Well yeah, I can't argue there. It's like a day and night difference between the novel.

I guess it's just one of those love it/hate it films.

I was disappointed in this film. I thought will smith did a great job acting wise. But just the way the film turned out and the ending could of been so much better.

There were some things I did like about the film.
Robert entering into the abandoned building looking for Sam, the death of his dog, Roberts slow decline into insanity due to no human contact and isolation, and his suicide attempt were nice homages to the book.

exactly...i loved everything up until the last 5 minutes. the ending felt forced, rushed, and empty imo.

i gave it a 7... i was okay. worth seeing for smith's performance alone, really.

the cgi dark seekers were damn near laughable in most every shot, too. i see no good reason that they couldn't have been people in suits.

seems as if that everyone who read the book (I included) were dissapointed, but those who didn't liked it.

I've read the book twice. I still loved the movie for what it was. Yeah it was different, with a lot of changes, but that was part of the reason why I liked it.

Different strokes I guess.

Anyway....for those wondering where all the money went into making the movie....Did you NOT notice they closed off Times Square and other areas of NYC to make this. That alone must have cost millions to shut down a area like that.

Really? It cost 110million to shut down a couple of blocks of NYC? It didn't cost Bay anything remotely close to that much money when Transformers was filmed in Los Angeles. I'm still wondering where the budget went because I don't buy this explanation for one second.

this movie had a tough act to follow with that amazing lineup of trailers (TDK, IR, 10,000 BC, Jumper, Prince Caspian) but I liked it a lot. Will Smith worked the role and had some really touching moments. And the visuals of an empty New York really worked. But man, that product placement was worse than episodes of Smallville.

I disagree. I read the book long ago, and I like the film a lot. The changes to the ending were suprising, however nessessary when you consider Neville's character was much different, he was trying to save the infected, not exterminate them.

The changes to the infected, making them more of a super-zombie animal than a traditional vampire, was at first a bit annoying to me, but as the film progressed I realized it worked really well. It added a real sense of danger to the story which was missing from the book.

I greatly enjoyed both the book and film, they both work for what they are.

I read the book and loved it. I definitly think they should have been more faithful to it. The one thing I was looking foward to was seeing Ben Cortman saying "Neville" outside his house. Also I really wish they had had the part where he burned down the houses next to him. That was really smart of Neville. I wish they had gone more detail about the virus for instance in the book it explains the crosses thing which was awesome and the garlic and all that stuff. Def. should have included that stuff.

Well for one in the film the infected were not vampires, as they were in the book. Also in the film he was hiding, not like in the book where he was just holed up in his home with the infected congrigating outside every night yelling at him.

I loved it. I usually balk at remakes (or remakes of remakes :word: ), and i usually HATE deviations from the original novels, but i really enjoyed this movie. Maybe it was Will's acting, i dont know, but my family and i had a good time, so mission acomplished...

The way the movie did the story defeats the purpose of calling it I AM LEGEND.

Instead they gave it the Omega Man ending.

Matheson hasn't liked a single film version made of his book yet. I hope one day they make one he would be proud of.

Unfortunately they filmed the ending like, two or three weeks ago because the studio didn't like the original ending they filmed during filming eary this year.

So, yeah, it's tacked-on. It was filmed more than a half year after the rest of the film was.

That's funny though because from what I've heard, he gave this film his "blessing" so to speak.

Hopefully they can give the option on DVD to watch it with the original ending. My guess is, if a bunch of no talent studio big wigs didn't like the ending I most likely will.

His recent story in EW says nothing of the sort. And I'm not sure why that would be true since all this movie is, at the end of the day is a big budget update of Omega Man than a more faithful version of his book.

Oh and the "Oscar worthy" performance from Smith.

With the way they did the movie, I'm not sure how the original ending can be much better considering they jettisoned a ridiculously key element from the book.

I guess the few people who stated that were full of it then lol. If anybody reads this and can fully prove/disprove it go ahead.

Yeah, it was too similar to Omega Man except for the infected not having much consciousness and not being able to talk. I did enjoy it up until that dumb lady and the kid appeared. I for some reason can't stand that, I wanted the movie to be completely about him and his struggle with his sanity.

that pisses me off. i hate when studios interfere with artistic creativity. i guess Warner Brothers is forgetting the lesson B&R taught them. hopefully those @$$holes will keep their stupid ideas to themselves regarding Nolan's Batman series.

Considering how much this flick made over the weekend, the lesson was "keep doing it."

You even had the fancy car racing down the empty city streets just like Omega Man.

If this movie was really bold. Neville would not be a military scientist.
