I'm thinking of buying this today...

How does it compare with other Will Smith Blockbusters?

Or better yet, compared to I, Robot...which was the first Will Smith sci-fi film to underwhelm me...

It's better, but not by much. They are both underwhelming. Smith however is much better in 'Legend' than in 'Robot'. He seemed to be uninterested in I, Robot. Just going through the motions. I am a huge Will Smith fan, but he didn't seem to be doing anything but reading lines in Robot. They are both terrible interpretations of the source material.

For me, at least 'Legend' was good until the kid and woman arrived.

I'm probably gonna pick it up tomorrow. can't wait! One of my all time favorites. Of course I've greatly enjoyed pretty much all his work.

the special features can be only accessed through the computer.

It amazes me how many high-profile blockbuster movies come out on DVD without a lick of special features. Funny I, Robot was brought up, 'cause I refused to buy the film when it first came out on DVD, 'cause I know there'd be a better version later. And sure eough, one eventually came out. I know it's all a racket, though. Now it's all about boosting Blu-Ray sales. If you want any special features period, you're gonna have to switch over, buddies! That's the new game in town.

^You can see the alternate version on line and IMO is even lamer than the original ending.

I got the DVD on Tuesday. The first time I skipped the trailers, which was a BIG mistake. Second time watching I let the trailers play and seen The Dark Knight. Awesome, that was.

The film all in all is pretty good. 7.5/10 from me. I just didn't like the ending.

why didn't Robert just throw the grenade? thats what really bothers me

I really liked it. i was very entertained and I thought the ending was good. I dont get the whole butterfly thing tho

3.5/5

Sorry, i have to disagree. The alternative ending is sooooooooooooooo much better. It's better because it makes sense. The whole movie was leading to the fact the Will Smith is in fact kidnapping these dark seekers and killing them while experimenting on them. and showing that these dark seekers has feelings and a brain god damn it. The movie had scenes of hinting the fact that these zombies have a mind, as soon as you see the leader react to Will Smith capturing the female zombie

I DOUBT GOD TOLD HIM TO KILL HIMSELF

What exactly was the alternate ending?

Instead of killing himself with a grenade, Robert gives up the alpha female to the alpha male, and you get a much better understanding of the feelings the Darkseekers have. Robert lives, but he, Anna, and Ethan don't find any survivors, and nothing is cured. You're left with just the hope that they'll find others.

While I think Robert should've died at the end, I don't prefer the grenade ending. I didn't think that made much sense. While both endings are a bit flawed, I preferred the alternate cut a lot more.

Sums up how I feel. The original ending sucked. The only redeeming fact was that he died, just like in the book (a different manner of course). The original ending was such a cop out. "oh look, a lovely safe zone in Vermont. Yay, happy ending." The alt one shows that the "zombies" still had human emotions. In the book there were 2 kinds, the kind that were purely animalistic, and a more human kind. I'm glad the alt ending shows that they have emotions, because it's demonstrated through out the movie. The alt ending makes more sense and at least leaves the ending open ended. You don't know if the safe zone actually exists or not, just that they're heading there. Btw, they really needed to remove the whole god aspect, that was horrible.

Screw this movie.
The more I think about it, the more I hate it.
I liked it the first time. The second time....not so much.
The only good things, IMO, are Will's acting and Sam (cause she's so darn cute).
Everything else can kiss my ass.

I picked up the single disc today and plan on watching it sometime during my spring break...

I was planning on getting the 2-disc but the other disc is basically the movie again--with the alternate ending...

An extra 10 bucks for 4 minutes of footage?! No thanks.

That's what youtubes for. :cwink:

Can someone explain the bathtub scene to me?

In the beginning of the movie, Robert is sleeping with Sam in the bathtub, with sounds of the Darkseekers keeping him awake. I thought they didn't know where he lived. And since he's home, is there any reason he's sleeping in the tub? Because he wakes up in his bed the next morning (assuming that's the next morning).

well they don't know where he lives but you can still hear them, and i think he was only in there for a while( in the bathtub ), then he probably went to sleep in his bed
