to start with Hal.
Nobody said anything about not starting with Hal.

Not that the format requires it, but I think it's easier for the audience to digest....I don't think Star Wars would have worked as well if you had Luke Skywalker and his cousin Jimmy along for the ride

I disagree. Hal is integral to Kyle's story. Just like Abin Sur is integral to Hal's story.

To do a GL movie with only Kyle's story is like making a Superman movie about Conner. Or a Batman movie about Azrael.

:gl: :gl: :gl:

That's not what I meant. Someone said you have to tell Hal Jordan's story before Kyle's, which is nonsense. We don't need a movie about Abin Sur before we see a movie about Hal Jordan, and the same is true of Kyle. There would be no technical failure in having the first Green Lantern movie be about Kyle. The only offense would be that lots of people want a Hal Jordan movie instead, but that's no comment on the quality or workability of the concept.

But that's not what I want, anyway.

You keep saying this, but you still haven't explained to me why you think this is the case. Why does another leading character make anything harder to digest? That would seem a symptom of crappy writing, not the presence of another character.

I would go for a mention of Kyle Rayner in the first film, but not a character until the second....if any of that happens...I'm still skeptical about the film being made period

Since they can't find a decent white dude to portray Kyle or Hal, just go with Stewart then. :oldrazz:

The character of John Stewart is loosely based off the exploits of Henry Simmons.

Hmmm. Good point. It's not the same as the Flash or Captain America or Batman thing I suppose, with the whole "protege" thing. But doing the film without Hal is like doing a Hal film without Abin Sur. And Kyle being the last GL would definitely have more weight to it if we were aware of the other GLs, including and especially Hal beforehand.

Nobody said anything about not starting with Hal.

Right. I don't see why Kyle needs to be mentioned in the first film tho.
