That's too bad. He would have made an excellent Cyclops. The films should have been less about Wolverine and more along the lines of ensemble films. It seems criminal to me that Rogue played a bigger part than Cyclops in every single film. Hell, Nightcrawler played a bigger part in X2 than Cyclops did in all three films combined. Cyclops is way too awesome to be marginalized like that.

Sadly, you're not wrong.

I get the whole 'use of a character as a means to introduce the world to the audience' thing but, as you say, there was too much emphasis on certain characters and waaaaaaay to little on others.

I can buy a 37 year old guy all made up for the "origin" scenes and then looking 30 something for the rest of the flick. Acting ranges are wide at those ages.

Nathan Fillion could make this movie an instant product. And good to boot.

indeed, but then he said something about not being interested (or aware) about GL's story. a shame really.

Yeah, sadly he officially confirmed he isn't interested in Green Lantern.

I'm glad Gosling turned down GL though. Gosling is a great actor but he's 100% wrong for Hal Jordan.

Currently some of my top choices for Hal are:

Sam Worthington (Terminator 4)

Josh Brolin (Since he's likely off the Jonah Hex project)

Jim Caviezel

Anyone got any other suggestions?

i originally posted somewhere here or in the other GL thread that Caviezel would be great as Hal Jordan. he could play the role from the rookie days all the way to post-Parallax. he's excellent and fits the role like a glove.

oh and i just realized that Josh Brolin would make an excellent Ares.

I don't really think they have to stick to this late 20's early 30's thing and I'm thinking with gosling and affleck turning it down they wont.

well there is alot more young talented actors out there in the age ranges they are looking for. but yea if they cant find someone in the young age maybe they would alter t he script to make hal a bit older, but starting out younger is a bit better way to go so they can have a nice young actor around and we get to see him grow and change over time.

For better or worse, I can sorta see them going with Josh Hartnett.

He's not one of my top choices, but I could accept him.

The more I think about, Hartnett seems like a very logical choice among the field of 20-30 something actors out there. Of course Gosling is a great actor but Hartnett would be much more suited to playing Hal. Big name to carry the film, its his type of role. Recall a few years back I think he was in the running for Bryan Singer's Superman. Not that it has anything to do with it, but I saw a picture of him at The Dark Knight premiere, so he's probably more interested in superheroes than Gosling.

Yea i could see hartnett, he is a pretty decent young actor and in the age range they are looking for in the film. I wouldnt diss the film if he was picked. Bearing on trailers and buzz on the film that is.

Possibilities:

Leonardo DiCaprio- more reasonable for Hal than Cap, age range compared to Casey Affleck, proven talent and fame, have a hard time seeing him accepting the role. Plus I think he would be good as Hal, but not GREAT as Hal.

James Franco- I would group with Gosling and Affleck as he is just coming into his own skin. I think he would be a really great Hal

Emile Hirsch- I would group him with Gosling and Affleck as under-recognized but consistent performer, but he is far too young.

Jeffrey Donovan- Older than the age range but could certainly be a really good Hal, but a better Question. Hes an up and comer though who I think will be getting bigger over the next couple years (except Changeling didnt make the splash anyone expected it to be)

Chris Pine- Based on his filmography, Id say he'd make a better Kyle, but with him playing Capt. Kirk I could definitely see him step into the shoes of Hal as well.

John Duhamel- I like him. Hes nothing super-special

Im sure theres others but nothing off the top of my head

i would totally be down with franco great young actor and loved him in the spidey films. I would love to see him get his own hero to be his own.

Hartnett was considered as Superman in both Petersen's "Batman vs Superman" and Brett Ratner's version. He didn't want to commit for more than a movie.
What do you think of Prince Caspian a.k.a. Ben Barnes?
He's likable and he has a very good singing voice...

^ Umm, I haven't read the script, but Hal Jordan doesn't do any singing in it, does he? If so, I just stopped caring who they cast.

In the version of the script I read there's no singing, but wouldn't it be fun a scene like this with all the Green Lanterns?

Decent for Kyle Rayner, but very wrong for Hal Jordan.

By the time we finally get Deathstroke in a DC film, Zac Efron will be old enough to play him -_-

He might not be as much of a long-shot as you think. I remember hearing he's a big time comic book fanboy (albeit Marvel, not DC), so the role might pique his interest. However, WB seem to be pursuing the likes of Gosling and Affleck, who are more rising stars than outright A-list headliners like DiCaprio is. I couldn't see WB going for someone of Gosling's fame-level first, THEN falling back on DiCaprio as a back-up.

Not that I'd complain if he WAS cast, mind you. He's an excellent actor.

Look at the wiki picture of Casey Affleck. He looks like he could be Hal or Kyle in that one.

I've seen most of the stuff he's been in, so I would like to officially put my support towards Affleck if he is considered.

I would have been all for Casey Affleck for Hal Jordan, terry. However, if reports are to be believed, after Gosling passed, Affleck was second choice, and he too passed on the role. :(

Agreed.

His stellar work on Burn Notice deserves recognition in the form of his own comicbook role.

Same with MCH.
